? The guy is 270 pounds Davis is lucky to push 225. I like Davis but his frame may not allow him to play even 3 consecutive 80 game seasons.
What you're getting with Oakfor? Hes going to be able to dominate the low block from the 4--command double teams--grab 10 rebounds a game score 20-30 points every night in the 60% region. Hes a very decent man on man and team defender. Not a great shotblocker but should avg 1.5. Should avg 4-5 assists per game.
Who is the great shot-blocker or defender on GS or Atlanta? How about they have a bunch of great players who play great team basketball. Thats what I think Okafor is a great player who plays team basketball. I don't want to compare Towns to Okafor--Towns could potentially do more--that is possible but hes also showed that he still has a long way to go. Okafor is proven already. Im still not sure whether Towns is better than Portis. The guy after Okafor is likely Russell but it will be fluid all year. Would love to see Towns put together 7-8 straight 12-7-3 games in 24 minutes(and maybe one game Cal lets him go 30 minutes) --but he hasnt come close to that yet

The system Towns plays in does not allow him to show his entire offensive repertoire. They are so deep, they rotate 4 to 5 players every two or three minutes. Okafor on the other hand plays a long stretch of basketball. Towns is certainly the better player out of the two. It took me a while to see that, but BRIGGS he is right.

His help defense was horrible today, I watch as the pittsburg bigman and guards got to them rim and he sat there and watched.

Yeah there were too many drives he didn't heavily contest
The fact Pitt got in the paint as much as they did is another sign
There is some lack of respect in this area or at the rim
While he was on the floor
As far as he productivity no question he'll be good but
It's hard for any big no matter the talent
To put up 20-30pts, 10reb, 60% every night, this might not happen until his 3rd or 4th season
I love his game offensively though, and his passing is really good
I'm still taking him #1 and not looking back
I'm just focused on his defensive game it will matter at some point

Yes....I saw that during a different game.
OK4 is the safest pick. At worst, he'll be a zach randolph.... Towns on the other hand has a higher ceiling, but is a high risk. He could be another Anthony Davis or at worst Anthony Randolph. Do you go with the high ceiling (Towns / Mudiay) or low risk (OK4)?
Knicks1969@ 1/19/2015 9:49 PM
I don't like that kid Mudiay. Russell is the guard we MUST target. Towns and Russell
yellowboy90@ 1/19/2015 9:51 PM
I will say it again a lot will change as he grows into his man body. Also, I am not expecting a big that move around like Drummand, Noah, Horford, Davis, or Jordan. I see him defending like the Gasol bros, R. Lopez, or a Bynum. Positional and good team d. I just wish he was at a place that was known for there defense. He doesn't have to blk an enormous amount of shots as long as he is rotating an changing players shots.
FistOfOakley@ 1/19/2015 9:58 PM
he can be a decent defender... it's just not there right now... however someone like towns has the athleticism to be very good right when he gets to the nba and it has to do with towns lateral quickness and his energy level... okafor is lacking...
okafor reminds me more of like a demarcus cousins without an outside game and it took him about 4-5 years to be a passable nba defender...
WaltLongmire@ 1/19/2015 10:03 PM
Have not seen enough of him to know whether this was the kind of help D he plays all the time, but there were a couple of times when I saw him not react (on D or boxing out) tonight where, and I am sorry I have to say this, I thought of Bargnani.
I can live with a lot of flaws in a player, but I need to see defensive intensity from a big man.
FistOfOakley@ 1/19/2015 10:06 PM
yea with melo around any big that comes aboard has to be a solid defender...

Exactly. This is why I feel Towns will compliment Melo better. Love OK4 but him and Melo together is a concern on both ends

More will be revealed.....we've got a ways to go until the draft and we'll learn a great deal about these top players in the next 5 months. Personally, I'm intrigued by Mudiay...especially after what I heard Larry Brown say. Phil does like his guards, doesn't he?
FistOfOakley@ 1/19/2015 11:45 PM
he doesn't shoot well though but that could come with time...

He likes 6'6'' shooting guards

Kelly Oubre has been picking it up--he's a 6-7 SG who is one of the upper tier athletic players in the draft for his size with the handle and shot. Before the season I had him as my pre season number 1 pick of the entire draft but he really slumped to start the season. I actually wrote about Kelly Oubre two years ago when Uconn had him as pick 1 in the recruiting process over anyone in this years freshmen class in 2012. That was Jim Calhoun who had him picked there by the way of Madison CT He's actually bigger than Mudiay with a much better shot.

Here are parts of the First Take interview with LB on Mudiay
Near 8:00min mark on First Take where Skip interjects and
Ask him opinion about Mudiay forgoing college
Here's what he said about the Knicks

His situation is different from Towns in that he has to watch his fouls and level of aggressiveness. It's not that big a deal for Kentucky if Towns gets in foul troublw. Even, we still heard whispers about Towns not being as intensevas he needs to be. Plus, OK4 is better fit in the triangle because he already knows how to read passing lanes out of the post.
