Knicks · Lets say Melo gets surgey and hes good to go in 4 months (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 1/15/2015 1:11 AM
How about this trade with Minnesota

Pick lets say 3 or 4 pick 33 Chase Budinger Anthony Bennett for Melo. We take back 11mm in sht salary and they get a star who can come in and play with Rubio KeVin Martin Wiggins Mo Williams Pervoic--it makes them formidable right away. Melo plays with a good team he get another 10mm and we get a second high lottery pick and a high 2.

Allanfan20 @ 1/15/2015 1:16 AM
There's no way he'll get this surgery before the all star game. The man is hell bent to play for some reason.

I think Anthony would only go to a big market contender where he is the "final piece," like Chicago, or a team in a city where he could cultivate his "brand."

Minny has some good things going for it, but I cannot see Anthony consenting to this kind of trade. Also expect that his wife might have a few choice words about the move. The T-Wolves would have to have an amazing second half to interest Anthony- they are just too far away at this point... and he might not want to go there not matter how much progress they made by the end of the season.

mreinman @ 1/15/2015 4:41 AM
Anthony ain't going to minny! puhlease
smackeddog @ 1/15/2015 4:46 AM
Do you really think Melo would wave his no trade clause to go to the Twolves?

I think people greatly overestimated how good the Bulls would have been if they added Melo- the media were all acting as if they would be championship calibre. In reality, Noah is under performing this season due to a serious knee surgery (I suspect micro fracture), and Rose is a shadow of his former self (as expected).

But they're still on pace to win 50 to 55 games

This trade proposal is a dream scenario. I can't imagine a team giving up a lottery pick to take on Melo's salary even if Melo wanted to go to Minn.
gunsnewing @ 1/15/2015 6:27 AM
I suggested trading Melo to Minnie 2yrs ago and was completely roasted lol

Vmart @ 1/15/2015 8:53 AM
Trade him to the Bulls for Butler, Gibson and McDermott or pick.
gunsnewing @ 1/15/2015 8:57 AM
If at some point we can trade Melo and get our 2016 lottery pick back I will be estatic.

Shame people are so vehemently against having 2 consecutive lottery picks to truly rebuild and change the culture of the team

melo has a no trade clause. will he waive it to go to minny? lol...

you need to focus on deals to either LA team, chicago...and maybe houston + miami.

KNICKSBIGCATS @ 1/15/2015 9:07 AM
Not hoping an injury on anyone, but....

Let's say that Melo insists on playing AMA and he injures himself
to the point that his career is over. What are the cap ramifications
if that should happen? I imagine that his remaining salary is guaranteed,
but would we be granted a huge injury exception going forward?

Yes to the other four, but a deal with LAL would be tacky (Jeanie).

Only if he retires because of the injury. The. Insurance pays his salary but it probably still counts against our cap for 5yrs.

We've been through it Before with Mcdyess and Houston. Watching a player sit at the end of the elbench in a suit for multiple seasons taking up 40% of the cap is one of the hardest things to live with

its kind of perfect actually... LAL has the cap space to absorb most of his deal in a trade, and negotiations would certainly be done in confidence.

Thanks, Guns.

No true rebuild can begin until that overpriced, egotistical, cap hog is playing elsewhere.
We need to pop the pimple ASAP.

I think you guys see Melo in a wrong angle. He is a very good player in the proper system I wouldn't go to far to say at times he can be great. I would only trade Melo for assests which will help the Knicks going forward.

That's how I would modify your statement. Almost every player can be good or bad depending on the salary.

No doubt Melo is a good peace for any contending team...
But no one will take a risk on him for more that 2 seasons.
Especially for max.
He is un-trade-able regardless of his personal desire.
NOBODY will take his contract except Dolan... but Dolan cannot get him twice.

well your "right salary" is nothing close to reality or market value so that pretty much kills the discussion. VMart is 100% correct from a straight up basketball sense simply saying that Melo is a good player and a valuable piece to have. The only thing that will really set us back is if he breaks down physically.
