He isn't a free agent. His rights are owned by the Knicks. Not sure why you would call him a free agent.
Poor phrasing of words, it was said in light of
Ron pointing out the Poison Pill what ifs
I'm saying we're in a position to call him up now
Even if just to finish off the season instead of worrying about
Him becoming a free agent on the half yr deal or even at a 2yr deal
To becoming a free agent again a yr later
Yes I spoke to him being called up by another team but
I should have mentioned they would have to trade for his rights, so my bad there
All I'm saying I'd like us to show love to our own before someone else does
In a lost season, especially someone who passed up a $500k contract
I'm reading more and more articles on the Web with wonderment on what we're waiting for

The reality is that he may get traded. His contract makes him an easy throw in. In regards to his coming up, I don't think he is ready and the Knicks as an organization lose roster and cap flexibility by moving him up and they lose nothing by keeping him in Westchester. The Knicks are in a great situation with him because he is working with their developmental coaches but he isn't on assignment/under contract.

You mention roster spot and cap flexibility
Can you expound on this a little
Provide a little more detail how it hurts the Knicks
Like some metric examples
If you choose to do so keep in mind
There's lots of talk of cutting-waiving Andrea Bargnani soon
Alright now go

Sure. If a spot opens up the Knicks can pick up someone else and they still will have Thanasis. If that guy doesn't work out they can pick up someone else and they still have Thanasis etc. If the Knicks sign Thanasis they have to hold his salary slot this offseason or renounce his rights and lose him. If they don't sign him they still have his rights and he doesn't have a salary slot.

Langston is the very reason why you should call players up
Our history has shown we don't find players this late
And then sign them as part of the future
This is a built in unknown fear excuse
There is no major risk to call him up
If it comes down to making room for a potential gem
You waive Lou and-or Lance or Bargnani[like we're planning on doing]
You get the youth on the NBA court now so the learning curve is cut down
We're not fielding a team of a bunch of waived d-league free agent players next yr
You know this as does everyone else
Have you read the recent article covering Joe Alexander
And what he said about the NBA and the D-League, it was so full of awesome
^^^^^What do the knicks lose if they keep him in Westchester working with the Knicks developmental staff for the rest of the season?

He's not playing the triangle system with some
Of our players, NBA players and there's always a chance
You think you may have a better player, but we don't
And we keep him down there wasting away
One of our biggest weakness is backcourt defensive help
This is one thing he possibly could solve
Whose roster spot did Langston jeopardize by being called up

Sam was waived. Langston truly was a free agent and was playing well. If the Knicks didn't sign him another team could have signed him. Thanasis's rights are owned by the Knicks. No other team can sign him.

So this comes down to you being a lot
Toned down on Than compared to a month ago
But once again who's spot did Langston take away once Sam was waived
You're implying if we sign Than he's going to eat away
At a future potential signing, as in you're looking past Than
But should he get called up whenever that is I'm going to either assume
You'll feel the same way now or that it will be the absolute
Perfect time to call him up throwing your present reasoning aside
I hope he gets called up before this yr concludes
Especially with Early not getting any burn

How can you look past Thanasis if you already have him and he is working with Knicks developmental coaches? The Knicks have Thanasis where they want him. I really can't see your side to this at all.

I usually dont engage in these long as 1 on 1 threads. But i agree with Crush on this 1. The major goal is to accumulate as much talent as possible. If than is improving and looks like a future keeper, then why bring him up and hurt our chances at for the #1 pick?
Than is a keeper....regardless where he plays this yr or next. Galloway couldve been picked up by another team....we didnt have his rights.
F500...your method is also the right move....just not right now. I agree with u....i like him a lot. I play defense....thats my specialty. So i think hes going to be a great 2 way role player for us next yr. But we trying to win the TANK BOWL.....Dont forget. Typical Knick fan....no patience. Let Than dominate the nbdl....he aint going no where....add some other clowns in search for more Than type players.
I wonder if the fact that he's still here means no one would give up a 2nd round pick for him
Bonn1997 wrote:I wonder if the fact that he's still here means no one would give up a 2nd round pick for him
Farmer and Nate are out there for nothing. Guys are coming back from China soon (will Bynum etc.). Not sure a team needs to give up an asset to get a solid back up point. Pablo is really good and a team might see him as the perfect fit.
Isn't there also a contractual loophole? Something with bird right or early bird rights? As in if they bring up Thansis this season they'll be limited in the contract they can offer? But after a year they can give him a longer deal? Something like that? I rememebr reading an explanation of this situation and now I'm googling and can't find it again. It mightve been a Twitter conversation. Hmmm. Anyone know what I'm talking about (also I may just be misremembering...).

I am not sure about his contract but I remember reading that the guy they would bring up was Galloway because they had Thanasis's rights. I think it was Schlosser, in the KnicksBlog. Schlosser is the lead writer for Ridiculous Upside and knows the d league very well.
