Knicks · The ultimate off season for our knicks (page 3)

20mm $ for K j mcdaniels and you think 20mm for Stuckey is too much? We can have Demarre Carrol for the same price proven and in his prime

No to stuckey. A SG that cant shoot or defend at a high level. Need a true impact player. Can't see fans being excited at a team like this next fall. I like the froncourt and like Koufos, he will be a value signing for someone this offseason, maybe us, but that backcourt leaves a lot to be desired.
Rodney is more of a hybrid 1-2 which suits this team much better. Have you watched any Stuckey at all lately? Hes playing at the highest levels of his career. The entire format of my roster is based on two way players defense first and Stuckey is just fine on that end. Stuckey will cost me less maybe as much as 4-5mm per year and I like him better for this team. He gives us the penetration we just have not had and he can shoot fine(guys an 85% FT shooter) and will get great spacing here. I went VERY aggressive into the draft and I went for secondary free agents who will cost us less but I think will give the same value that the higher cost would especially in the quality of depth. Each player I thought of would be getting a nice raise and give me a lot back in Carroll Koufus MO Williams and Stuckey. I also added lower level guys Anjica back up C Villenuva 3 point specialist and can step in on any unit and Fields back as he can handle like a PG at 6-8 and can hit the three but has played himself into an NBA minimum contract. The roster was built on SIZE length athletic ability and the common theme of unit two is defense first. This is not the end game but its the beginning so I want to keep thoinsg flexible and keep my salary cap open for the following year. Im allowing players like Koufus Anjica to sprout their skills and getting known quantities for a good price in Carroll Stuckey and Williams. And with Williams I can go up in price if need be on year 1 and give him a partial guarantee on yr 2 to make sure I get him for this year. Over time I intend to move forward with the three younger PG's. This is an Eastern Conference playoff team --we'd be one of the biggest deepest teams in the east but I have made room in the back end for the future.
Not a bad team that is realistic except for the amount of rookies unless we are able to trade CA and do a full blown rebuild till 2017
We will bring in Thanasis next season unless he is traded, also think Orlando Sanchez will be a Knick as well, unless another team signs him this season which we could still bring him up and give the same exact deal to him that Galloway got
Also I do not see us getting so many late 1st rounders or/and early 2nd rounders in this draft
Teams/GM's tend to hate us and NOT trade us anything of value unless we seriously overpay for it
This is a very good draft and probably only the middle/late picks will be traded
Despite many teams having multiple picks that they cannot fully use all in this year *some will be used to Stash Euro talent* while some will be traded to other teams instead of the Knicks, who many teams want to see us lose especially because our picks are scatterred around and the teams that own our picks would benefit from us sucking whether it is a 1st or 2nd rounder
Even if it wasn't for those picks, GM's teams almost never would help us, don't know if they literally hate us or Dolan, hopefully Phil Jackson can change that "culture"
Just a hunch but I think we will keep our 2018 1st rounder, 2020 1st rounder, and 2022 1st rounder, maybe trade either 2020 or 2022 to get in this draft, but at least keep at least 2 of those picks for possible future deals to use Calderon in the final year of his contract/trade deadline or so with other contracts to trade for an ALL STAR tier player after we assemble a solid core to try to execute the Triangle
demarre carroll is 28 who will be coming off his best season by far.. a 4 yr deal is a recipe for disaster... stuckey is also 29...

