That should be the target for free agency for the PG. Everyone else cost too much or is no where near as good. He's a professional high quality NBA PG.
We cant pay other PGs what they want(and some are either not worth it or cant shoot)--but Mo should be available for a reasonable sum. We can try to find an additional big PG in either the bottom half of rd 1 or even into rd 2 if we can acquire an additional pick and keep Shevyd on the roster but we need a pro PG. We need a professional QB. If we want to get better--we need a pro PG in this nBA triangle this or not.
He would qualify as a "floor general" I will give you that. He's very small and has lost a couple steps. Whats the deal? When both are healthy the upgrade over Calderon isnt that big. What we really need is the Jose that played for Dallas last year. You know.. the guy we traded for.
Mo is probably the most underrated pg in the nba. I want him in the team too. I think he will bring alot of experience, leadership and testicular fortitude. Very sneaky move at pg
Mo Williams kicking ass again tonight. I think most fans just go with what they have heard what might be in vogue. We have the $ leverage to bring in Williams and hopefully the 2 and round of the draft can find us a nice athletic prospect. Mo Williams should be very high on our list
Would he be another JR smith here?
I don't think the player you are seeing in Charlotte is the real Mo Williams. Since the trade he has been phenomenal, but his 23.4 PER is not sustainable. No way, no how. Otherwise, he is a rather middling to below average PG. I won't say no way, no how, because we need someone to run the point and don't necessarily need an all star at every position, but for my money, my first attempt is to pull Beverley from Houston. I bet Houston matches $7M, but thats my offer to Beverley.

Time to say no to aging veterans and paying them into their decline phase.
I won't say no to aging veterans, I would just use the Vet's minimum to sign them after I used my cap space.

1) He's 32 years old.
2) He is a poor defender ( I think I just insulted poor defenders around the world by adding Mo Williams to their ranks)
3) He is more of a combo guard than a pure PG, and giving him minutes stunts the development of the ONE young Knick who has shown some actual long term future potential on the team ( Langston Galloway)
Can Mo Williams help *A" NBA team? Absolutely.
Can he help the current and future Knicks in terms of rebuilding this franchise? No.
I say it again and again, some folks are always looking for the magical quick fix, the half year or one year or two year shot in the dark turnaround when the Knicks are going to likely have to grind it out and sacrifice for the 5-7 years that most other contenders right now had to pay in terms of dues, to get to a better place.
Time to say no to aging veterans and paying them into their decline phase.
+1
Great analysis.
I just gotta say, worrying about stunting galloway growth is the mentality that got us here in the first place. I wouldn't worry about galloway. He's a ball player. Mo williams would be great playing behind him off the bench if we can't get someone to play ahead of galloway.
Mo williams should be on our list when we start to fill out the roster. He is a combo guard and he can score with the best of them. We need that type of talent coming off the bench. I think he would come here too.
What is galloway ceiling? He's not going to be Gary payton. The guy is going to be charlie ward basically. You don't stop trying to get better so you don't stop a guy from turning into a mediocre player.
The right course would be to think about team. You sign mo williams to be the back up. If galloway loses minutes to him that's on galloway. We're not playing cyo basketball. We're not trying to teach 11 year Olds that is ok to lose and still give then a trophy. This is a pro game. If a man comes along and intimidates another man enough to take his spot away then that man is a bitch and deserves it. Regardless it makes the team better.
Again we are not in the business of trying to make galloway sleep well at night. We're trying to win a championship. We need to get better not run a group home
Btw... Philly traded KD McDaniels cuz they are stupid. The potential in that kid is too great to throw him away like that. That's why Philly sucks.
To add if we were to sign Dragic, would you care if we stunted galloway growth? Knicks need to get better not coddle role players
Its pretty simple. Mo Williams is a high quality cheap professional pg we need. The way to get better fast is to find 8-9 players who can play together who all have the ability to get into double digits every night and are also willing passers and play team defense. We have so many holes for us to compete we have to spread it around yet also stay flexible. What mo is
s doing for Charlotte right now is the exact thing we need. Consistent scoring and quality qbing from the pg position who helps get everyone involved. Right now he's playing like an all star peak level. Even one level down would be fantastic. Saying someone is 32 I don't care I'm not commiting 40 mm to any player. And people are crazy now Mo Williams wouldn't be backing up Langston Galloway it would give and hopefully another athletic guard prospect a chance to develop at a normal pace as back ups
I don't like his game. I would pass

I can totally respect that.

Because KJ didn't sign the Hinkie special deal. He day one wanted to play for other team.

I'm not opposed to Mo at all, but its interesting that you like him a lot but hate Calderon. Really the way you described him can easily describe Calderon, although Calderon is overpriced of course. But there isn't a whole lot of difference between these 2 players, although obviously you are going to disagree with me. Just not sure how much of an upgrade eating Calderon's contract and replacing with Mo helps the team. Calderon is a better shooter, better passer, higher IQ for this team, and both are terrible defenders and shot creators. Mo is a better all around scorer but that's about it.

Jose c and mo Williams are not even closely related. After Charlotte's 6 the win in 8 games their coach said even when kemba comes back mo will remain the starter. The month of February mo Williams could be considered player of the month. You see how playing with a post who demands huge attention does for other players? That's why it's so important that we get either towns or ok4 . We really need some punch. You start adding guys like Williams Stuckey Carroll these guys are great complimentary players to star players. When we step back and look at what we are we are a team full of immense holes. We need to move our cash around and find players who play above their contracts. We can't pay above 7 mm for anyone not named lebron gasol or Aldridge. If you can tell me why we shouldn't do this explain it to me w the players u might want and their cost.
I don't get the Calderón/mo williams comparison. Mo williams scored 50 in a game this year. That ends all comparison. Mo williams can score. Calderón cannot. At least not anymore
I'd like to hear 1 person tell me what player we could get for comparable cost that would have anyone near the impact Williams could give. I mean just 1.
I think that's the point. There is no supply on PGs right now. So for me, before you draft big, maybe you make sure you have a PG under contract. Just cause you want him doesn't mean he signs.
