Well there is a report Elijah Milsap signed
A 3yr deal between $1-1.5mil per year
Well all I can say let this be another example
Of what Phil can expect this summer with other free agents
One of the things I don't like about the Amundson and Lance situation
If they remain for the rest of season they will come with a cap hit
If we renounce them at season's end like Galloway anyone can sign them once free
They simply seem like a no high reward options here
Galloway needs to be locked up and we need to call up Thanasis and sign him
But Phil is sweating bullets over $800k guaranteed for this kid?

Galloway would be signed by another team. Thanasis's rights belong to the Knicks so nothing can happen to him.
I thought Galloway was a protected d-leaguer. if he stayed there, no one could sign him except us.
No the Knicks were allowed to protect three players that they had in training camp from the d league draft. They were still free agents in regards to nba teams.
Crush ... very impressed with your d-league knowledge
this stuff is way over my head
Thanks. I love the d league especially now that the Knicks are using it. Ridiculous Upside is a great site if you want to read about it. D-League Digest and Upside and Motor are also good.
yeah ... I watched the knicks play Reno the other day. Reno blew me away with their style and efficiency.
I wish I had more time to watch more d-league. I would also love to see what morey has his d team doing. He does some crazy proof of concept testing there.

I would give him this year, next year, and a team option for a 3rd year. At the very least Galloway is a 15-20MPG rotational guy who plays more if his shooting is hot on a particular night, to a guy with a ceiling of 15 PPG, 4 APG, 5 RPG, and 1 SPG, good D rotational player/starter getting 25-30 MPG.
Phil would be foolish to let him go at this point. Galloway is no savior, but he looks like a keeper at this point.
in phils defense when it comes to melo james dolan calls the shots so phil probably had little say
You are probably correct. Dolan would have to save face after the way we got him in the first place.

I read about the d league more than I watch it but Morey and the Rockets are one of the teams that has used the d league really successfully. I also liked what the Cavs were doing last year.
If they are really hung up over 800k being guaranteed for next year then that is silly. Yes it would be nice if he would have excepted the exact contract Millsap accepted but Millsap didn't start any games. This is like locking up a 2nd rd pick. Get it done and move on.
The Knicks should lock Galloway up, say 6m 4yrs. Low risk high reward.
While I dont truly understand the d-league aspect, I do understand the knicks cap situation....they can only sign galloway to a min deal since they are OVER the cap. Any team can do that, and some even more. Thats the likely issue.

Isn't Milsap older than Thomas?

That could be part of the issue
But I think it has more to do with how much
Of the contract is guaranteed yr-to-yr and possibly invoking Options on the contract
I don't see a bunch of teams willing to offer him loads of guaranteed money because they can
Calderon's contract keeps on giving doesn't it?

He is but Utah is a team full of babies
Whereas we're a team devoid of them at least
Not any locked up long term and-or on multi-yr deals
Elijah is also very green to the NBA whereas Thomas isn't
This isn't his first rodeo

I wouldnt use calderons contract in this, not really related at all. if anything look no further than melo's. This team will have to fill at least 12-13 spots next season, some of those guys will be cheaper contract players. The guy fits that bill imo.

I haven't been watching teams other than the Knicks much since Christmas break. Is Millsap playing well for the Jazz?

Well actually Melo's contract take's a dip next yr
$1.4mil hence that should cover taking on Galloway
If Phil hadn't taken on more salary, but yes Galloway fits the bill
Phil should pretty much agree to whatever he wants
Why play hardball with cheap role players

I saw highlights of him having at least 1 good game
Haven't seen him play live real time
I'll check him out tonight
Statistically he's contributing given the minutes

The dip really matters little imo when a team has to fill almost the entire roster. A dangerous precedent may be set if Phil cant get this resolved. He's gonna need cheap marginal talent to fill out the roster, guys who mnight be able to bloom above their pay. all of the better teams have these types of players.

Are you really that ignorant about Thanasis??? There is NO reason to bring him up at this point and start his clock earlier than necessary. C'mon man wake up!
So what I am hearing is that we are not going to sign him? Not even for the rest of the season? What kind of crap is this?

Agreed, you're correct precedent is being set
In negotiations with a role player, it's nip and tuck
Just think what it will be like when he as a questionable
Free agent in front of him wanting all the bacon
If Gallo wants guaranteed money then give it to him
I mean he passes up on Larkin, Acy and Wear look like after thoughts to Lou and Lance
He hasn't called up Than, so what kind of young talent do Phil and Fish like
Here's the article if anyone wants to read it.
This is bizarre. What does Phil Jackson think he's going to get with an extra $300K next Summer (we'd have a $500K cap hold because of the open roster spot). And, according to him, we're not looking to rebuild the team in one Summer anyway
so what's the big deal?
Looks like Phil is doing a Larry Brown like sabotage to this team.
Guess thats what happens when you hire former Pacer and Bulls employees
Deal should get done.... Langston is playing hardball like he should since he has leverage and not asking for much... Phil's balking because most hes trying to do what most smart GMs do... Get a team option for the 2nd year...
He will relent in the end... They have more to lose...
