Knicks · Total Mismanagement In Developing Wear (page 1)

And others

If Fisher would have started him from Day 1

Man can we all imagine how much further along this kid would be

He has a legit midrange and 3pt shot

He can guard multiple players 2-4

He can pass fairly well when not telegraphing within the triangle

He's incredibly unselfish

We're seriously gonna have to come to a crossroads with Melo

I can't take another season not seeing this guy not get his fair shot

Along with he and Cleanthony being buried on the bench

This is my biggest worry with Fisher

His inability and slowness in developing talent

He better not ruin our lottery pick

Knicks1969 @ 1/8/2015 11:39 PM
I don't like Fisher the coach so far. I really don't like him. After five games, I knew Jayson Smith was a weak rebounder and an even worst defender. Wear outplayed both Amare and Jayson and should be on the court from this point on. Oh, no more Calderon please
yellowboy90 @ 1/8/2015 11:46 PM
Yes he needs to see if that TS can get above 47%.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Wear play over Jason, Amar'e, and Bargs. Wear bear is an unknown at least. I want to see better D and smarter decision. These past two games filled with 3s has been a good sign because those step in twos just inside were painful to watch. Maybe Huggy Wear can make it as a 3/small ball 4.

I mean look at all the players he was behind in the rotation

Melo, Stat, Acy, Smith, and would have been behind Bargnani[had he been healthy]

This is absolute insanity, You could even argue

He was behind Dalembert and Aldrich for the sake of keeping Melo at the 4

Fisher almost shut him out half the games of the previous month

How absurd is this, and it took our overpaid stiffs essentially laying down

In order for him to get some real burn

he is intelligent but needs some muscle to play consistent minutes. he needs to recognize that... i mean he is not kevin durant skilled.
BRIGGS @ 1/8/2015 11:55 PM
Come on--he was very shaky to start. he had his moments but the Knicks have been good with him. Hes a confidant player

None of the players ahead of him helped ease in

The Triangle culture either, Acy has been respectable

But Wear actually runs the System at all times no matter the results

He is near tops amongst the +/- on our team

Smith-Amare-Bargnani had no shot of coming back

Not even if they put up a 20/20 season, Acy may be a player under review

But he was never going to morph into something else above and beyond

Meanwhile while we were 4-14 after 1 month pull the plug on the stiffs

And lay it on thick with Wear sink or swim

He went from guarding Lebron to being a walking ghost

Do you guys really see this as Fisher's fault?

You have scorers like Anthony, Amare, and JR on the team, with Hardaway coming off a much lauded rookie season, not of whom really bought into the Triangle, I might add. You have two PGs with a combined total of about 70 years on the earth.

The reason why players like Wear, Early, Larkin, and now Galloway are not usually going to assert themselves is because it is natural for inexperienced players to defer to the established ones. Do you really think that Wear will be as confident taking his shots if Anthony, Amare, and JR are on the floor?

Two people have the power to change things. The general manager can alter the roster- something Phil is in the process of doing. The other person is the coach, who can alter playing time for individuals, but Fisher is not only a new coach, he is a guy who was playing against many of the guys on his team a year earlier. Not always easy to make earth shaking changes on a team in this situation.

Now we have 2 of our top 3 scorers injured, and the 3rd is now off the team. Add to this Shumpert's exit, and you have some major changes that can't help but lead to changes in the team's chemistry.

Maybe this is a turning point. Two nice games in a row for Wear, the emergence of Galloway, Early's comeback from an injury, and some gutsy play by Larkin- all taking place while the starters have played poorly.

Did not see Wear, Larkin, Early, or Galloway having to defer to a vet, or think twice about asserting themselves during the game. They make a mistake- fine - because they learn from them. This is how growth takes place.

I only hope that Anthony shuts it down, because when he comes back, things might regress.

And one more thing- do you really think that Phil has not say in player development and how much time players are getting?

While some points you make are true in terms of pecking orders

And deferments on court you have no counter though to a coach

Playing him half the games last month 8min or less

There's no explanation for this, not when you start the month 4-14

Yeah, maybe he can develop into a Danny Ferry type.

I'm more than happy that Wear is emerging as a player.

