could stop Jahill Okafor today from scoring 25 points given 38 minutes of PT from the 4 position and shooting better than 50% of his shots? remember he is roughly 6-10 275 pounds and quick.

Cole Alrich..... Alot of guys think if he played 36 minutes he would rival wilt chamberlain
H1AND1 @ 2/15/2015 5:15 PM
Nobody but what does this prove exactly? Nobody on the worst team in the league could defend him? That he can score on Bargs and Amare doesn't say much. Im pretty sure my elderly mother could score on those two dudes. Saying no current Knicks could defend him doesn't give us _any_ kind of indication of what he is likely to become as a pro.
mreinman @ 2/15/2015 6:35 PM
the question is:

who can he stop on the knicks?

Actually Bargs would have the best shot. He's a very good man defender. He uses really good technique of not allowing his man to feel where he is. He uses an extended arm rather than the elbow across the back, which good offensive players use to spin off of when they feel the defender lean in. Bargs actually keeps a good distance and uses his length to alter shots. He would have the best shot. Not saying he'd be 100% successful, but he's been a very good man defender for his career. Just not as good as a help defender.

But any given day there's a 70% chance Bargs won't even be healthy enough to play. I'll admit that about once a season he has a game where his man to man defense is really impressive though.

Actually he's pretty consistently good on Man D. He can't stay healthy, but when he's playing he's a good man defender and always has been.

Synergy Sports ranked Bargnani in the 88th percentile in post defense on a per-possession basis, and the 56th percentile in isolation defense last season (with a gaudy 95th percentile overall). It wasn’t all Dwane Casey’s wizardry last season (though his work with Bargnani’s defense should not be ignored, but we’ll get there. In 2011, he was 47th percentile in post and 83rd percentile in isolation. 2010? 72nd percentile in the post, 28th in isolation. Bear in mind these numbers are regardless of the number of possessions, so someone that defended in the post once successfully logs in at the top of the chart. So basically, he’s even better than these numbers indicate, relative to his position.

Fair enough. I've been looking at the defensive ratings on bball reference but that's not just a measure of man to man defense. Rebounding and steals are counted too. I'm sure a healthy, motivated Bargs on defense would be more of an obstacle than what Okafor faces in college.
nixluva @ 2/15/2015 7:17 PM
Bargs has wasted an enormous amount of talent. He hasn't done the work to really advance his fitness and stay healthy. He hasn't adjusted his game after his 3pt shot was lost as a real weapon. He's just been a disappointment all the way around. That said he at least does one thing well on D and that is guard his man. Next to a rangy shot blocker he's actually OK.
EnySpree @ 2/15/2015 8:16 PM
Bargnani isn't as bad as people say. You can't watch those videos and say he's trash. He's not the best but when he's healthy, he's a nice talent to have in your lineup.

I actually like the dude and want to see him back next year. He's not going to get 14 mil but if he stays for 5 mil I say we keep him. Especially if we lose out on okafor. If Okafor isn't our center I would not mind if Bargnani was our center.
