“I think this is the best situation for me, ’cause there’s nothing but basketball. There’s nothing you expect but basketball. There’s nothing, there’s no going out, there’s no late nights. There’s video games, basketball and basketball. So it’s a great thing, ’cause I go back to where I came from. When I grew up, I never, I wasn’t allowed to go out. I missed my prom because I went to an AAU tournament, and all that stuff. For me, it was basketball, basketball, basketball. And then when I got in the situation where I was at an early age, it was more, alright, let me see what this life is about, as opposed to just keep going. So now, I get the chance to get back to my roots….

I always made myself better by staying in the gym. When you replace that with stuff off the court, then you’re taking away from what made you who you are, or what got you to a certain point. It was kind of pulling me down in a sense, of not getting enough rest, not doing things you’re supposed to be doing, things you’re used to doing. So when you start missing those shots you’re supposed to make, especially wide-open shots, it was like, alright, what’s going on, what’s going on? Instead of looking at what it is, you’re reverting to that even more, instead of going back to the basics. So I think that’s the greatest part about being here.”

While Jr Smith is known for saying all the right things while doing the opposite like what was said in the bottom paragraph. What is highlighted is very understandable and makes a lot of sense to his personality. Same thing Michael Jackson and a lot of other people have gone through in there life feeling they missed there youth, they go crazy trying to overcompensate.

Yea, but I was more interested into why he was partying so much and couldn't contain himself.

because he is a moron basically. Been that way all his career, great talent and no brain. Thats why i said giving him more than a one year deal was a mistake even after his sixth man year. We had to give up an assett just to get rid of him

We don't need to be discussing what players in other teams are saying.

not sure where you have been but multiple threads about opposing players are posted here every day so its fine
JrZyHuStLa @ 1/30/2015 8:29 AM
Yea because JR Smith was forced to indulge in the NYC nightlife with alcohol, drugs and inappropriate tweets and clearly did not have the freedom to use his own good judgement for the betterment of his career.

This has been brought up so many times this past month..

What I find more interesting is the cause and effext of a guy who dedicated his childhood to play in the NBA. Got drafted out of highschool. Then as he reached his goal and got paid wanted to have a second childhood. Which has pretty much ruined his career and most of the work he put in to reach the NBA.

He had the dicipline to miss his prom but lost it in the NBA

Many Knick fans popped corks when he was resigned

The Knicks were pretty desperate for scoring at the time. This illustrates the downside of having players come back home. For every Mark Jackson and Al Harrinton and who embrace the opportunity, there are guys like Rod Strickland, Marbury and JR Smith who probably would've been better off if they never suited up for the Knicks.

Well....if he is a moron for partying in NYC.....Then 90% of people that grew up in NYC are morons for doing the same thing. If you're not a moron, then you're a geek that never left the house at night.

It's like calling my 9 year old a moron, just because he hasn't matured yet.

JR even said it himself.....His entire child hood was devoted to basketball. My entire child hood was devoted to the streets. Now fast forward a bit, and what you have is JR trying to catchup on things he wish he could've done as a child, under his parents restrictions and no money.

For me, I have enough money to paint the entire city red.....Stay out all night, drink and have fun all weekend. The difference is I've been there and done that already. I've matured and moved on to bigger and better things. And when I do go out, I have enough strength to go home and sleep instead of staying out longer due to peer pressure.

Now that JR has spent his millions in NYC.....Over did it multiple times and now lives in Cleveland......This is the first time JR will start to mature. This is why I tell all young people, get that hanging out stuff out early. Or you will be a grown man doing childish things.

or, he will figure out that the night life in Cleveland is there, you just don't go out. Won't be long before he discovers the 'house party'. JR is JR.

there is a difference between having fun and allowing it to affect your job. The maturity excuses is fine when you are 19 or 20. Jr smith is 30 i think. I mean i loved going out to bars in college but didnt let it affect me and grew out of it

JR isn't a moron for partying in NY, he's a moron for nearly letting it destroy his career. Jordan, Jeter, Ewing, Lebron...all of those went out during their playing careers. But they were also disciplined enough to realize the game came first. I mean, Rihanna I could understand. But the other crap was ridiculous and disrespectful to the club.
