He has become my Fav for the yr

For waiving Josh Smith eating $30mil

And showing evidence of his Raw Meter Master of Panic coaching

LOL @ Greg Monroe nodding like a front runner and the rest of the guys

Acting like he hasn't said 1 word yet

This video is so good

detroit six-game wining streak. stan has balls but it looks like it's paying off. but yeah, some so-called experts around here wanted to bring smith here to form a HOF tandem with our 124 million boo-boo honey nut keep milliners in business franchise "talent."

That is awesome. Sad that an attempt to make it a bash Melo thread has already happened.

Sad but not surprising.

He get credit for turning down a trade for Josh Smith then eating his contract? Interesting. His is excuse that it would have brought back some unnecessary salary was a joke because they are still stuck with a whole bunch of unnecessary salary by cutting Josh.

Coach SVG is cool

GM SVG not so much.

He's not the one who traded for Josh. Same as Phil with TYSON & JR

They had a trade on the table with Sacramento this summer that he pulled. He wanted to keep Josh for this year.

because every thinks that he is the guy who can modify and idiot

Nalod @ 1/7/2015 1:20 PM

Did SVG have to eat the contract?
Or Gores (Piston owner)?

You guys are hysterical! If I signed off on the signing of smith I'd want to see it work before I eat 30 million!!!

SVG likely said when interviewing "He gotta go". Then its logical to compromise and "Lets see how it goes until december 15th and try to trade him".
Im sure what comes back in return is not great.

And, SVG is not going to say "Gores wanted me to try before he ate the money"!

Owner singned off. SVG looks very smart. Owner looks smart. Dumars looks bad.

He didn't want to make a trade

Where he'd be forced to take on more salary

Eat a contract or 3 within a year of making a trade

While taking on players that don't fit his system all for a couple low grade picks

We've seen someone make a trade recently stuck in this very position

I can only imagine what this board would be like if the past 2 weeks

We went on a 6gm winning streak and were 3gms back of a playoff spot

If Phil did that you would kill him and bring up trades he passed on.

BRIGGS @ 1/7/2015 3:14 PM
Detroit just has under performed for their talent level with Josh Smith in the line up.

We cant compare the Knicks to Detroit--Detroit has a top 3 C who is 21 years old--a high quality 6-11 PF who is also 24 several young quality guards mixed in with some vets. I dont know how Detroit went to 5-25 or whatever--but our 5-25 and their 5-25 are two different beasts. Give Van Gundy one hundred miles of credit--just like Im giving Phil credit for a needed purge. Van Gundy narrowed in on the problem and eliminated it. Now this team will rise up to playoff level IMHO and when it gets there is a tough out--not many teams have what they already have in place.

You got the riddle which pointed to Phil doing exactly this

So yes you're right

OTOH I would not have any problems with Phil flat out waiving deadweight

Bargs, Amar'e, Smith, Calderon etc etc

Detroit 7-0 without Josh Smith

i don't think jackson sees what van gundy did and is having an epiphany. the knicks are a corpse anyway. have a look-see at this article.

here are some lulu's:

The "I sacrificed winning to stay in NY" Melo: “Here’s an opportunity, with the trust,” Anthony said Wednesday. “Everything starts now.”

The "elder statesman/psychology major" Melo: "Anthony said the two players had difficulty processing the trade at first, too.

"I had to really try to calm them down and just kind of let them know that everything was going to be all right: ‘You have to move on, you have to get past this,’ ” Anthony said. “It was more upsetting from a friendship standpoint for both of those guys than it was a basketball standpoint. They understood the business of basketball.”

The "Teflon King not my responsibility" Melo: And although Anthony knew last summer that the current season would be a transitional one, he said he was still surprised at how much things had crumbled.

“I kind of knew that it was going to be kind of a rebuilding kind of situation,” Anthony said. “But to be in a situation we’re in, from a record situation, I couldn’t imagine this in a long time, a lot of years.”

LOL... you put the effort in. Ill give you that. Hows Gallo playing? Up to his contract? 7ppg and 365 shooting? But his metrics are probably off the charts. Tough times for DK and the banned band...

Every yr since summer of 2012 he's been talking about rebuilding

Melo ["I 'Have To' Have Faith in Phil"] translation 'no choice but to'

This is on Phil not Meloptoutunist

So why does the team not win when Melo sits?

Briggs just gave you a very valid description about the quality of the Pistons roster in comparison and you gaggle about Melo.
Detroit was way underperforming given its roster. Really, you don't see this?
