Lebron is so full of himself. He thinks he can re create the big 3 on a whim, thinks coaches don't matter, and thinks shumpert and jr smith will help the roster? Guy is not the sharpest tool. He's got so much power and so such little smarts and humility.

If Lebron is the GM than he is a genius. JR, Shumpert & a 1st round pick from OKC for Waiters
If judged on this trade alone, then yes Lebron did well

you mean to tell me that you would rather have Dion waiters(may I remind you he is shooting 24 percent from 3 TWENTY FOUR PERCENT!) over Iman Shumpert, JR Smith and a first round pick? That was a great move. You lack the smarts.
Irving, Shump, Lebron, Love, Mozgov, JR as 6th man will be fun to watch

Jr had a stretch during that 54 win season where he pretty much carried the team for about a month, I remember melo missing about 8 games during that run.
TT was a complete tease, and I recall trading KVH and doleac right about the time we started to gel.

I hear you. But... we did only win 5 games so far this season and JR basically killed our playoff run during the 54 win season. That being said, I hated Tim Thomas more, so I would probably go with him also.
The deal in isolation is clearly better than market value (an absolutely solid B+, given recent reference trades involving Rondo and Hawes among others) but how the acquired cap space and trade exceptions are leveraged will determine whether we see full value. There has been repeated validation of JR's negative value and it becomes treacherous to try and "pump and dump" players with such a checkered history. Cleveland effectively leverages a good deal with Oklahoma (given Waiter's poor performance across all metrics) to subsidize a bad deal with us; more or less, a consequence of their uncertainty with Lebron. Shumpert's impending free agency and plateaued development makes the deal even more impressive. Good job by Jackson.
Waiving Dalembert is also good business; gambling 2 million on what speculatively amounts to a 2nd round pick is unnecessary risk, given the variability on draft night.

Absolutely Nyk, always great to discuss with you.

Well said. Waiters was the 4th pick. His value has dropped. Shump is not part of any plan here. Jr is not either.
A low 1st rounder is not logical. Nor is F500's depictions. In a market that is variable one can lament on all that could have been or deal with reality. As in life, we make good deals and bad ones. Move forward.
What is lost on some is this opens up more deals for Clev or OKC so no need to give them grades on what might be unfinished business. Same for us.
5-31 is no joke. Its real.
Good deal. Jr clears off the books and Shump is no longer eating minutes that could to elsewhere.
Cavs did what they had to do. Things weren't going as well as planned and maybe they catch lightning in a bottle cuz JR can get hot at any time and Shump will be a better defender than they currently had on the perimeter. Seems worth the risk. We weren't going anywhere with those guys.
Now the Knicks have even more cap space and they may clear more yet!!! People forget that having cap space also opens up trades. This move made things WAY more interesting now. Having over $30 mil in cap space will create more options. I was concerned with JR and his Option for next year and now we're FREE!!! No more JR!!!

Awful trade for OkC.
The thing in OKCs favor is they have a great culture and are superb at developing players- they'll get more out of him than anyone else could have. Looks like they'll be moving Reggie at the deadline though.

By having this trade as a distraction to the Cavs
Kevin Love empty stat padded in another Cavs loss
Kevin love, the empty stat monster is back!
F500ONE wrote:The Cavs flipped "Dion fricken Waiters" intoShumpert, J.R. Smith[who's almost an expiring for Cleveland], future 1st
Think about that for a second
I think it's a great trade for the Cavs- I think Shump will play well for them and they get a first. Only risk is adding another chucker in JR to a team full of guys who need the ball.

we gave away two players who had no value and gained cap room so it wasnt bad
We took back those 3 players? Are they all expiring contracts or did we take back salary next year?
It's a C trade. Years past trades usually graded out an F.
I do know one thing though. OKC metrics guys suck and the Cavs pulled off a great deal.
It's a minor trade, but it's still great to get out of JR Smith's contract.
It's just odd that Clevland ships out the worse player and receive 2 better payers and a 1st. Their GM did a great job.
Yeah, it's an A+ grade for them but it's still a fairly good trade for us
Cartman718 wrote:nba tv reporting that we got a 2nd round pick, not a 1st. really? wasn't shump overall #17?
Andrea Bargnani was the #1 pick. You don't always get to trade a guy for the same position you drafted him at

Love played a great game. With Lebron and Irving out, you can't expect them to beat any NBA teams (other than us).
Im impressed that we finally got rid of JR without having to take another team's long term baggage in return. Shump most likely had one foot out the door. Clearing out cap space, losing JR, and getting back a 2nd round pick is a job well done.
I agree that this could help Shump. Lebron can mentor him, maybe help him become a more consistent player. I dont care that Tyson is playing much better somewhere else or that Shump and JR might play better with the Cavs. They weren't working out here and I doubt anything would have changed had they stayed. I wonder if this means that There might be cap room now to keep Larkin?

Be like sending our no. 1 pick this year straight up for Anthony Bennett.
Amare was taken no. 9 in the 2002 draft. In hindsight, he goes no. 1. or two.
Waiters was the 4th overall pick. I think he has not played to his draft position. The pick they get in return is very heavy protected.
Iman was a risk and he played true to a 17th pick and his draft analysis.
