All I heard in the first half was how many times Melo's D stopped Milsap.

I don't care about the Melo bashing.....Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, regardless if it's on or off base.

But what does the title (Watermelon) have to do with Melo's play?

Nothing. OP already showed they are clueless about the implications.

Mater-MELO-n = too cool Melo. I did not use the word watermelon with racist intent. As a black man, I am not that sensitive with the use of the word. If some of you are offended, I apologize.

In my opinion, Melo is way too cool as a star. Too cool on offense and too cool on defense. Until he changes his COOL demeanor, he will never be viewed as one of the greats. Jackson's recent criticism of him corroborate my assertion.

So let's have Melo observations made by the clueless, especially after he toyed with getting a triple double. Priceless.
Oh, but Phil said Melo's approach to the game is poor, and Fisher doesn't have the gal to tell Melo anything. Got it.

I did not use the word watermelon with malicious intent. I was just disappointed after watching him play, I decided to write this thread to criticize his approach for the game. Some of his fans are so into him, they have failed to realize that this man has to change his game to achieve the ULTIMATE goal; which is to win a championship. I am so glad that Phil saw exactly what I have always noticed about Melo's game. For way too long he has been allowed to play with that approach, as a result he has never made it past the first round

Melo must evolve for the Knicks to do anything. Like him or not, that's the bottom line.

Another brilliant retort. We who are so blindly into Melofacts salute you.

Maybe you could try a different medium? One that's not so dependent on the use of words.

Too-Mellow-Mater?

Knicks1969 @ 11/11/2014 1:13 PM
We as Carmelo's fans need to change his "nick" name from Melo to Beast; perhaps that could help add some spice to his game. For him to go to the line just 4 times a game is putrid if you ask me.

Knicks1969....I understand your reasoning for the title. thx.

But I disagree with your assessment that Melo needs to change his game. You don't pay someone 100+ million to change his game. You build around him.

Would I have given Melo 100 mil to build around? No...But the knicks and Phil Jackson did.

There's no point in putting too much energy into changing a 13 yr vet. All you can hope for is that he can adapt to a new system and we can find players to surround him.

If he improves great....if he doesn't, oh well.....That's not his main objective when he signed his contract extension. His job is to lead, the way melo knows how to lead.

And for Phil / Fisher to build around him.....period!

Otherwise, they would've never paid him 100 mil just to change. If that's the case, we would've used that money on someone cheaper, and younger with room to change.

Is this a serious question? Have you not seen how I have been berated by SOME for criticizing Melo's low energy at both ends if the court? To be honest, he played a little better last night and I hope the all around output continues. However, the same can't be said for the previous 6 games.

Changing your game and needing to up your energy level are two different things. Unfortunately, both are still hard to change.
Knicks1969 @ 11/11/2014 8:24 PM
No one is asking carMelo to change his game; however, I and others would love to see him be much smarter When he is on the court. When the shots are not falling, we are simply asking that he drives to the basket to get to the foul lines instead of continuing to bail out the opposing team. If you take 10 shots and miss 9 out of 10, you are to know that a different approach is necessary. We kill Hardaway and Smith for taking too many shots, specially when they are striking out, why not get on CarMelo as well? If he is making 50 to 60% of his shots, by all means, please continue to shoot.

Another thing I criticize Carmelo for is his inability to get on guys when they are not doing what they are supposed to do. As a leader, it is his jobs to police the other guys. Part of what he needs to hit that next level is the ability to demand accountability from himself and others.

I love Carmelo and would love for him to succeed in NY. He is a homegrown product, nothing would give me more joy then to see him win a championship

He is actually a leader; not the type that has been proven to win the grand prize, but he is one. Tim Duncan for instance is a silent leader. He hardly shows emotion on the court, but he plays with heart and smarts, which in returns incite the others to follow. He will get on guys when they are not playing up to par, and will be the first to support his team-mates when need be.

Sorry, but you said nothing in this post. You say he is a leader and the proof is because ............ you say he is a leader. Even some of his supporters are reasonable enough to concede the reality Melo is anything but a leader. Just because you want to believe he is doesn't make him one.

Let's see if I can drive my point home. Carmelo is looked upon to lead a team in scoring; that In a nutshell makes him a leader. He may not be the quintessential leader you are accustomed of seeing, but he is one and is being paid as such.

Leading in a statistical category is how you drive the point home that he is a leader?

That is like saying hammerhead sharks are excellent carpenters because of the word "hammer".

At least apply basic logic if you are going to try and back up your assertions.
