Was Korver just a role player on a defensive team to spread the floor for Thibs and The Bulls?
I know their games are completely different, however, my point is that probably EVERYONE would say Korver was JUST A ROLE PLAYER
Well, he is not JUST a role player, he is a big part of the success with EVERYONE else on the Atlanta Hawks

Green is a elite defender and can do EVERYTHING, you put him in ANY SYSTEM and he still will be a great defender
He is used to INITIATE the OFFENSE at times in the post and he can spread the floor OFF the ball as well

He is a big part of the success that GS has this year, as he was very limited in minutes with Mark Jackson
His versatilty on OFFENSE and DEFENSE is exactly what we need

So what is the difference between GS in the past years and this year?
Draymond Green in the STARTING LINEUP and their DEFENSE, with even better ball movement/floor spacing that he provides

To be fair, it took Draymond Green a while to get his offensive game to the point where it wasn't a liability. People used to question why Jackson gave Draymond so many minutes.

He's actually progressed on a normal curve

Considering his time given on the court

He had a couple rough patches last yr but overall

Once his position and minutes were established he's done fine

Matter of fact he's improved every yr he's been in the league

3yrs young in his career, you speak as if this is his 5th yr or something

No, I realize Green is a young player. I'm just saying that is was tough to keep him on the court earlier in his year because his offense was weak. I give him props for improving his game. I wish Shump had the same level of improvement with us.

Green is a restricted free agent, it's going to be difficult for Golden State to keep him with the money they have committed to Steph, Iggy, Klay, Bogut and Lee. I've liked him since he played at Michigan State, compared him to Anthony Mason coming out of the draft because of his ability to handle the ball at his size, pass, his versatility and defense.

He's having a tremendous defensive year as a combo forward for the Warriors. He's quick enough laterally to hang with 3's and has the brute strength to guard 4's, he's even defended 5's like Marc Gasol. He has some of the quickest strongest hands in the league averaging about 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals a game, dudes defensive I.Q. is just through the roof. He's on pace to accumulate over 6 defensive win shares (leading the league at the moment) only forwards to have done that recently are LeBron James ('09) and Paul George ('13). Historically, the other guys to have done it are Marion ('01), Pippen ('94, '95), Havlicek ('69), DeBusschere ('71) and Rodman ('91).

He's leading the league in defensive rating as well, and ranks fourth in defensive box plus minus behind Bogut, Gobert and Duncan. The Warriors are 6 points worse with him off the floor, take into account even with him off the floor they are an elite defense his impact is ridiculous.

I'd offer him a max contract thoughts? Here's his mixtape just for you guys who don't get to see him.

Draymond Green '14-'15: 11.5 points, 8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.5 blocks, 54% TS, 32 minutes

One of my friends at another forum compared him favorably to Dave DeBusschere quite interesting wouldn't mind if you guys give it a read if you have the time...

http://hoops-nation.com/community/topic/116124-draymond-green-is-this-generations-dave-debusschere/

I've been a fan since he played at Michigan St but i'm not sure he's worth a max contract. I mean he's worth a big contract and would be one heck of a get for us but not max.

Do you see the guys who are getting max contracts nowadays? Young guys gets locked up like that people thought it was crazy when guys like Hayward and Hibbert got the max.

and they now have a much better ccach

They have a much more mature roster. The coach is good, but not better then coach Jackson

Jackson isn't a good coach at all, he's a players coach and a motivator when it comes to X's and O's he's below average. Warriors fans hate this guy. Kerr is smarter, he's getting too much credit though when posters are attributing GS's success to him. It's more like Steph and Klay broke out, Draymond Green and Bogut are having historically good defensive seasons, and the Warriors have plenty of depth on both sides of the ball. Also this is a team of guys who like each other great chemistry. You add that to Kerr's understanding of the game, X's and O's and ability to motivate and you've got a team on pace to win 70 games.

That is my point, I am not targetting Draymond Green for what he brings on the court alone
There are a lot intangibles and things that we can learn as a team from him, especially younger guys with high ceilings which we will have
And that is why I am targetting players from teams like Atlanta, Spurs, and GS, and some talented players on BAD teams

He has a lot of fundamentals that can teach to our guys
He can provided leadership that we have lacked since Kidd was here
Again, I am not trying to WIN next year with him, I am trying to improve the development and create a style of play that would stay for the next 10 years with great DEF and CHEMISTRY
How to play DEF, how to communicate, how to defend, when to help, when not to help, those are the things that are important to the game but gets left out in the box scores

A lot of young guys can still change their games, however, older guys are more or less set in their ways
Some of us here keep using the boxscores to judge what a player is worth when the game is a lot more than that....

