Knicks · Do we have even 1 player who can beat guys with the dribble? (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 11/29/2014 11:35 AM
I know NONE of our PGs can.
Vmart @ 11/29/2014 11:54 AM
There is no Kobe or Jordan here Briggs how is this triangle going to work?

JR is capable of taking people off the dribble when not playing like a complete lunatic, but that's about it. Spacing is poor on the team since they can't really shoot from the perimeter so at the same time kinda hard to tell.

JR is not trustable. His interests lie outside of basketball. Problem with guys like JR is they have no fear of failure he doesn't care.

larkin is the only pg who can.

Problem with that is the defense is laying off of him and daring him to shoot the jumper. That is the case for the entire team though.

newyorknewyork @ 11/29/2014 12:25 PM
I don't even think Jr can. He has never shown a consistent ability to do so which is y he relys on the step back jumper.

No doubt, but you gotta have some speed in the lineup and guys who can get into the lane. Calderon and Pablo arent those guys. And if their shot isnt falling they are useless out there.

Larkin can beat guys with the dribble but can he make a play after he beats them? like this.

Larkin doesnt have enough length and power to make up for size.

Before he got hurt, JR had a great spin move to the rim, a nice reverse layup, his footwork seemed better. I don't know if he is just falling back on bad habits or his knee problems robbed him off some of his mobility.

Trade for Stephenson

Lance would not work in this offense right now. His jumper broke once he got to Charlotte. That's not even factoring the rumored character issues. He's playing worse than Shump right now.

Lance's problem is the fact that he is sharing the backcourt with a ball dominant PG...he would be effective in NY because Calderon is not a ball dominant guard. As for the attitude issues, oh well.

The problem is the rookie head coach who is having problems figuring out a set rotation. From the jump, it was evident that JR had issues picking up the triangle, he should have ever been entrusted with the many minutes he has been giving thus far. THJ is THE one SG on the roster who did fairly well during his time in Vegas, he should have been THE one guard playing next to Carmelo to help spread the court.

If defense is the issue, well, none of our guards can defend. For those of you who think Shump is a defender, please tell me who he has EVER prevented from scoring.

thjr is our best transition scorer and can drive to the backet… fisher needs to give him his due minutes hes not any worse defensively then jr and he is smoother on the offense. also atleast he gives 100 percent unlike jr who is the new derick colman if you ask me. as for last night he did a better job on wade in the 4th then shump.. shump got owned by wade in the forth… when thjr was in the game as a team we played better getting the lead down to 2 its…. shump came in and in less then 2 minutes we were down by 10 with 8 of those pts coming from wade… and 2 brick shots by shump one being a wide open 3 that thjr probably would have nailed. thjr is a good team player he knows his role… thjr needs big minutes and jr chucker needs to sit

I find it hard to believe how some around here can view Shump as a defender. Every game I've watched, this dude has gotten owned by whoever he has guarded. Sadly, The only pure defender on our roster is Larkin. Shump does have a big mouth and is always talking tough, but does he really defend anyone? Hell no. Shump is like Amare, talk big, but can't back it up.

isn't this the premise of the triangle - system ball? That the ball can move faster when passed vs. dribbled?

I think the question should be- are any of our players smart enough to play in a system like this?

Maybe none!

Stat defended well last night. I think he is really trying and performing well. HE should start with Cole and Melo. Bring Sam off the bench so he can help ignite some fast breaks with Larkin and Timmy. The team is unbalanced and we are really seeing it now.

But Stat is playing well except for his turnovers, which are unbelievable for a guy with his skill set to not be able to catch or dribble.

Have you watched the same games as we all have? STAT does two things well, scoring the ball and rebound. Defensively, he is null. He doesn't pass the ball to the shooters, which is the reason why most of our gards want to play HERO ball. STAT is a black hole on offense.
