Knicks · Gamethread: Pistons tonight! (page 22)

good to know the knicks n carmelo get u to this point where u have to spew against him daily on the forum to the point of calling him a soulless human being. u live a charmed existence lol

Fisher needs to sit with Melo during film review and show him how easy his assits came when he stopped forcing up jumpers. The knicks must work through these growing pains of running the triangle when pressured. They need to stop stopping at the weak side pnr and reverse the ball to form the triangle again. It is a process though. Friday and Saturday will show me what they are about.
Agree. Bad night. They should never have even been in the game at the end. Melo's body language was really bad tonight in addition to his play.
Even if he is off and out of sync,
even if he does regress all the time,
even if he has trouble grasping new concepts,
it is practically a sin for Melo to be moping at this point. I cannot tolerate it at all. 5 games into a bloody ridiculous contract and he should be a beacon of positivity regardless of how his individual game is going.
I can't hide my disdain for this guy. He's not a champion. He's just a damn shooter and when his shot isn't falling he hangs his head. Inexcusable.

Since it matters so damn much to you to respect the intrinsic divinity of every living thing, then we can just call him a money grubbing whore and leave it at that.

OK, you're a defender of Christian theology + you're all about the bling, because ya know a man gotta put food on the table for his family dawg. You're typical then of the weak street philosophy that says "Never begrudge a brother for maxing out" because that is what you desire so much for yourself. You admire wealth. Oh, and the Lord.

He thinks he's underrated though...lol..... for a superstar
Hate to break it to you but good players have bad games. Melo was abysmal in every way the past two games. The two games before that he played great. Happens all the time with every player. And as much as Melo gets paid, he generates more money than he earns.

Not like anyone of us can say anything new ultimately, but patterns are observable and are the basis for formulating some of the more acid opinions of Melo.
He is definitely overpaid because he has one primary function and if he is not functioning, then he is kind of useless.
This is the pattern that myself and others probably find concerning:
Melo playing well in the context of overall team execution can be efficient. Like you say, he was mostly crisp and productive in the two victories. But if the pattern continually emerges that Melo compounds team dysfunction by reverting to hero ball, he is merely a scoring cog in the machine, not the actuator so to speak.
Melo never solves anything at all. He is merely the juice that gets you over the top. This is why Chicago was the perfect situation for him. But he took the big money. I'm not actually blaming him for getting paid, but I'm fukking sick of his phoney BS that occupies all that FA courting dance routine he so desperately claimed was important for him to experience.
He's such a prima donna and a selfish guy, so please spare us the fake "I'm all about the team" crap. That's why the I'm an underrated Superstar, oh but I don't really care about that comments are so unreal. This guy is a fukking moron. He really is kind of stupid. He is nothing close to a superstar. He's a one trick pony in a world that valorizes shooters, thus he gets to command the big bucks. It's such a joke.
We can debate all day long about his value, but if you're paying him this much he should be a player you can build around. You can't with this guy. He is a very expensive piece, not the core.
Resigning him for what we're paying him was just dumb. Hence my numbers breaking down the gross amount of money these guys are paid, often for just one skill. He is just not that good a player outside of shooting. In fact, he is either average or below average in most other categories. And his rebounding is OK, but it is always boosted by him following his shots, so it is not a statistic you can base anything on with him.
We overpaid him and now we'll try to build a team around him with the rest of the salary cap. Good luck with that.

He's not overpaid because he generates more money for the league and the Knicks than he earns. Sure I wish he wasn't clogging up as much cap, and yeah the way he plays sometimes annoys the crap out of me, but at the end of the day you realise we're not getting Lebron, or CP3, or Durant- we didn't have the pick of any star, most stars stay with their teams- heck we don't even have our pick of the second their of players.
When people blast the Melo signing, they act like we could have any player of our dreams. The reality is he's the best player we could get- its hard to get a top pick due to the lottery system (we don't even have our own pick in 2016), its hard to draft a player who will turn into a superstar. Most free agents don't make it to free agency. Have you looked at some of the contracts this offseason? Now even guys like Gordon Hayward are getting maxed out.

The first part about NBA economics justifying what players get paid, yeah well I could care less.
But as far as rebuilding, sure the FA market has been and maybe will remain sketchy in the short term, but I'm one of the people who'd rather bleed for a few years and take my chances building a team from scratch. I could understand signing Melo again talent wise, but the max contracts for players who are just not that special maybe blows my virginal mind. I just can't wrap my head around it. I guess I'm not cut out for modern culture if this is what is called paying people what they're worth. It feels shameful and stupid to me.
Plus, Melo is a dick, but I can live with that if the guy was a leader and who didn't pout about his daily ups and downs and showed real grit. He usually does show up to play, but he is so lacking in adaptability that if it is not a typical Melo night he tunes out and I really hate that about his game. I cannot believe that he is considered a centerpiece to a franchise with the kind of attitude and mindset he has. It is not admirable at all.

Though Houston and L.A. made noise about paying Melo as big a wage as they could, the outcome remains the same. The Knicks always pay the most and often give out the longest contracts. There are other maxed out players in the league, but commentators like to say how elite Melo is, but we'll never really know how much he really would be worth to other clubs.
We paid him too much and if Dolan and I assume Phil had a real spine they would have said $100M or nothing. That is still a gross overpayment of a one-dimensional player, so I'd probably still laugh at such a sum. I've come to the conclusion Phil is as much a hustler as anyone. He really wanted that massive paycheck and if it meant he had to say yes to Melo, he wasn't going to risk losing him, thus in the end Jax paid up.

I never call for Nix to be ignored by other posters
Or for him to be banned because he has a low opinion of
A certain player, at the same time I see the point you're getting at
I think with Nix it's a matter of balance, not that he can't or shouldn't
Be the most optimistic fan on the site, heck someone has to
Or will be this guy, it's the uneven analysis of us vs them I take issue with
Hence the Raptors peaking and don't have upside future type of talk
Or we're a 50win team based on what we did 2yrs ago and not in comparison
With where the league is at 2yrs removed from it
And asking someone to be objective isn't a TOS violation

i am not a christian at all. you and dk7 are both mistaken in the direction of your frustrations. melo doesn't own the team. dolan does. if i was or you were in melo's place, you would have done the same thing... requested a max deal.
it's dolan that paid him that money with phil's influence. point your frustrations at them. at the end of the day, melo is just a player. Knicks didn't HAVE TO pay him that kind of money.

There's a difference between criticising him when he plays like crap, and continuously pushing that he's evil and soulless etc etc- that's the bit which I find creepy. At the end of the day he's just a basketball player who sometimes plays annoyingly.

fair point.
However, it goes both ways, for the apologists as well.

That hasn't been going on in this thread either.
And finding it odd when someone says that an NBA player they've never met has no soul isn't a TOS violation either.
