Knicks · what players do you feel are not buying in (page 1)

Phil said something about guys resisting the culture change. You don't lose 9 of you 16 by 5 or less points and think the entire roster is bad, clearly there is few things thats causing us to lose.

1)the lack of Free throw shooting is the first thing that comes to mind...... if we were taking 5 to 8 more FT's thats 5 to 8 more points, we would have won all the close games we lost. In the last 5 games, we have played 6 guards(priggs, THJ, JR, shump, calderone, larkin,) they have a combine total of 6 ft's in all 5 games..that's insane, other then Amare and Melo, no one on the team shoots FT's

2)rotation has been the joke of the league, fish played 13 guys in in 13 minutes in one recent game, none were in foul trouble.

3)The most glaring weakness is the lack of leadership.

The other day i watch brandon jennings dribble all the way to a wide open basket (down 2 with seconds left in the game) and instead of the easy lay up to tie the game, he kick it out to a (27% 3 point shooter) josh smith who proceeded to brick the 3 ball and lost the game. Detroit has guys on their team (monroe) that we want.

So i asked myself, if detroit has a terrible record, why would greg monroe make us better, if he hasn't made detroit better. But if you put greg monroe on the spurs, bulls, GSW, portalnd, he will make them that much better.

My point is, no matter how much talent you have or get, bring him into a losing situation and he becomes a loser of a player.

Melo
Amare(also never passes and also sucks at it)
JR
possibly THJ

shumpert

Phil told him to finish at the rim and he refuses to do it

they shoot a lot of jump shots, thats one factor for low amounts of FTs

not sure what can be done about 2/3. 3 isnt gonna change this season. are you alluding to #3 being the catalyst for changing the losing mentality on the team?

Don't forget phil also distinguished players who don't have the skills to buy in. I'd say he was definitely referring to shump, JR and Dalambert

You remove Amare, Shump, JR, and Jayson Smith off of this team, we will win

franco12 @ 12/9/2014 4:31 PM
I'm not sure any of our players get it.

I think there have been flashes of guys understanding, but too often they are thinking and not doing.

I don't think Melo gets it.

I think our biggest problem is no one understands our defense, unless they are in an opposing uniform- and then they totally get it, and anything they want!

I agree with this. Although for some of those guys I think the issue is more that they can't comprehend what needs to be done rather than "not buying in." Shump and Amare don't really understand the game at all. JR can onoy keep his head screwed on for limited periods of time.

Zen Master is changing the "narrative" in the media. He's thinking three steps ahead in terms of how the media will treat/blame the Knicks losing as much as they will this year.

Blaming the players shifts the focus on the use of the Triangle Offense, which is simply a very difficult offense to implement, even under the most ideal conditions.

I would say the issue is both. 1) The players aren't talented enough and 2) The Triangle Offense is simply a bad fit for what the Knicks are trying to do ( actually trying to compete)

Sadly, and ironically, a strong dose of principles used by Mike D'Antoni would really be the best way to help this current roster. ( i.e. more of an attacking principle, much like what Jeff Hornacek is using with the Suns)

D'anthony's system is the reason why both the Lakers and the Knicks are so terrible. It is going to take both franchises a very long time to turn things around

I would argue that the whole team is buying in: tank
