I for one don't much like the Melo hate being spewed, he needs help to get through this tough time he is having. I have no doubt a hot streak awaits him. But to grasp the system fully he must learn the system and to really do that he must play some point guard. I have come to the conclusion and at peace with the fact that this is a throw away year, what's another throw away year in the life of a Knick fan.
Yes, Melo should play point guard. Something MDA tried to instill in him but fought hard. This time he isn't going to run coach out of town. Fish the only way he is going to understand the system and implement the system is from the Point Guard position. Ride him hard at PG no matter what the results.
Gotta disagree. So abort the triangle?
I thought Shumpert did ok on the offensive end but one of the problems last night is we just didn't have speed at PG. We didn't capitalize on countless nets turnovers.
Melo is too slow for SF Nevermind PG
Melo creating his own shots as the PG goes against everything the triangle is about

How about he figures out how to move off the ball before he is given the duty of telling others where to go?
The Knicks are working with a player who doesn't get it. Make him realize his mistakes by actually seeing what he isn't doing. No better position to see and understand the functionality of a system than PG. You must remember all losses as of now are blessing in disguise.
This team isn't going anywhere so I'm not that disappointed in the losses. Acceptance to reality and getting Melo ready for next year and the next well essentially every year that the organization is stuck with him.

I realize you're trying to think outside the box, but this is not how you educate Melo. Your idea of instruction by experiment would just shake his confidence even further. Toney Douglas was actually a source of points off the bench. He had more than a few nights where he put up 20+ points. He was a decent extra SG to have around. Making him PG ruined him. Sorry, bad idea.

This experiment doesn't have to last the whole year, do it in spurts until he gets it. Once that is done send him back to his whatever position he plays. It's a very good idea it will work 100% guaranteed.

he balked with dantoni on point fwd duties --> he is having trouble dealing with the triangle --> so try another major change with a bunch of other guys trying to learn what to do?

Why cater to other players? Most won't be on the team anyways. But $124 million man will be. Forget winning for this year. Get Melo learning the triangle from every angle.
its it enough hes seemingly having probs with his current position, why add even more for the guy to figure out? is he the guy who will elevate with more added roles to learn when he seems like he isnt keeping up with what he has now? maybe once things start to turn (or if they do), point fwd might be interesting to see if he can now handle for limited stretches.
not convinced hes the player to overload with more changes/responsibilities. not worried about winning now, didnt think this team was going to be good.

"Carmelo Anthony, Basketball Player, a man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him,
we have the technology,
we have the capability to build the world's first triangular man.
Carmelo Anthony will be that man.
We can make him better than he was before;
better, stronger, faster, triangular."
My opinion... the solution is we need a PG who is not turnover prone and knows WHEN to find Melo... not force the issue. Calderon is not error prone on offense and he can make timely 3s when needed. Prigioni could do that too, albeit slower and timider.
I think Calderon coming to the lineup will help steady the offense, Fisher just doesn't want to shake his team's confidence by saying oh yeah we need him bad.
Larkin and Shumpert are both turnover prone on offense and not QUICK decision makers when trying to play PG. The best play for Shumpert at PG is the dribble pull-up jumper for himself that he's been consistent with.
Calderon could help the team out there. But he's a liability on defense, but yeah so was Shumpert last night right?
Was Fisher worried that starting Larkin against Deron would shake Larkin's confidence? That Deron would go off for 50 points?
Deron might have done all that, but he'd still have to play defense himself against a faster Larkin. With Shumpert at point, Fisher played safe. Let me try to put my best defender on Deron and see what happens. Deron himself didn't have to work on defense at all. At no point did we present mismatches to the Nets because we never blew by their guards.
I think Fisher is not giving Larkin enough credit after he covered his face with his hands with the crucial turnover a few nights ago.
Allow the kid to be baptized by fire. He's only a 2nd year player, it's not going to shake his confidence going against derrick rose, kyrie irving, kemba walker, john wall, brandon jennings, deron williams.
We've got at least 2 people in that group that have been MVP or in MVP talks, 2 more in all-star considerations.
This should fuel Larkin's fire further, not diminish it. He comes from a background that knows a thing or 2 about professional sports. Give him a chance to grow instead of holding him back.

Shumpert had 1 turnover last night. Look at his game log. Very few turnovers this season.
Solutions are not needed after 6 games. Just need to get healthy and play this thing out.

Well the results from last night weren't great. Shump isn't a point guard. He stepped up and played last night because the guys that play the position are all hurt. Hopefully the starting backcourt tonight is Larkin and Shump. Have JR play the point for the second unit.
It's going to have to be Larkin guarding Teague
gunsnewing wrote:It's going to have to be Larkin guarding Teague
He should be given a shot. He certainly can't guard Korver.
I really wish we could acquire
Al Jefferson and Jimmy Butler
That would be my dream offseason
Farfetched as all get out though
Trade Shumpert for Tyler Innis and a 2nd rounder

No I mean alarming should start so he can guard Teague
Though it would be interesting to let Shumpert have a chance at redeeming himself guarding Teague with just a little help this time. Maybe they go over things with Shump in walk throughs
Interesting take you are describing MDA offense. Keep the other team on its heel, move the ball find the energy players.
