Knicks · So Melo did played with partial tier... how stupid is this? (page 1)

In general why player with guaranteed contract will do this things to himself?
It was clear from the start of the season that Knicks are not going anywhere.
PJ is no dummy so he does not care if Melo will damage his goods more.
This tells me Melo is out of Zen equation from the beginning.
franco12 @ 2/23/2015 8:17 AM
I wonder when the tear occurred. Did it happen before he signed his big contract? Would any other team have actually signed him, assuming they would have done a physical first?

How stupid for everyone involved.

Article pointed out to second game of the season... but who knows.
He had some minor issues last season.
I would think he was being checked at least summer time but with Knicks who knows...

Melo pretty much as free reign thanks to dolan. I doubt Phil has any power over melo decisions unforunetly

It's the same injury JR had in March of the 54 win season/sixth man of the year..JR also had a torn lateral meniscus..He played thru the second round..JR had his surgery in July of that year..
VCoug @ 2/23/2015 9:24 AM
Good thing he couldn't aggravate his injury by playing on it </sarcasm>
arkrud @ 2/23/2015 12:12 PM
This is normal aging process.
Melo needs to realize that his carrier is approaching the end.
He need to play and act differently.
Hopefully his agents and Knicks organization can convince him to face the reality.

I wonder what it is going to take for the them to clear out the house on the medical side of things. Feels like players have been screwed over on injury / rehab since Ewing's wrist.
jrodmc @ 2/23/2015 12:27 PM
Good thing it's only a faked injury. With real, faked surgery. [sarcasm, sarcasm]
fishmike @ 2/23/2015 12:28 PM
by the way EVERY time you sprain anything you have a "partial tear"

I agree, the medical situations with the Knicks have been a circus over the years. Added so much unnecessary drama.

Phil wanted to, but Dolan veto'd him.

The medical staff is for all of MSG not just the basketball team..Still, it's an excuse..These athletes who has the most money on the planet can't see Dr. Andrews like every other athlete.?

I think grade 1 sprain = a little ligament damage (like stretching) but no tearing and player probably doesn't miss any time
Grade 2 = partial tearing and player misses some time
Grade 3 = full tear

Athletes can choose to use their own doctors not MSG booms.
But it will cost them... so it is more greediness on player part, Melo included if his team is really stupid enough to save on using MSG doctors.
Melo is in full right to make decisions on his own body.
He is not a slave and nowhere in his contract he is obligated to shut it down on Knicks request.
My point id PJ does not care about Melo this way or another.
He stated this multiple times before and after the contract extension.
Melo is not part of the solution and he is not part of the problem.
He is like Garden building. Too much money invested to dump it... but it will go away naturally when NY will shut the site down for Port Authority project.

Well I think Melo/the Knicks knew exactly what his situation is and chose to play anyway...It's their choice..This is being overblown in NY because it's what we do..JR had the same surgery in July and missed the first 5 games because of his knee and 5 on drug suspension...We love the drama...

Melo makes 4 times what JR does and there are over 4 years left on his contract. So even if the surgery is supposedly similar, the circumstances and the impact on the franchise is decisively different.

So he could sign the contract he got and in the off season choose to compete in the UFC circuit.

Or could he decide that parachuting is his new hobby, or any other sport which increases his chance of getting hurt?

There are clauses in contracts which prohibit players from doing certain things off the court. Anthony is not a "slave," but is a major "investment," and a company has a right to protect its investment. Given the state of the NBA, in some instances the star on the team is closer to being the "master" than the head coach, and even the GM, especially if he has the tacit support of the owner.

Seems to be some evidence that Anthony was more concerned about promoting his "brand" than taking into consideration the long term success of his team.

If the tear was known about from the beginning, he should have been shut down immediately;

If the knee was not as bad when first tested, then it did get worse, and all the crap we heard about it being OK to play was BS;

If the full extent of the injury was not known until recently, then the Knicks and Anthony are both blameworthy;

If the injury was know about prior to the contract, or if there was no pre-contract physical, then Phil is a fool.

Phil and Fisher could have chosen not to play him, by the way, which, in essence, would shut him down, whether he wanted it or not. It would start a player/management conflict, but I don't think Anthony could force the Knicks to play him, especially if they had a nice x-ray of the tear and a couple of doctors saying it would be better if he didn't play.

Drama. Overblown, we love it..Melo will be ready for training camp and two games into the preseason no one will remember this...

For whatever reason, Boomer and Carton were on this morning, comparing Melo to being the Arod of the Knicks. Boomer, based on his tweet log (or whatever it's called) determined that a large contingent of Knicks fans just don't like Melo. No explanation, just dislike.

I hate NY media sometimes...precisely because of the unending need for anti-homer drama. Dirty laundry always sells.

Finestrg @ 2/23/2015 2:18 PM
Completely irresponsible for Melo to continue playing with it and for the organization to allow it. Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. They should all be ashamed--Melo & the organization. Jesus H Christ man -- can we ever do anything right???
