Knicks · Shades of Lonnie Shelton: Is The Melo "Recruitment" Effort Tampering? (page 1)

misterearl @ 2/6/2015 3:45 PM
Are the Knicks so desperate that Carmelo Anthony must act like a carnival barker during all-star weekend?

Haven't the Knicks been penalized (and penalized themselves) enough?

Knicks1969 @ 2/6/2015 4:12 PM
Dude...there is nothing wrong with players recruiting each other. That is not illegal
gunsnewing @ 2/6/2015 4:16 PM

Tampering. Can't do it in season. Knicks would face stiff penalties.

Melo is not recruiting. It's just more uninformed speak like calling teammates contracts ridiculous

EnySpree @ 2/6/2015 4:35 PM
This recruiting thing is overblown. Melo playing for the Knicks so he's just a host. These guys are all best friends off the court. They go on vacation and they are god parents to each others kids. They play in the Olympics. Not to mention they ate all filthy rich. Alot of these guys have homes in nyc or at least spend a big party of their off session in nyc. Nothing melo can do to persuade anybody. People know what to expect in nyc. Phil has to paint the picture in the off season that he can form a winning club. I believe that all will take care of itself
gunsnewing @ 2/6/2015 4:41 PM
^Right which Is why Melo is an idiot for placing so much value on an Allstar game. But then again it's all he has to show in his cupboard. He should make the team a priority over his own personal gains and brand and get healthy so he can finish his contract.

But then again that would be the first time Melo shown any ounce of leadership

I think all this stuff is overblown. In a lost season there is nothing wrong with him wanting to play in an MSG hosted all star game
nixluva @ 2/6/2015 9:09 PM
I'm actually glad that he can play. It's a big showcase and in our home town and we have an All Star.

You got to be kidding right? I sure hope so. melo needs to be doing everything he can during all star weekend to get these free agents to at least have New York as an option for them.
tj23 @ 2/7/2015 4:20 AM
I think there's some guys out there weighing their options and just maybe Melo can help persuade them to come here. Not betting on it though. I'm expecting us to overpay just to be competitive. Wouldn't shock me if we gave Wes Mathews close to a max.

No, Knicks1969 is right. Only basketball front offices can be guilty of tampering, players are allowed to do whatever they like in terms of recruitment.

Yes we are that desperate. If we luck out in FA, we have no pick, which means 2015-16 would be a repeat of this season but without the draft to look forward too- awful!

gunsnewing @ 2/7/2015 12:01 PM
Yea no draft picks because of the moves that were vehemently defended by knicks fans. You know the "Who cares about draft picks when you are getting a talent like Andrea Bargnani"
