Knicks · Langston is starting to fall off (page 2)

He looked slower last game and this one.

He is a good outside shooter... but when the legs go the shots don't go in- especially from distance.

Bradley is a great defensive guard, but, for the most part, I didn't think Galloway was really looking for shots. Bradley hit some crazy shots from the outside, today, but he also had better penetration against Galloway than is acceptable, IMO.

Also remember something Fisher said about the Triangle months ago- guys have to cut to the basket as if they want the ball- I thought Galloway's cuts were more of the "clear the area" type- just going through the motions.

Did see him making a number of picks for other players, and he had 5 assists in the first half, but I expect more from him, especially with his jumper.

He has never been known for creating his own shots- they need to come within the flow of the offense. Guys have to find him, but he also has to get himself into the right position to encourage teammates to pass to him. Having some picks set for him would be nice.

He grows and evolves as a player, or his minutes will be minimized at some point. I see him as a 20-25 MPG guy, but who really knows what kind of player he will end up being.

Problem is THJ has no value on a championship caliber team. He's too much of a defensive liability. He'd be gone already if Larry Brown was coaching. He would be labeled Delusional v2.0

he is becoming more of an offensive liability.

Yeah, he's been a bricklayer for an extended number of games.
I hope they move him at the deadline. He's not part of the solution.

You might be able to chalk that up to a sophomore slump but I have no time for streaky players. At his best he is a poor man's Jr. Since JR is actually capable of doing a little more on the floor other than shoot. THJ is a career 6-7th man at best

I actually thought he played some D against the Celtics. I have issues with him at times, but he looked OK in this game.

Have to throw out last year, and the expectations it created for him, and just let him develop as a player. Not ready to give up on him just yet.

we cannot afford to have thj sit... he is the tank mvp...

Did not like him last year either. Way too streaky and one dimensional. He is not one iota like JR

gunsnewing @ 2/3/2015 10:47 PM
We have cap space to add a SG who can defend and consistently hit open 3's now. We can't afford to give THJ more time. If his shot was off but he was a lock down defender than I might give him enough time. Too many gapping holes. We need to be good next year without spending all our cap on over the hill bigs. We don't have a pick in 2016. We need to make the playoffs

Nope. I never understood why we drafted him in the first place when we had Shumpert and were planning on resigning JR. I would still take Shumpert over THJ 10 out of 10 times. Unfortunately Shump had to go cos he was a cap casualty and had to be included to rid us of JR's "ridiculous" contract

Galloway is looking like a rookie adjusting to getting nba minutes while traveling from city to city.
TPercy @ 2/3/2015 10:54 PM
This is what like his 6th/7th NBA game? lets see how he does overall towards may, most of the other rookies have already settled in by now. I have faith that this kid will adjust

They both don't do it for me.

I hope we trade him- I'd even gamble on trading him for PJ Hairston if the Hornets were willing. Now JR has gone we can take on 1 slightly problematic player, plus PJ at least looks like he could become a good defender one day. Also I remember the reports at the draft saying Phil was very high on him.

Yeah take a look at his match ups defensively against Stuckey and Bradley. Not only could he NOT score he could not get stops 1-1. He's a heart player with SOME skill a 10-13th player on a team--not a starting 5 guy.

Agreed. I've felt that way about him for awhile now. I know Phil's thinking is triangle this, triangle that and it's OK if our guards lack creativity/penetration -- I just can't for the life of me see settling for a PG like a Jose Calderon or Langston Galloway and thinking that's good enough -- a guy that CANNOT get to the rim off some kind of penetration on a consistent basis. It's such a flawed way of thinking about our PG spot. Maybe that's OK when you have the two best players in the sport at two separate time intervals (Jordan/Pippen, Kobe/Shaq). You put Galloway out there with MJ, Kobe and/or a point forward like a Scottie Pippen and have him play off the ball, he'd be fine. Melo's great, but he's not that type of player. He needs players around him that offer penetration, quickness, ball-handling, some creativity etc. With this team we're trying to build here, I think it's extremely misguided if they think they don't need a PG that can both break guys down off the dribble a little bit and push it for some easy baskets. Galloway's OK, not terrible, but we can do better. He's not really a PG--the man's better off the ball and then yeah, you're looking at a 6'2" SG...Melo said recently that Galloway reminds him of Jeremy Lin. I mean I don't see that at all. At the height of "Linsanity," Lin was breaking down guys off the dribble all over the place + converting from the perimeter etc. Galloway offers very little off the dribble. They're really nothing alike...Personally, I'd love to see a HUGE upgrade at the point by the start of next season. I'd like to see TWO new legit PGs with the ability to knock down open threes and move the ball, sure, but also guys that can get deep in the lane and get out and play a little transition ball too. I keep going back to the same guys -- Brandon Knight, Goran Dragic, Mudiay in the draft, I'd love to bring in Bryce Cotton right now for a look on a 10-day contract, etc.. I want well-rounded PGs, not guys that just shoot 3s and move the ball side to side...I think they know Galloway's not the answer--that's why they hesitated signing him to any kind of a guaranteed deal for next year.

GustavBahler @ 2/4/2015 7:38 AM
Unrealistic to expect Galloway to consistently play like a veteran, right off the bat. May never be good enough to be a consistent starter, but maybe he's good enough to be a solid backup. Galloway has been playing in the NBA for just a few weeks. He has the luxury this season of getting the minutes to figure things out.
Bonn1997 @ 2/4/2015 9:52 AM
Or he may have just overachieved for a few games against bad teams and may not even be NBA material. It's unclear. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any money guaranteed for next year though. So it's a good low risk gamble.
fishmike @ 2/4/2015 10:25 AM
Galloway's career will be based on his ability to defend and hit the 3, two things he's equipped to succeed at. That doesnt mean he will, only that time will tell. He's allowed to take his lumps and have his growing pains and grow from them. The only question is will he.

Starks was a small-ish SG who played with heart but was hella streaky. And he became one of the most beloved Knicks of all time. Don't sell "heart" too cheaply - it matters to Knicks fans, particularly in light of the no-heart-me-first-BS we have become accustomed to seeing.

He's a keeper for now, worth 15mpg to develop.
