Look folks, stop kidding yourselves about not adding to the cap due to free agency next season. Phil has to pull the trigger on a couple of players to better the talent level currently on the roster. The Knicks are in dire need for two way players; specifically, at the front court that can rebound the ball. We've lost many games because we are unable to score and stop the opposing teams.
It is imperative we begging to add as many SMART talented players as soon as possible, because that is our only way to attract GREAT top tier talents to WANT to come to NY.
So we need good players to attract good players...

If you want to add good players to a team without any good players, you conscript (draft) them.
Stephenson might be had for an expirer. I'd personally make the move but don't think that we should be looking to win this season. And I'd need Cody Zeller or Bismack Biyombo as insurance for the deal. Neither are anything great but they are prospects that may get better down the road. That seems like a reasonable request with Indiana demanding a first round pick.

This might be one of the buy low trades an organization takes a risk on. The problem is the knicks would need to unload JR and I'm not sure Charlotte would do it. The guy is still rebounding and passing like a champ. If they the Hornets would take an injured JR I would do it for Lance and a second, ideally two one 2015 and one future pick.
We don't have trade assets. You have to accept that there is no short cut. Even if they do things right, it will take several years to get out of this. You should view this summer as the very beginning of the process IMO.

I suppose they want a wing and a 4 to pair with Jefferson. It seems like they want to just get out of the contract. Indy is reportedly requesting a 1st rounder in addition to Lance. Jordan of course does not want to give up a 1st.

Its easy to say tougher to do. Believe me i wish it was like a video game and you can get anybody but this is real life. Look we are gonna get a top draft pick which will help, hardaway is developing nicely, we will have cap space to at least get better talent than this year. As long as we et into the playoffs next year it will be a ood fist step
Our best bet to get a good two-way player is to tank and draft Karl Anthony Towns. Of course, if we had made a better Tyson trade we could have more two-way players or be in a better position to acquire them... not to mention if we had at least attempted to work out a S&T with Melo to Chicago.

Yeah, if we had done a more reasonable Tyson trade and had traded Melo by the deadline last year, we could have many highly valuable long-term assets right now. And we probably wouldn't be worse than .200 anyway!

Trading Melo at the deadline would have produced nothing
Because he was an impending free man[who'd only play for a handful of teams]
Phil definitely should have dumped him this summer to his choice destination Chicago
I don't see the need to make trades. What exactly are you hoping to accomplish win 30-34 games? That's ridiculous that is basically making sure you get less talent in the draft. You know majority of the roster will be overhauled next season why not get a top 3 pick and build around that. FA's will come regardless it's about money 99.9% of the time.
If Phil does make trades he should definitely try and get picks. Keep as much cap space as possible going forward. If no one is offering picks then stand pat take everything into the off season.

I would trade for Stevenson immediately. We may not want to win now to hp secure a high draft pick, but we still need to have talent on the roster to help advance our cause faster. Stephenson can be groomed into the tall POint forward that Phil likes in the triangle. He is a two-way player. One who can be a studs with the proper titullage.

Because we have too many FAs on the roster whom will not be around next season. There is no way they will buy into a system that will hurt their individual play making and reduce their worth. You ever wonder why when the ball gets in Amare's hand he only looks to score? It is because he is working for the next contract. Teams around the league mostly care for guys who can score.
