Let's assume we land the #1 or #2 pick... if we keep our cards hidden we may be able to trade down and land either 2 picks or a pick and player. These are a few scenarios that might be worth exploring...
Lakers (currently have picks 4, 26 and 34) - also have Julius Randle coming off an injury
Minn (currently have picks 2 and 34) - also have K.Martin
Phil (3, 15, 35, 43)
Would you swap for Lakers at 4 and take pick 26 with it?
If Philly really wants Mudiay (as suggested), would we swap and take picks 3 and 15?
Take Minn pick at 2, swap Calderon for K.Martin

Problem is sixers want Mudiay, and he will likely be the third or fourth pick, so they wouldn't need to trade. If they do trade, likely it would be Embiid and the Miami pick for a top 3.

Think they would rather take Russell or Mudiay however, they have put themselves in position to suck for another couple of years, and it could be a PG in other drafts as well
On top of that, they have plenty of draft picks to pull of multiple trades that teams will have trouble saying NO to
By 2017 when they will have an additional 20m to spend, they will have many draft picks and players in cheap/minimum contracts like Covington/Grant/Sampson/Hollis Thompson and many others to go with the improvements of Noel/Embid
If Philly can convince 3 ALL STARs to go over in 2017, they could be the TOP Eastern Conference team for the next 15years after, they have put themselves in that position
They likely will have some Euro STashes, and continue to process of recycyling assets that Morey has done the past couple of years but with even more Assets
Hinkie has taken a page out of OKC and Houston and their GM's, they will have a lot of talent, however, will they be willing to keep their talent as they will all want to be paid, sooner or later
If we trade our pick for anything less than Lebron, Durant, or Anthony Davis I'm done. I won't be able to take it anymore.
We cant trade our pick. Anyway havent we traded enough picks for one lifetime? Its time to use the draft to build instead of throwing away picks like candy. As bad as it is next year our pick is gone and we got nothing to show for it

What about trading it for Rose? Ha!

We can trade our pick at the draft right after we make it. I am somewhat terrified that the Knicks will do something stupid in a "win now" move a la the Antonio McDyess trade which crippled the team for a decade.

there really is no point to trade it since most likely we will get Okafor towns russell or mudiay

this is a team has traded a first round pick for Andrea Bargnani, trading two unprotected first round picks for Eddy Curry, traded two first round picks for Melo, trading a lotto pick for Antonio McDyess... this team under Dolan has never valued the draft. if they are dumb and in "win now" mode... I bet it's something they'll consider. Remember - they're very dumb.

i agree they are very dumb. However if they trade a top 3 or 4 pick it would more than dumb it would be retarded

Do not insult sick people... with all their issues they are much smarter that Dolan and Co.
The term Dolanizm means being stupid beyond believe and comprehension.
This phenomena is studied by psychologists and anthropologists but no analogy was found in human history.

It would certainly be the last straw for me as well (at least until new ownership).
That said, I don't think Jax works that way. His mama dint raise no foo!

agreed.
Just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting to trade a #1 or 2 pick for a vet/player. I was looking at trading down/swapping to 3-5 if it landed us an additional pick or young talent we were desiring. While I would go with Okafor if we land the number 1, I could live with Towns or Russell and an extra first round pick (if possible). There are a lot of late lottery talents and late first rounders that I think could pan out in the long term (eg D.Christmas). Appreciate the responses!
For the first time in forever the Knicks have a legit chance at a top 3 pick. This years draft has more impact players at the top than last year did. However its not as deep so moving down even for an extra pick later might actually be worse. Phil knows that and even if we could trade the pick( which we cant until we make it) why would he get rid of impact players such as okafor towns or russell
Got ya TripleThreat, the idea came off when I read something about the Sixers really wanting Mudiay. I thought if we postured like we would consider him (at #2), and the Sixers were picking 3 or 4 - we could squeeze something out of them and still land Towns, Okafor or Russell. You're right - it's a statistical inprobability and unlikely. Always think about how the Knicks get screwed for having a bad poker face when they have a decent draft pick (eg S.Curry) - hoping they play the hand well this time.

It wasn't a bad poker face, the Knicks ( Walsh) were telling everyone before the draft how badly they wanted Curry. Just dumb. One of the things I like about Phil is that you really don't hear what is going on. The Tyson trade and JR Smith trades went down without hearing anything about them beforehand

I'm actually a proponent of something like this, and have posted about it, but everything has to be perfectly aligned, and depends on who Jackson really wants for the Knicks, and whether there is a player Philly feels they MUST have.
We have to be selecting earlier than them, obviously, but Jackson would also have to play some mind games with Philly so they believe we want the guy they covet the most.
Possible...yes; Probably...no, but there are some decent players in this draft who can fill some roles on the Knicks, and it would behoove Phil to look for the swap that gives us one of the bigs we want, and another later lottery pick that will makes us feel a little better about not having a #1 next year.

MDA was kissing Curry's feet, if I remember correctly.
The team that really f'd up, though, was Minnesota, who took both Rubio and Flynn before Curry was selected.
I have studied this draft thick and thin.
Its pretty simple to me. Throughout round 1 possibly all the way down to 30-37 you will be ale to find quality big men. Where we sit on top --of the HIGHEST quality potential franchise changing qualities. That is why i suggested going all in on this draft and acquiring another #1 IF it makes sense in how the draft unfoldswe can "potentially" rebuild the frontcourt for years AND both players are cost restricted for 4 which is also nice.
In round 2 there is a BEVY of guards who have good chances of panning out very well in the NBA. Im sure fishmike and a few others remember way back when I called for the Knicks to take Michael Redd on the old Knicks forums and we ended up taking Lavar Postell #39 in 2000 yep 15 years ago.
Well there are good 2 guards(also combo which is what we might want) in this second round. Any Micahel redd's doubt that but there is going to be teams who score BIG in RD 2 in the guard DEPT.
I like that we tried last year--I like that we made an attempt and were focused on players and were able to actually pin out the ones we wanted. I think it's clear both players are 2nd round skill players at this point--so far nothing earned but the attempt but to me thats ok. We continued to try and brought in Wear than galloway--both worthy chances at it looks like we might have got 1 nice player. Thats probably the correct ratio anyway thats your odds in round #2 probably 25%. I think the odds in this 2nd round may be higher--perhaps as 1/3 and even undrafted. There will be 1 out of every 3 players who make the NBA longer term and help clubs and out of those 10-12 2-3 should be really good.