You went hard Briggs.
Alot of great ideas. Maurice, Demar Carroll and Koufus are nice names that I think could contribute on the cheap.
FistOfOakley wrote:i can't get talked into stuckey... even for 3mm... if he's small he's gotta be able to shoot and he's not going to have the ball in his hands too much here...
This team needs a player who can get to the rim from the perimeter. You want 1-2 guys who can hit the three but you need post play and penetration to have offensive balance.
With carmelo and two guys capable of posting with Mo williams at the point guard stuckey would have oodles of room to go where he needs to go. We dont want 4 guys shooting 20 footers all game. Stuckey is physicla and gets fouled a lot where he shoots 85%. Thats one thing we need.
FistOfOakley wrote:the guy can be a great defender... he might already be a great defender... if he gets his shot on track he's already outperforming his contract... he's 22...demarre carroll is 28 who will be coming off his best season by far.. a 4 yr deal is a recipe for disaster... stuckey is also 29...
Carroll is in his prime and is playing on a great team. In my scenario--I went aggressive into the draft for the frontcourt and backcourt. I need pro level players in their prime. Stuckey Koufus Anjica Carroll Fields in their mid to late v20's and only Mo Williams and Villanueava in their early 30
fields has nerve damage and his career likely over...
i think you're being a little too optimistic with the draft picks.. but i'm with you there... we should get as many as possible... i just don't see it happening...
FistOfOakley wrote:koufos and ajinca i like and fit the young, good defenders profile that WILL come cheap..... carroll is going to get too much.. it's a career year for him and he has never played at this level before and he's playing on a great team...fields has nerve damage and his career likely over...
No one is going to pay more than 5-6mm for Carroll and no one is going to pay more than 6-7mm for Stuckey. You are getting both players for the cost of what Wes Matthews is going to get. We have to OUTBID a guy worth 20B for Matthews. Matthews is a 3 pt specialist--I dont want anyone taking 8 3's a game not named Curry or Korver.
C-Towns
PF- Monroe (I love Milsap, but I like the idea of having a younger player who may improve over the next few years rather than decline)
SF- Melo
SG- Honestly I would like Wes, but considering his recent comments and Portlands capspace galore this offseason, I don't see him leaving. Maybe Khris Middleton or Danny Green instead
PG- Patrick Beverly
Calderon off the bench.
I also think there is a reasonable chance that Kevin Love will sign with us (I really don't want him too!)- I think Phil can sell him on the offence going through him and perfectly complementing his skill set. He needs to continue to struggle in Cleveland though, and perhaps an early exit would increase the chances of his departure.
So just out of interest, If he did sign with us, how would you 'Phil' out the roster? (ho hum!). Would you go for Towns or Russell?

Ron if there is ever a draft to drive into its this one for us. Philly is not making 4 selections in rd 1 and 5 in rd 2 not happening. IF and I emphasize IF the right player is there we should be AGGRESSIVE rebuilding our frontline for the LONG term. I can see how we can find a few players in rd 2 and undrafted--Ill tell you other than Galloway---Im not enamored with anyone on this roster.
The Philadelphia 76ers were trying to trade up for a top pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and indicated a willingness to discuss Joel Embiid or any player on their team, an NBA source told Forbes.com's Mark Heisler. While the souce is unnamed, Heisler has long covered Phil Jackson, and the New York Knicks will have one of the top selections in the draft. Heisler also has close connections to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Embiid was drafted third overall last June and has been out for the entire season following surgery on a broken bone in his right foot.
i'm not a big matthews fan either... i do like mcdaniels and probably one of the better sg's out there in a very thin guard market... the guy is 22 and he's already performed decently as a rookie.. it'd be like getting a 2014 first rd pick back...

If they give us Embiid and their top 4 pick for our pick if we got #1 then I think we have to make that deal. It is a possibility. Draft Towns and Embiid.... that would be sick

if we are sure Towns or Russell would be there than sure.
Hopefully Knicks get #1 Philly #2 than they get Ok4 we get Towns & Embid! That would be amazing. Then again Embid might be another colossal bust like Greg Oden but it would be worth a shot

Pretty sure Philly wasnt discussing Embiid and their pick for our pick. Pretty sure it would be just Ebriid for our pick.

save some money for 2016
The ultimate off season assumes this is a one Summer process. It is great to play fantasy games, however, this ain't a fantasy league and the process only STARTS with this off season. We are starting from scratch and starting with limited assets, other than cash.
Money, alone, never solved anything. How do you measure heart... and the ability to thrive in New York City?
If the Knicks acquire a first round pick who can start, and a single free agent who compliments him, it is an outstanding off season.
Two productive moves this off season. Two moves the next. That is a start.
