What reason is there for him to play any basketball from February until next September?
Agreed. Kind of ridiculous at this point.
Not sure. He has always chosen rehab over surgery if it is an option. Maybe he thinks it looks bad to shut it down immediately after the all star game. Hopefully Amare leaving lets him know that the knicks are tearing things down and he should take care of his health.
Perhaps he think the competition on the court from here on in will be at the same level of intensity shown at the All-Star Game he just competed in for 30 minutes.
He will shut it down. If Dolan does not step in and demand that he sbuts it down, we will all know whether this franchise will have a positive future. Dude is looking more and more less athletic and inutile.
He is shutting it down. He's undecided because he can't announce it. Don't really see an issue there.

What do you mean "can't announce it"?
I think people need to stop overreacting on this subject and the crappie media guys in New York need to leave him alone cause he's going to shut it down soon. He already said the doctor told him it's an injury that won't get worse but it obviously won't get better so I'm sure he's gonna announce he's shutting it down soon. I'm more worried about how his recruiting went during all star weekend.
I never understood the saying that an injury won't get worse. You mean if he bangs knees with someone or even if the exact same event that caused the injury happens again, it won't worsen the injury? Nothing on the court can worsen the injury?
Melo being Melo. He can't make decisions so Phil should make it for him.
Newhorkerforever - unless you are bundling every comment into one pile, The Answer Man double dog dares you to cite specific examples of the over-reaction. It is concern that Melo is making decisions that are, in his mind, better for him than the team.
What are the doctors saying?
At this point in the season, how can Anthony be undecided?

Has the exact nature of the injury ever even been made public? Which doctors have examined him? Has he received multiple opinions from different doctors?
I was always under the impression that Bargnani and Calderon were coming back earlier than they eventually did, respectively. Now we are told that Anthony needs surgery, but the injury cannot get worse.
How will folks react if the injury was worse than expected and Anthony's recovery is longer than the reported 2 months?
Hopefully Anthony is just trying to play "tough guy," and wants to make it seem like he is willing to continue but it is the team that is telling him to shut it down, and he is only doing it "reluctantly."

The injury is supposed to be a tendon injury. Maybe someone qualified like Caseloads could speculate. I am not sure what risk he puts himself in when he plays.

Those are things that can just make any situation worse. Even if you're completely healthy, banging knees can result in a bruise or something. I think Melo means that just by playing, the injury wont get worse but the problem is that it's not gonna get better without surgery it seems.
any time that you are favoring other ares due to an injury, you risk other injuries.
Should have never resigned this clown period

That's exactly it. He got very bad press for waited to play in the Allstar. Now Melo Enterprises is doing damage control
