Knicks · A good Barkleyism..... (page 1)

Nalod @ 11/16/2014 1:01 PM
At his best on this one.....

TNT commentator Charles Barkley blasted Rose for the comments.

"That was stupid," Barkley said. "Derrick Rose is a great player; he's a great kid. We're so blessed. I limp around, but I go home to a big ol' mansion. There's people who work harder than Derrick Rose who go home to a shack. There are consequences to what we do for a living. We got the best life in the world."

Rose might have just had a bad moment. Stupid comment and offends fans who buy tickets and support the team.

NardDogNation @ 11/16/2014 5:04 PM
I don't think any job is worth your vitality. I can't blame Derrick Rose for thinking about his future. The entire notion of doing so would be hypocritical because then we criticize athletes for going broke, who obviously aren't thinking about the future.
Nalod @ 11/16/2014 7:02 PM
Nothing wrong with thinking about the future, just don't have to speak it.

If Melo did this he'd be blasted. nobody putting a gun to His head and making him play. He can retire a wealthy man and with his health.
For that I would not blame him or be critical of him.

Sorry, we ask for entertainers to give it their all. We ask athletes too. They endorse products and get paid for an image. Rose has had a hell of a time the last two years and I don't really blame him for being cautious. Just don't speak it. This will cost him money and his endorsers will not be happy.

Only Michael Jordan could get away with that statement.

Splat @ 11/16/2014 7:10 PM
If Rose wants to retire, that's fine. If he wants to get paid, that's fine. But sometimes you have to choose. He's set for 50 lifetimes, so he sure doesn't need to play for money. It appears his body is not up to it. His style of play was like Iverson, but he doesn't have Allen's durability. Hang it up and go home then.
gunsnewing @ 11/16/2014 7:10 PM
All he had to do was say they are saving him for the playoffs and the fans would've been accepting. Instead you got the Stupid brain dead comments
Nalod @ 11/16/2014 11:06 PM
all he had to say was "while I played over the summer, This is a much longer season and IM still working my way back. nearly two years is a long time and I owe the fans my best....."

Who pays his salary? Fans!!!

Hope he is not a diva and gets all "Its my money".........

When the "brand" gets so big, I guess after a while a kid can start to believe the commercials he appears in...

Ego can be both a bane and a benefit at this level. The line gets crossed when you stop realizing your insanely profitable traveling business venture is a game that costs you cartilage, bones, blood and pains other folks (fans) will never have to experience. A very delicate media balancing act is required, just as in most other highly visible, public professions.

I pay a fairly steep, stupid (to others) price in physical pain, aggravation and the occasional surgery to keep playing pickup ball at 52 years of age. That's my choice. I love the game.

Getting paid millions wouldn't be too bad of a side benefit.

Nalod @ 11/17/2014 11:25 AM
My wife sold her manufacturing business in part because she didn't want to do it anymore. Too much aggravation. Some people can let it roll off their backs but successful people take it PERSONAL and obsess. She signed a contract to stay on 18 months and for a while it was nice but now they expect her to run it all forgetting why she has sold to begin with. Its physically taking a toll.

I'll miss the income but her sanity and well being is more important. We are currently on an island paradise and she is working on and off 5 of the 7 days we have been here.

Nobody put a gun to her head and made her do it. She can't tell her "boss" she is cooked and can't deal with the aggravation. its the job.

Pro athletes put their bodies at risk for multigenerational wealth beyond most of our comprehension. while I can respect his personal decision to not want to limp, the fact is his profession requires risk.

The guy is mailing it in. I see Little Penny in this kid. Big money, big injuries, not so big desire.

No one can control his own mind.
If somebody think he can this is illusion.
Derek is not a superman or supernatural.
He is just a man who went through hard times and looking at possibility he will not be able to do what he likes to do most in his life.
The fact that he is financially set for live has nothing to do with his state of mind.
Money are pointless when life lost the meaning.
People should understand and forgive.

Your right. But the entertainment business does not put his personal side in front.

Lets keep it more close to home. if Melo said that most would go ballistic. same for most teams "stars".
Its wrong, but its the nature of fans.

The dude was wrong to speak his mind. I have to say Lebron the last few years carrying the heat on his back for many notes impressed the hell out of me. Kobe and Jordan before him. Rose lost respect.

Lebron learned his lesson. Ever since the decision, he just goes about his business and when something new needs to be announced there is no build up until it happens. Much better approach for him and any star player I'd say. It is one reason I never was a Melo fan. He babbles and unwittingly shows how his mind really works and how much he functions from his own self-interest first and foremost. I know what he's like, so I don't really care anymore since we're stuck with him. I would just appreciate him more if he conducted himself with more dignity and was more of a leader. It is what it is.

Count the "I"'s in your sentences, Mr. Selfless.
