I was flipping through channels and the NBA TV was showing Zach Randolph score over Tyson Chandler, and the commentators were talking about how Zach could play in China until he is 50.
Zach played well when he was here, but that didn't translate to wins.
JR is lighting it up for the Cavs- evidently because he can't light up late night on the town.
I could put a roster together that would win 50 games (in the East) of players playing today that we essentially jettisoned because for whatever reason, they weren't working out here, or we thought we could do better.
Meanwhile, the wretched Knick roster resembles an NBDL team with a handful of cast off NBA Players who, I think, we'll all agree, are overpaid.
Why is it players leave and suddenly become successful & play up to potential.
I think the answer I see is culture- and that might be the one bright spot moving forward with Phil if he can continue to build and hold Dolan at bay.
A lot of those players were jettisoned were because of Melo or even the idea of signing somebody like Melo. ZBo was let go to make room for a superstar(i.e. Melo). Gallo, The Mayor, Mozzy, draft picks for Melo. DLee sent away for a superstar(this one was for Amare).
I guess starphuching (credit Nalod) is the cause.
Part of the problem is that the Knicks usually sell low.

It feels like a Layden curse. Layden always proposed lopsided trades for our benefit. When he left we were getting buttfarked on almost every trade.
Look at the Yankees, some players just can't handle the spotlight but can shine elsewhere.
And some players (Lin comes to mind but there have been many), excel under the Broadway Lights.
JR is a pretty bad example though, he had a stinker last night as well as a few others. But, that pretty much is him as far as streaky goes.
Chandler was coming off of a bad injury. So, I don't think that he stopped trying and such. He was Defensive Player of the Year here so...
Zach played very good here, but he didn't have as much of a team as Memphis has imo.
combo of it everything mentioned so far.
Mostly it me it comes down to two things: Style of play and a plan. When have the Knicks established either of those two things for more than an 18 mos period?
How you can build a team with a revolving door of players, coaches and GM when you have no clue or plan on what your building?

Pretty much. Having Phil, Fisher and the triangle is the first time which the front office and coaching staff have been on the same page.
Just need these impatient ass knick fans to give it more then half of a season.
Because Knick fans are idiot. Every player we have is either a god or an absolute bum- there is nothing in between. When the over inflated god can't fulfil the unrealistic expectations, fans turn on them, focusing only on what they can't do and demand they be run out of town for nothing. Zero patience, zero tolerance. In reality all players have both good and bad aspects to their games. They will fluctuate back and forth between the two throughout their careers.
Also, it's easy to focus on the players that left and did well. For every Zach randolph, there's a Steve Francis, a Ronnie Brewer, a Stephon Marbury, an Eddy Curry, a Jerome James, a Jalen Rose, etc etc etc
Also, JR was not lighting it up in last nights game. He shot 2-11. Shump shot 1-5. It's called filtered perception- you're only paying attention to the players that fit your theory and ignore/don't see when players don't.

dont try and bring facts to the disucussion, they will just be pushed aside. everyone who leaves becomes an all-star, mozgove is now an mvp candidate and melo is the worst player in the league. get it? got it? good.

You hit the nail on the head
One, because the hungry media in NY make it impossible for the organization to be patient; second, the players are always heavily scrutinized; third, the night life is very detrimental if they are not disciplined; last but not least, because we have the worst developmental strategy in the business. Perhaps, Phil might be able to fix that

It's all about NBA playing legacy. ZBo, Crawful, Gallo, Mayor, Moz, Dlee, Lin, Fields, Novak, Changling, Felton. It's a who's who of the NBA Universe!
I can't wait to read about all the great things these future HOF'ers are going to continue to do, for other franchises, on the UK!
Shandon and Eisly look good next to Stocton and Malone.
Many of the guys mentioned are doing well in situations very different than the one they had in NY.
Crawford became a great 6th man. Isiah thought Him and Marbury would be a great combo.
Z-Bo matured and next to Marc Gasol looks great. Also, the core of those two, with Conley for the last 4 years is big. They built chemistry.
Zbo in MDA's system was never going to work. Zbo in Isiah's circus of idiocy was never going to work.
We have also moved more players in the last 5 years than anyother team.
IN 15 years, 8 coaches and 7 gm's.........2nd worse record in the NBA in that time.
It all adds up!!!!
BTW, fans being idots or not don't run the franchise or make decisions. If management sells the starphuch and delivers as they have its bound to create the Boo's.
Media has been far more easy becuase its apparent we are rebuilding. Most fans are getting it. The low thinkers or those who react to whats in front of them will do so emotionally.
This is going to take a while. Managing expectations is part of the game. As fans, we have to manage our own by using logic.
BBal is a team game. Right?
Players are better when they are playing in the system they are feet in...
When team has no system, no plan, no identity players will also struggle.
So I think when we see "used to be Knicks players" doing well in well run and structured organizations it is very normal and natural.
We always send players to better teams....Theres no city like NYC thats open 24hrs. Theres no media, fans and historical pressure like NYC. Its hard enough for NYC born players to handle this pressure. But NYC will take a young millionaire and chew him alive. Its like you have to OD on the nightlife a few times b4 you really mature.
Its all of the above.

It's why you can't develop in NY, New kids coming to the league with new wealth, party like rock stars, practice like lazy ass holes.
Ny is for vets who want to win, and have high IQ's
I think the problem is that in NY, the GM's usually made moves because they peruse Knick Boards, get ideas about crazy trades and crazy signings and ...
They listen(ed) to US!!!!!
Phil is an azz cause he should be reading our fukin insane ideas and implement them ... or else he is an idiot!
See Donnie Walsh's Summer of 2010 plan.
