in terms of the knicks - they take most of their shots from long 2...which is probably the dumbest thing to do. whereas analytic team darlings houston refuse to take the long 2.

thats correct. long 2's are they worst shots in basketball.

Yeah, but they are chucking the largest percentage of 3 pointers!
Those charts are kind of fun to look at. Interesting to see that the Pelicans are league leaders in taking shots in the 0 to 3 foot range and the majority of their shots are in that range. Can't imagine why that's happening, huh?

I miss the midrange game in basketball, so I hope the Knicks can make it effective again. 3s and drives I find boring.
I don't want to say this is the only reason we're losing but if you reverse the blue lines we probably win more games. The only bigs on NYK who play inside are Amare & Cole. The guards don't get to the line because they don't drive to the basket looking to score. Larkin knows better than to go inside and get his shot swatted, it's almost automatic. JR will do it but he rarely gets those calls.
Dale bricking ft line twos every time he touches the ball
the knicks are extremely hard for me to watch this season even when they're playing well.

Thats would be great if every other was also just taking stupid long 2's and not the higher percentage boring shots.
I think the ratios will change in time. These players have had a lot to process and it's really messed with their heads. They have turned down a lot of open 3's. Jose should help that a little since he's such a good 3pt shooter. The Knicks have run at the slowest pace in the league. I think that will slowly creep up as they get more comfortable. Last year they made 9.3 3pt on 24.9 attempts and this year so far 6.8 makes on 17.4 attempts.
This system doesn't use the PnR or drive and kick as much as other systems. They instead use the post feeds and cuts, but we don't see the Knicks using the cut and slash to the basket as much as they probably could. Part of that is teams are going to allow the Knicks to take the 2's. They will overplay JR when he PnR with Jason. So Jason has to hit his shots. If that is Bargs in the same role he may drive a bit more than Jason since he has that ability. Either way I don't see this team changing completely away from the midrange game. My guess is that they'll simply get more efficient at it.

You post as if our players wear
Bibs and have Pacifiers in their mouths all game
Get real, there's no reason whatsoever to pacify them
While wiping their mouths off because they dribbled milk on their chins
I guess by game 60 they will have worked their way from
Similac-to-Gerber-to-Lunchables therefore we can go Goo-Goo Ga-Ga over them

Why are you even posting if you have nothing to contribute other than a critique on my posting style? How about some substance regarding the point of the thread?
The mid range shot is the least defended shot in the league, the golden rule has always been 'NEVER FOUL A JUMP SHOOTER"
I believe the triangle was invented in the days of no 3 point line, thats why it creates so many wide open mid range jump shots, which is why when jordan came back for his 2nd stint with the bulls, his mid range game was deadly... but you can't fall in love with those shots, it's fools gold.
The knicks have got to take it to the hole, and I think thats whats holding them back (and the rotation), fouling too much, and not getting foul themselves.
That shot chart is disgusting. If this is the plan for the next 5+ years we're even more fucked.

Well it obvious how both teams
Should game plan from each other
If our offense proves to be too much a matrix
We should at least focus on keeping The Bucks out of the paint
Force them to shoot deep 2s, contested and as many 3s as possible//// then maybe
We'll have a better understanding of what not to do
On offense, it's like DK tried to encourage
the 50win crowd in that if 50wins are attainable with this squad
As currently constructed, the defense would have to be light yrs
Ahead of the offense, we want Pacer-Bullike linear-graphed results defensively

Long 2's aren't bad if you are already efficient at shooting threes and near the rim. In playoff basketball, long 2s are often what the defense gives you, as you progressively see better defenses the further you go ( if you can go) in the playoffs.
You can't make long 2's in the playoffs unless you are hitting them in the regular season.
The danger is if you get a specific player who carries so many limitations and tradeoffs, that a long 2 ball is all he has to offer.
Relentlessly bombarding the other team with the three ball is a way to overcome a team that is clearly more talented than you are. Also it helps your floor spacing if you have players that simply don't move well off the ball or don't move well at all.
For example, I don't think a long 2 is a bad thing for LaMarcus Aldridge, who is a pretty good mid range jump shooter. However for a guy like STAT, who offers you so little everywhere else, having an effective three ball would create some solutions for the tradeoffs he presents when he's on the floor.
The long 2 is bad for a team to take
If those aren't the normal shots hit in practice
Or better yet reflected in above average career numbers
From the players on this team, yes if we had L.A. sure why not
Run sets with long 2s or elite level shooters like Curry and Klay
It's pretty apparent we don't have great long 2 shooters of this caliber

Absolutely!
If Milsap can add it to his game then why can't/shouldn't stat?

I think half-court and beyond are worse
the heavily skewed long midrange game the knicks employ is the reason why the team doesn't get to the line. nobody is fouling guys out there b/c you are bailing out their defense by taking such poor % shots.
