Knicks · Greg Monroe Shows Out! (page 4)

What does scare me is the Jason Smith signing. Smith maybe the worst player in the league.
Funny that he is #443 out of 444 in RPM.
WTF? I'm just like anyone else who is suggesting targets. Why is my mentioning Monroe somehow invalid. He's a freakin 24 yr old UFA!!! Why in the world wouldn't Phil talk to him? This is probably the most obvious Free Agent visit we can expect. Any UFA with his profile is going to get a call from the Knicks and they will most likely want to talk. There's nothing controversial at all in that. He'd be more affordable than Gasol, so where is the issue?
because I would be really sad if we gave him more than 8-10 million.

I can understand not wanting to overpay a guy, but it's really not that big of a deal. The New CBA is going to flood the league with more money. Player agents are all going to be advising their clients to leave their options open so that they can still cash in. Phil can still manage the cap situation with other young talent including draft picks. Monroe would only be one piece.

Because you make him out to be the number one target as if he is the best player on the open market and he is not even close.
lets worry about the new CBA later.
At the current CBA market, that is what I would pay him.
If everyone wants to sign short term deals so that they can benefit from the new CBA, that is fine too.

I haven't said anything about Monroe that isn't true. I've simply posted his impressive performances since Josh Smith left and defended him against claims that he's a horrible defender, which statistics show that he is not.
The Knicks will have enough money to spend where they can get a Monroe who is one of the better young FA's. He's not the only target so I don't see the need to attack my support for targeting him as if he's the only player that I think we should go after. I've created a thread that lists ALL of the UFA's who are young enough and could be possible targets. We don't know if Phil will go after RFA's too. It's an open market and the Knicks will be active players.
Monroe Pees on himself during DWI arrest.
Sounds like the perfect character guy we are looking to build around Melo.
Maybe he can piss on Melo's head.

Did this man steal your girlfriend or insult your mom? Why are you going in so hard on him? It's starting to get a bit ridiculous how you're looking to bash this man.

Conversely do you work for his agent?
Nix, your thoughts on this:

I am curious why you are defending me like he is your uncle.

Most of us who are truly connected with this sport understood this
But thanks for once again validating with eye test dj
Not needing any metrics to come to such conclusions

The league has so many big men that don't play defense, it's not like back in the 90s and early 2k. You don't need a rim protector in todays game. What you need is a defensive system that makes sense.
You will not get a player in this league who's a monster on Defense and Offense
TripleThreat wrote:nixluva wrote:1. Greg Monroe is 60 out of 487 NBA players in Defensive Win Shares.
2. Greg Monroe has a Defensive Rating of 104
Defensive Win Shares for a player = His team's defensive rating along with his overall individual minutes, steals, blocks, and defensive rebounds.Looking at the players with the best ratings on a team will not determine the best defender; it will determine who picks up the most steals, blocks, and rebounds relative to minutes on the court.
Things Nixluva will fail to tell you
- Opposing team's turnovers or missed FGs are factored into a players DWS, but the methodology distributes the credit for these things to ALL members of the team based on minutes played.
- Statistics have a value and a place in analyzing players, but must be used in CONTEXT
- DWS will not be able to quantify things like lateral defense ( and gauge your lateral quickness), practical area of coverage by said defender, ability to seal off penetration to the rim, ability to communicate and run the defense from the pivot ( calling out screens and switches), denying opposing players usage of passing lanes, forcing the opposing team to alter it's offensive sets and shoot with an expiring clock or frustrate them into poor shot selection/low percentage shots.
Can Monroe rebound? Yes. But who does he play next to? Andre Drummond, who is absolute monster on the glass. Monroe DWS rating benefits from playing with Drummond. Any poor defender's DWS will benefit from playing with a team full of plus defenders or a team that can rebound well. The Pistons are the 5th best rebounding team in the league this year, Monroe is a part of that, but he's not all of it.
Remember one of my favorites? Chuck Hayes, the Chuckwagon himself, rocking it at center at a measly 6'6 and crushing opponent after opponent on the defensive side of the ball in his prime.
"Three-fourths of the world is covered by water, the rest is covered by Chuck Hayes" - Shane Battier
The Chuckwagon chews at another player and rides him down like a dog gnawing at a bone, that player takes a bad shot, misses, and then Luis Scola cleans up the defensive board. This makes Scola look like the more valuable player based on DWS.
Nixluva's mantra just seems to be - "Uh, they'll figure it out, so what!" then claims victim when challenged on his poor understanding of team building and the basic salary cap.
I wonder if Phil can swing a deal for Brandon Jennings
Why not since we're talking about "SHOWING OUT"

If we gave him that offer he would laugh at us and our reputation to potential free agents would be killed. If he is not your preference that's fine, but he is going to make much more than that. Phil will offer free agents what it takes to get them. He won't lowball them.

Seriously dude! What is Howard? Or better yet the other big dude that plays next to Monroe (Drunman)?
16.1 points 12 rebounds 2.3 assists 1 steal 58.7% in 30 minutes a night.
To say this guys stinks or he's not worthy of whatever is strange at this point with 40 more games to go and the playoffs? He's playing very well and they are winning big right now.

Hes absolutely right. Lets take the bets team int he east--do they have a rim protector? A little bit in Horford. But they have a tough team that is highly skilled coached and well balanced. Right now that is what Detroit is. This is not a streak Detroit is on--theyre a good team

Your kidding hopefully, howard is the biggest clown in the league, shaq and barkley are always clowning this dude on TnT, and drummond gets most of his points on put backs, and he's worse then both shaq and Howard at the FT line. You thought Tyson had no post up game, this guy make tyson look like hakeem.
Most of the big man in the league play defense like amare and monroe, they just had a round table discussion on NBA TV recently on the subject, and mark jackson said the same thing on a national televise GSW game.
At this point, you want efficient players, and specialist

So is Brandon Jennings so why no trade
Proposals for him from you but instead you're spending
Time trying grope, fondle, cop a feel the Nuggets into
Giving up McGee for picks
It's one thing to have dialogue on max worthy cats
While ignoring other contributors on same teams or abroad

These guys are ragging on Monroe and highlighting his faults but he's just performing and his team is winning. He had another good game 22/10/2/1 blk. Surely we could use a player who has that kind of talent at 24.
H1AND1 pointed to an article that listed Monroe's flaws and how his game makes him a hard fit to build around but his game actually fits the Triangle which is an old school offense. It's called the Triple Post offense for a reason. Phil would know how best to deploy a big like Monroe.

The problem is that Phil is not the coach. I have no confidence in Fisher nor the coaching staff to effectively use the triangle offense. It is destined to fail. You don't belie me? Tell me one coach other then Phil who ever won with that system.

Phil's hasn't brought the best out of any Knick this year
Here we have Nix doing his usual premature projecting
With absolutely nothing substantial to go off of
Monroe is a dope joke
