So Bargs has now just gone down with a calf strain (so likely out at least another month), on top of the previous hamstring injury, and the half season he missed with the elbow (following the summer where he was way laid with pneumonia, following the season he had the elbow tendon tear with the Raps). So where does the Barg trade rank in terms of Knick stinkers?
We traded two good chemistry guys (Novak and Camby), and more importantly our 2016 first round pick, and our 2014 and 2017 2nd rounders. The 2016 pick was justified at the time as likely being a mid first rounder because the Nuggets had the right to swap. However now the Nuggets stink, and it could be a lottery pick (if we luck out in 2015 free agency and the Nuggets go for a rebuild). In addition the loss of the 1st rounder was likely the reason why we didn't end up with Lowry (Dolan didn't want to give that Raptors GM two first round picks).
Even when he's not injured, he seems to have a negative impact on the team- he's just an awful useless player. That trade is going right up there with the prime time Camby and prime time Amar'e for broken McDyess; the trade for Eisley and Shandon Andersons infinite congrats; the Joakime Noah and LaMarcus Aldridge for Eddy Curry; the Zach Randolph for cap space trade; the Ewing trade for a decade of salary cap hell....
Jesus! We could have spent this past decade watching a front court of Camby and Amar'e (before they broke down), or Joakime Noah and LaMarcus Aldridge, or Zach Randolph! Instead we end up with fools like Eddy Curry and Bargs! Arrgghhh!

trade that dude expiring contract as soon as possible for a couple of draft picks. His presence on the roster is not healthy for our moral nor the moral of our players
People characterized me as being a Debbie Downer and as being ill-informed when I severely criticized the trade early on (as I have the Calderon trade). Now, I'm not sure anyone is willing to disagree with the fact that this was a HORRIBLE trade. That 2016 pick we gave up may very well be a lottery pick! And to add insult to injury, you could argue that Steve Novak is a better player than Bargnani over the past 2 seasons!
A calf strain now? Eddy Curry part 2 without the weight issues.

Without a doubt. Can't wait to turn the page. I can puke knowing we gave up a 1st rounder for this dude. it was a trade that shouldn't have been made. Period. We would've been better off just signing one of the better skilled bigs outta the D-League or somewhere else rather than giving up anything for this guy.
It is amazing that he was injury prone before we got him and that Toronto had been wanting to dump him... We gave up a
NON PROTECTED 1ST and Marcus Camby, Steve Novak, Quentin Richardson (via a sign-and-trade). It is going to be ironic that he is going to walk and another year+ from now we are going to be giving Toronto a non protected first and quite possible not have gotten anything for Bargs in a trade.
If by some act of the Knick Gods we suck 2 drafts from now and Toronto gets a top pick in the draft, that is going to break fans.
This guy ain't cutting it, bad trade so bad
Rank the trade? I just lit myself on fire.
I don't really understand the trade to be honest. With the other disastrous trades, you could at least see what the thinking was (Ewing thought to be too old, Curry thought to be an offensively dominant center). But why did we even want Bargnani? Novak was a better shooter anyway, Toronto were going to waive him...). Just don't get it.
In terms of how far the trade set us back, I don't see it as being in the same league as the Ewing and Curry moves.
Trading Bargnani at this point is addition by subtraction. Let him go and be good elsewhere. He is soft, plays no defense. Like Amare, what he gives on offense, he turns around and give it right back to the opposing team and then some.

...the "purpose" was clear. James Dolan's band (the Dolanettes) needed to open for the Eagles, who were represented by CAA...the same people who represent Bargnani. That was the "purpose" of the trade in a nut shell.
I said from day one this was a unecessay and dumb trade. Toronto was begging any team to take him for nothing and of course the knicks did what they usually do which is to overpay for a injury prone player

You did. I liked the trade at the time. What a dumb bunny I am.
Why wasting brain cells to think about a transaction that already happened? Bottom line is that this dude is deadweight and we née to purge his contract/space eating presence of the roster. Trade him to a stupid team in need of cap space and get a young prospect + picks. We can use the space for a cheaper prospect. We are in the early phase of this new regime, so we can afford to experiment.

nobody is giving us any value for bargs. At this point we have to wait until his contract expires
Sounds like they are waiting for the Dec. 15 marker to move or even release him. He won't play for the Knicks again

Shenanigans I tell ya!

There is no team dumb enough to trade you assets for Bargnani unless it comes with a catch i.e. bad contract(s). But bad contracts on the scale of a Bargnani are becoming a thing of the past IMO. More often than not, you see certain guys get overpaid but they still perform. That to me doesn't meet the criteria of a bad contract e.g. Gerald Wallace.
