But dead weight salary which we need to preserve for 2015
I doubt Phil takes a salary hit for this yr[for tax reasons]
Nor next year[for available cap reasons]
With GMs knowing Phil is banking 10-15times their pay
They'll make him eat this decision and bank on the fact the $2mil saved
Is more precious at this point and they can get him for free

I think most teams will see it as a poor system fit. Most of his per 36 numbers are the same besides his shooting. He is not a mid range shooter. He needs to be an occasional finisher on a heavy PnR spread the floor team. I am not saying that means teams will try to help the knicks out but they will see him as a useful by low asset. They know they do not have to give up much if anything at all.

He's 33 and he didn't have a great reputation before this year though. I think a team desperate for help at the C spot would give an expiring contract and mid to late 2nd round pick, but I don't expect more. I'd take that though

I thought so also. But when the trade happened there was media speculation that Sam might just be waived because of his unique contract. I thought Sam would slide into Tyson's spot nicely and put up similar numbers. But the team is not competing for anything and he was a one and done guy all along. I thought because of the partial guarantee on his contract that he was always a candidate to be traded. Hopefully he is moved.

Exactly. This is a league always willing to take risk on big and he is a big that can rebound and block shots on an expiring contract. If the knicks and Cavs want to do a deal they could easily make a swap of Shump/dalembert for Haywood/Waiters. That upgrades Clevland. As bad as Shumpert is he is still better than Waiters arguably on both sides of the ball. He is the better catch and shoot player and that's what they need.
Why Haywood is appealing is because his $10M salary next year is not guaranteed until august. Waiters rights would be revoked just like Shump.

I think he is a exactly who has been the past 3-4 yrs except this year he is being ask to take more shots away from the rim.
It will be hard to do a deal without a trade exemption . I was looking around for salary fits--not many that made sense. Even 3.8mm is tough to match.
This reminds me of Bargs. I doubt a team will trade for a player likely to be waived. But hey, we did it.
