...why we traded Chandler (expiring contract) and Felton (2 more year at $4mm) for Calderon (3 years at $7mm)? A year before we were trying to maximize cash available to sign free agents?
To move malcontents, bring back picks, a young player, a center that was supposed to spell Tyson and a point guard that was known as a leader and efficient player.

The center that was waived and the young prospect whose option was declined, and the point guard who were trying to package with other assets to dump? Is that right?

You asked to be reminded of why it was done no? If you want it call Phil out based on hindsight that is a different thread topic

This is like banging your head on an anvil.
No matter how many times we explain this there is just a contingent that isn't paying attention to what is going on.
We weren't hurt by this deal since it may just lead to us getting a high draft pick this year. Plus as you said we added Early, Thanasis, Labeyrie, Larkin and Acy from that trade. Having Felton wasn't going to work. Jose was worth a shot if Plan A did in fact work but he wasn't the only thing we got. Phil has been doing this duel approach since day one. He's done a little for the present and a lot for the future in everything he's done. His FA signings and players he got in trades have been working pretty well recently and could provide much of the bench going forward.
So since he's been here he's added:
2014 draft - Added Picks 34, 51 and 57
2017 Draft - Added one 2nd rd. pick
2019 Draft - Added two 2nd rd. picks.
He's not even done yet.
At the time it looked great..... Felton and Tyson both sucked and we're getting worse for our team. On and off the court. So they had to go. Nobody expected the Knicks to be fighting for the top pick in the draft. So no use worrying about that. The Knicks today are in a good place. Nothing to really worry about..... yet
I am all for draft picks. However, we needed a few picks for this draft. Perhaps Phil can flip this pick if it ain't top 3

Don't recall many folks being too enamored with Chandler or Felton last year.
I expect that Calderon was seen as being move serviceable in the Triangle than Felton and Chandler was not only an unsuitable Triangle center, but also a player who might have rubbed certain individuals the wrong way last season with his outspokenness.
Chandler might have brought us a #1 if we had kept him this year, but we still have to see whether Early and Thanasis develop before we really condemn this trade.
Sorry dude, Calderon is a huge disappointment

Depending if you were expecting the guy to drop 18 pts and 10 assists a game and play locked down defense....
His last year with Dallas he was 11 pts and 4 assists. As a knick he's been 9 pts and 4 assists.....hardly a disappointment. The team as a whole gave up before he even played his first game as a knick.

Getting hurt was the worst thing that happened- took him a long time to regain his game and it was a chemistry-buster.

Sorry can't help you there Panos

Very weak response Crush. I expect better from you
Didn't we get clearanthony Early thru the draft pick from the trade?
He got hurt but has shown some rookie promise he can stick in the league.
Maybe he turns into a player asset, or a trade asset?
Early hasnt shown anything. Even when he got sent down to DLeague and got a chance to play heavy minutes he was awful.
But yes I guess he can be a guy you attach to a deal. But you can do that with any young bum and you don't have to trade TYSON for him

Phil thought it would improve the team enough to make the playoffs so we'd be more attractive to free agents next Summer. There are also rumors that Melo and Tyson don't like each other and getting rid of Tyson was to try and help resign Melo last Summer.

It was a draft pick. Your making it like we all had this information when the deal was made. True Clearanthony has not shown anything. Do we know the future from here?

It's gotta be rough being called out by Tyson an NBA champion

But did he play in the All-Star game? You have to look at that.

He was an Olympian too but did he play? Dude was coming off the bench and he was the only center on the team.

I think Vcoug was joking because of the supreme importance Melo places on playing in the all-star game
