credit washington for making half time adjustments for playing against the triangle. Once the triangle was damaged, the knicks reverted into bad habits from the past (3pt shooting, long 2 shooting, isolations, forced shots). Once Jose comes back, this wont happen as much. plus by then, the players will know more about the triangle
1. the first option is to feed the post and have two players cut off of him (therefore Isolating the post player).
- problem is if dalmebert or aldrich is your post player, then you cant respect the post
- also if a decent post player like Stat is in the post, but sammie is on the weakside, teams can double down cuz they dont respect aldrich, acy, dalembert, larkin, prigoni or shumpert's shot (this is why shumpert was open to hit 3s)
2. another option is the pinch post entry to get things going on the weakside. One main purpose of the triangle is to overload one side in order to have a two man game on the wide open weak side.
- since the knicks have many non-offensive players (as mentioned above), the wizards were able to sag and cut off the pinch post option
- the knicks were basically forced to play one side of the court. this made them nervous and they started reverting to bad habits. once they learn to adjust (such as dribble handoffs to the weakside), they wont panic
thoughts?
Wall Gave the Knicks credit for setting the pace abs executingin the first half. Their plan was to speed up the game and increase the intensity on defense. That spooked the Knicks and they never recovered.
They can't let teams get them off their game. They didn't have to stop what they were doing in the first half. Once they learn to just trust the system and each other they will be fine. The Knicks were killing the wizards in the first half.

And killing them with the second unit too. Just spacing and ball movement. Once they were pressured out of that, it looked like last years Knicks and it didn't help that Melo was having an off night. The triangle works, it is clear as day that it is providing MUCH better shots and it allows all players to flourish. When we can master that I think we will beat predictions.
Even Boomer and Carlton could spot the dribble-dribble-dribble-take-bad-shot iso offense in that miserable 3rd quarter and then more of the same in the 4th.
I hate when even non-basketball talking head hockey idiots can coach the Knicks.
The pressure won't work against a confident and capable guard who takes advantage of the overplay by driving past a defender playing too close. Larkin needs to learn not to panic or lose aggressiveness when pressured. Shump wasn't spooked. JR n Melo fell back into jacking bad shots.
It's adjustment time for this team. Fish will give them a plan for how to deal with ball pressure more effectively.
This is what it's all about. Teams will scout what you do and try to take away what you want to do. It's up to the Knicks to make the needed adjustment to this strategy.
The knicks run a lazy triangle, Shaq broke it down to perfection the other day when we played the the BULLs, Rick Fox also broke it down and had similar feed back.
The guards are not cutting hard enough, and there just overall slow to read and react when they pass the ball.
The worst part about our offense is that we don't have any one that consistently takes it to the hole except amare, and all i keep hearing is why doesn't amare kick it out to a jump shooter.

lmao so true....
but on the lazy trianlge.. its a new offense. Looking sluggish or lazy is most likely because guys just arent 100% comfortable yet. You have to give it 15-20 games I think. Thats about 6 weeks or so of NBA games. Obviously its a work in progress

You realize the Triangle has been time tested thru I believe 11 championships. It survived the brutal defensive wars with the Pistons/Knicks in the 90s and it survived in LA. Yes we may need some more great players but bottom line there are options for dealing with pressure in this offense (just like any other offense) and we just need our players to execute and take advantage when the defense tries to take the initial offense away.
Just need to find the right players to run the offense -- we don't have enough of them just yet. Some can be studs and some can be role players but right now we have the likes of JR/STAT/DALLY running this offense and it will grind to a halt on occasion.
Basically what LivingLegend said...
I don't know about the Triangle but the Smith "brothers" are playing a mean pick and roll game.

no clue why they didnt go back to that more.

aside from going back to that (which was great), why can't some of our other players run the same plays?

maybe they can... I mean give them (and Fisher) some time. I have to assume they just havent covered it all yet.
It takes years of team training and players selection to install and run this kind of system.
And NY fans want this to happen overnight... pathetic fan base.

the system can be a work in progress.
making sure you don't jack up stupid selfish shots should be accountable from day 1.

Note to Shump/Larkin tonight: please know what JR apparently knows about Jason.

Jax won a championship his first year as the Lakers coach and the Bulls won in his second season as their coach. The talent on both of those teams was much better than what the Knicks have but implementation of the triangle seemed to help them become more successful quickly.
Some may think the Knick's are trying to run Triangles
But
They are running squares instead