Talent alone isn't enough, however, add talent with HIGH IQ and great anticipation with cohesiveness as whole, it would change the entire culture and development for our players

CA's game is a scorer and not a facilitator, defender, and leader, watch JR Smith and Tyson Chandler when they leave
Watch Iman become relevant again...

Despite Green only being in his 3rd year, his understanding of the game is way beyond the veterans we have on our roster
And that is why GS is better this year, they attack as a whole unit

FistOfOakley @ 1/21/2015 8:01 PM
you know... tyson chandler was renowned for his defense and his intensity and leadership on that end of the court... at the end of the day even he wilted under the pressure...

it takes a lot of guys to buy in and communicate... one guy doesn't do that... tyson chandler was a center... trying to build off of the good teams role players might make for a good attitude... but you're not winning cause you're not getting curry, klay thompson, horford or tim duncan...

FistOfOakley @ 1/21/2015 8:07 PM
when i say pressure i mean the total lack of attention to defense by the knicks.. one man can't do it alone...
RonRon @ 1/21/2015 9:06 PM
Green is anything BUT one dimmensional

Unlike Chandler, he can actually teach them how to defend, Chandler plays the Center position and is anchor to the defense
He needs another 7 footer and high IQ players around him

But Green defends can defend as a G or Forward, whereas Chandler only plays as a Center

Draymond Green is a mini Josh Smith with a brain.

I disagree on the Ariza play. I thought he would have ran by him if Curry didn't turn around at the last second.

Beverley is the right kind of nut ala the Lambeer, Mahorn, Rodman, reggie Miller. He is not historically great like the last two but he just plays the game with edge.

STATMELO @ 1/22/2015 12:20 AM
Bev is honestly one of the best on-ball defenders I've ever seen, so tenacious.
F500ONE @ 1/22/2015 12:23 AM
He'd be the best Knick Player on the team

If somehow signed this off-season

We'd have to have a Dray Day if it ever arrived

I see no way the Warriors let Green get away. He fits perfectly into their chemistry as a team. It's hard to find players like him. Plus he's young too. We're gonna have to find and develop our own version of him cuz no way they let him go.

See Josh Smith is the bad kind of nut. Bev goes to the edge to make you explode.

they really should NOT let him go however, their payroll is 73-74m, if you throw a max contract at Green, it will shoot up to about 90m
As a smart market team, they will be forced to make some moves if they do keep him
Like move David Lee or/and Iggy or/and Bogut
Lets not forget Harrison Barnes will get payed in 2 years as well, while they already are signed McAdoo and are developing Justin Holiday as well
If they are unable to move some contracts around, their boss might not be willing to pay the tax and keep that team intact, trying to look for cheaper options

But that isn't the point, the point is we should try regardless
Just like throwing a max offer to Kawaii or/and Jimmy Butler, worse case scenario is they match, we have nothing to lose

We are trying to play like these teams like GS, Atlanta, Spur's
So lets get players that know how to play in that type of system, preferably younger players
Smart/HIGH IQ, versatile on BOTH OFF AND DEFENSE, and skilled players

Draymond Green is NOT just a role player, he is much very skilled and a big part of why GS's record is much improved this year when compared to past seasons
Surely it isn't all him, it is the way they play, something we are trying to emulate
Look at how they play DEFENSE vs Houston and just SWEPT him 4x this year, mainly BLOW OUTS from the start

We are talking about the BEST SCORER in today's NBA today and one of the better teams in the entire league

Surely having something of Green's caliber would have a great affect on the development of our own young guys, especially our #1 Pick this summer and our Weschester upcoming Knicks
And that is why I want him the most, an extension of a coach both on and off the court, players of his caliber are very rare and i think even more important than CA at his age
The way he plays MAKES OTHERS better

CA's game does not make anyone better, look at JR Smith once he joined Cleveland...
We have to realize CA is what he is, a scorer and nothing more
