Knicks · who's the best pure scorer you ever saw in the NBA (page 2)

yellowboy90 @ 12/17/2014 7:09 PM
I wonder why no one hardly ever mentions Barkley on their list of scorers. That guy was something serious. A truly one of a kind talent.
knicks1248 @ 12/17/2014 8:28 PM
I don't think you can answer this question You have pure shooters, like reggie and houston, and you have scorers like mcgrady and jordan, who also rack up 10 to 12 points at the FT line alone.
alwaysaknick @ 12/17/2014 8:36 PM
Best PURE scorer? Melo for sure.
jskinny35 @ 12/18/2014 12:19 AM
Pros - Bernard King, with respect to Jordan, World B Free, Nique, English, McGrady, S.Curry and Gervin

College and NBA Jam - Chris Jackson (later Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf)

Melo is wayyyyyyy down the list of pure scorers historically.

A pure scorer is effortless. Melo labors.

There have been dozens of players who are pure scorers.

Nate Archibald
George Gervin
Pete Maravich
Bernard King

Add a dozen more and Melo still will not be on that list.

gunsnewing @ 12/18/2014 1:49 AM
John Wallace was a pure scorer

Lavor Postell too

gunsnewing @ 12/18/2014 1:50 AM
and how can i forget the great Lee Nailon
mreinman @ 12/18/2014 1:52 AM
Steve Nash
Nalod @ 12/18/2014 8:10 AM
Games played, Melo 814 vs King 876 career. Melo already passed King a by a few spots.

King had intense 4 year knick career where he averaged about 26pts, same for Melo.

What is pure anyway?

When I think "pure scorer" I think Drazen Petrovic

Taking All That into account that's what I mean by pure scorer.

You guys are too technical.....if i just said scorer what would you say? Is not always about stats.

He's definitely in the conversation

Vmart @ 12/18/2014 11:38 AM
To me a pure scorer is a player that shoots a lot but makes majority of his shots. The best I have seen. Jordan, Kareem,Karl Malone, Shaq, Hakeem, Bird. King had some really good years for the Knicks. You need a score they will get it for you.

In today's NBA I have to go with LeBron and Durant. They shoot a lot and will shoot over 50%. Some one mentioned Gervin he was a high percentage shooter.

I posted the all time scoring list. That stat speaks volume's (Pun intended).
We discount offensive rebounds? FT's? What about 3pters???
We talking shooters?

Look at Wilts per game:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play...

Dude avgered 50pts one season!!!!! He didn't come into the league until he was 23!!!! He missed 5 years becuase eligibility rules back in the day.
Imagine if he had played since 18! Same for Jabbar!

Its not like these guys played against midgets. Last week someone posted that the "league was better with fewer teams". If so, these guys had to go aginst some tough teams/players.

Nate thurmand, Walt Bellamy, Willis, Bill Russell, Lucas and Unseld. Jabbar had Walton, Nater, Unseld, Bells, Thurmand, Reed, Lanier, cowens, and even Wilt to contend with. These were not midgets!!!

Nalod's pure list:

Wilt and Kareem stand literally above the rest. Then Shaq and Hakeem as the best of the giant class.

Want top all around? Start with Karl Malone, then Mosses Malone,Elvin Hayes, Dantly, Elgin Baylor, Barkley, ewing, Duncan etc.....These guys could also shoot pretty good!

Jordan and Kobe are in a league by themselves. Right behind them are Oscar, Lebron and the Logo.

The high wire acts of Dr. J, Vince, Dominique Wilkens, David Thompson are special.

The pretty boys: Dirk, Alex English and Pierce. Then you have Ray Allen and Clyde (sacrificed to win but could have had more pts.

Then there is the Do what it takes guys: Havlicek, Iverson, Reggie Miller, Adrian Dantly, Nate Archibald and Earl the pearl. These guys were not always pretty but had athletic gifts to compensate.
Havlicek had a great shot and crazy motor, Iverson long arms and freaky ability, Miller was ugly, Dantly was a smaller barkley but a tentatious scorer, Archibald was fast and Earl was unearthly funk with the basketball!

Oh, if we're talking about THAT kind of scoring, then Wilt is numero uno, bar none.

LBJ not that good of a shooter, although he does score a ton.

Nalod @ 12/18/2014 12:20 PM
Might have to add Steph Curry to the pretty boy list.....Kid is SMOOOOOTH!
gunsnewing @ 12/18/2014 12:21 PM

Melo
Iverson
Kobe

with all the great players he's seen in his lifetime, Durant is the best? I find that hard to believe. Right off the bat I believe Bernard King is the best I ever saw and I'm in my 30s.

chime in

Guys who come to mind immediately ---- Jabbar, Gervin, Durant and Pete Maravich. Pete was so good he could have gone for 40 a night but he had to keep teammates happy.

Kareem needed someone to get him the ball but he scored so easily --- many people remember old Kareem but forget the young, graceful player he was early in his career.
