We gave up more in the deal because Billups was included in the deal and because we made Fields untouchable. Plus it wasn't a lottery pick we were giving up at the time.

I'm pretty sure Billups was a salary dump. I remember hearing the Knicks were reluctant to add give up Felton. We as fans were very optimistic about the trade until they started asking for Felton & Mozgov. Thats when Stephen A. Smith, Francesa & kay and the likes went on radio saying you give them whatever they want for a player like Melo. Stephen in particular as he mocked felton & mozgov

Yes its clear they wanted him specifically - a right place and time scenario for Denver. Our deal enabled their chain of transactions - a prospect we were likely aware of beforehand, if not the desperation with which it happened. But timing the market and the clutter of multi-team deals come with risk, a risk magnified by our in flux draft position - the most valuable asset here; and I'd pull the trigger again.

Clev really needs Moz and overpaid given their win now aspirations.
Bigs are hard to come by, and the moz has an offensive game.

Knicks don't value their gifts. Mozzy cost us nothing and while no star, we saw the potential career as very valuable.
Same for Lin. While we got caught is a squeeze and Rockets went nuts over him, he was a gift from above.

Yeah, crazy- can't believe no team was willing to give up a back up calibre centre for even just one of those first rounders.

For those praising Denver- remember they gave up one of the anthony picks Dolan gave them and one of their own for Iggy who walked after one season for nothing. This was a good deal for them, but I think their team management has been going downhill for a few seasons now. Their GM doesn't even understand the cba (though to be fair, neither do I)- he offered Faried a deal that wasn't even legal (and it was a really basic mistake).

talk about being wrong... the guy I was infuritated we traded was Felton. He was playing like a beast under MDA and we swapped him for a walk it up guy in Billups. I thought Felton was blossoming into an upper echelon PG under MDA and he may have been... but eventually the only thing that blossomed was his waistline. You never know.

I forget if Denver dumped Billups contract on us or the Knicks asked for Billups since Denver wanted Felton. Most likely Denver dumped his contract on us which was far from expiring