If you've seen some of my posts you will know that I have argued against some who called him a stiff and wanted him off the team.

From the beginning of the year Wear, even when he was not producing that well, was trying to play the game like Fisher and Jackson wanted it played. You saw a lot of hesitation in his shooting because of the things I mentioned above, but I was always impressed by what he was doing.

You and I know that this is a players league- we have seen enough evidence of this- and a new coach is not going to readily alter the established order on a team.

I think this game may be a turning point in the season in terms of who plays and who sits- but things won't change immediately, IMO. Add to this the potential comeback of Anthony, and change will be even slower.

If what we saw tonight continues for another 5 games you will see more permanent changes in how much court time players get, and evernything done by Fisher will have Phil's blessing.

KEEPCAMBYNY @ 1/9/2015 2:20 AM
You guys need to relax! Wear is a human being not a robot, or in other words, you can't just throw a rookie, who just came from playing 30 games a season in college, into the starting lineup from day 1. If we did, he would likely be hitting the rookie wall right now. I think it was perfect to incorporate the young guys now when there is about 40 games left so that it feels closer to a schedule that they are used to. Imo, Fish did it right, he gave him minutes here and there to get comfortable early on, but now he can start to get the big minutes. Then next year he will hopefully be ready for a full 82.
Nalod @ 1/9/2015 7:12 AM
Its the typical connect the dot type reaction when a player has a good game looks to be stepping up.

The hater will say "omg, the coach has been holding him back, what an idiot, I told you!"

Or...........

"The rookie was developed thru the season and when the coaching staff thought he was ready, he was given an opportunity"

Nalod said "wear was part of the future" and you freaking panned it.

How did I know this? Because an undrafted rookie not in the Dleague sitting is there for a purpose until he is not. Eitehr he is demoted to Dleague, waived or starts to play.

F500, your looking for "gotcha moment"....

If Wear succeeds its not just fisher, but maybe some assistants who have worked with him every day. Then in a group decision, which i'd say includes Phil they decided play him. Also, we traded players to make time available.

Some might look the toots having a good game as a good thing. Others want to indict the coach as holding them back.
They were given the chance because they were ready.

Soon they'll be tired and get to try it again. Soon they'll face players who saw tape on them and greater effort to stopping them. Then they will start learning at a higher level.

CrushAlot @ 1/9/2015 7:25 AM
Knicks are doing a good job with Wear. He was an undrafted rookie free agent that they saw enough in to keep and drop a vet. The season isn't even half over yet. Wear has already played 400 minutes. That is more minutes then Cope got the entire year last year on the Pacers. Be fair. The knicks have/had a glut of vets and some are/were being showcased. Lets hope Wear keeps playing as well as last night.
nyk4ever @ 1/9/2015 8:04 AM
lol yeah, we should have started a rookie from the start. wow, the posters on this board these days leave alot to be desired.

Did you just say "be fair" ???? This is ultimateKnicks.... but yea, you post is spot on and backed by a nice example.
VDesai @ 1/9/2015 8:53 AM
This thread is stupid. Wear was a late signing to the summer league that we had at least the vision to add to the roster. And you're killing them for not playing him day 1? He's only getting an opportunity because he's on a team that's 5-33.

+1 - Listen, he had a nice game last night, but in any game that hasn't looked like an AAU game, he hasn't been very good. Can he turn into a guy that could be relied on for 10 min at the pro-level? Maybe? I personally don't think he has the skills for the NBA. I have been impressed by what I have seen from Galloway/Early on the other hand.

Alot of nonsense here bro.

Wear has had his shot to play and he looks scared shitless. They signed him to the main roster dude he's getting his fair shake at being a good player. Not sure if you watched the game or just saw the box score but wear was garbage tonight. He was left open alot down the stretch. It was fun to see him hit some of those but you can't knock fisher. Wear doesn't have any confidence. You can't develop confidence. That's all on wear.

Newsflash on cleanthony.... he had knee surgery shortly after the season started. He just got back a few games ago.

You just need to relax. You want to see development? We just traded 2 bums holding the organization back in shump and jr smith. I expect to see more of these changes so we can properly develop our youth.
