Knicks · Trading down in the draft (page 1)

I know it's blasphemy but what if Boston offers their 2 1st round picks for our Pick? What if a team like phoenix offers Bledsoe and their pick? What if Orlando offers olidipo and their pick?

It's not that far fetched because alot of people believe Okafor is the real deal. They will offer anything for him. I personally im still on the fence with the kid. If a team is offering a kings ransom i would be tempted to take the loot. Getting a pick and a good player or two good picks is tempting.

StarksEwing1 @ 3/7/2015 7:32 AM
Another one of these threads. First off we cant trade our pick at least until after we pick it. Secondly we are in good position to get the big 3 or 4 prospects. The rest of the draft is more role players

First of all I'm the one that probably started the last thread about this subject.

Secondly the homeless guy that lives in my home train station knows we can't trade the pick before the draft. Nobody can because the trade deadline is over. Nobody can make moves until the draft not just the Knicks.

3rdly we are getting a top 4 pick that's why I said teams will give a kings ransom

We finally have a top 4 pick that we don't owe to another team - I want to grab the player that is gonna be Gasol, while someone else grabs a Curry. I want a Paul, while someone takes a Marvin. I just want this team to take the right guy & let someone else screw up. If this Towns is anything like D. Cousins, I really hope we get him & he does some monster numbers. Not only have these NKY teams sucked for a decade, they've been real boring. No way we trade for any sort of depth of picks/players.

I just hope they don't screw it up.

the point is even though i feel this draft has more potential all star players its not that deep. We need a player like russell okafor or towns. This draft is too important. Lets face it for 15 years we have traded our picks and lived to regret it
NYKBocker @ 3/7/2015 8:50 AM
Towns or Okafor or bust. Please no trade downs. They can trade for Melo if they want.

I am ALL FOR trading "potential" for "proven" talent so, to answer your question, if Phoenix or Orlando come knocking with the offers you mentioned, then YES.

OK4, Towns and Russell COULD be stars in the league...Bledsoe, in many eyes, is already a star and Olidipo is well in his way. And on top of that, we get 1st pick round pick. sign me up.

Do one I won't consider is trading our top of three for multiple 1st round picks. Aside from the 3 I mentioned, I don't think the talent in this years draft is that deep. At the end of the day..whatever happens, I really hope that PJax and his staff are doing their homework.

Hector @ 3/7/2015 8:53 AM
haha, I just did this mock lottery slot machine deal - Phila got Okafor at #1

Knicks had #2 & took....Mudiay (Towns went 3 to The Lakers.)

NYKBocker @ 3/7/2015 9:00 AM
Now. If we get the 1st pick and Sixers get the 2nd pick and they really want Okafor to partner up with Noel then I would take their pick and select Towns, Embiid and their other 1st round pick. I only do trade downs up to the 3rd spot accompanied by a boatload of talent and picks. Assuming we get the 1st pick.

yeah that is a different story. If we trade down from 1 to 3 we can still get russell or towns plus more. However despite okafor being regarded as the top pick both russell and towns are considered to be just as highly regarded
Hector @ 3/7/2015 9:10 AM
I don't think Phila is giving up Embiid. If anything, they need Russell or Mudiay.

Noel's been killing it lately, really stepping up so far.

I know, they got 2nd, 3rd, 4th - each time took Mudiay - when they finally got 1st, it was Okafor.

Knicks1969 @ 3/7/2015 1:59 PM
I would trade that pick only if it is pick #5 and up
Knixkik @ 3/7/2015 2:01 PM
You don't trade down for a player who is not a star. If you trade the pick for someone like Cousins, that's one thing, but getting a lower pick and a good but not great player isn't the answer. This pick needs to turn into a great player, meaning we either draft that great player or trade it for someone who is a great player. And i don't mean any great player, just one that makes sense and is younger, such as Cousins. But the list of those types of players is short. I will however trade down 1 or 2 slots, if we have a specific player we know will be available. For example, if we want Towns and know swapping the 1st pick for the 3rd pick will still land us Towns, and we can additional compensation like a draft pick or solid young rotation player, its probably worth it.
FistOfOakley @ 3/7/2015 2:07 PM
if it's top 3... they should only be trading up...

Mudiay is by far the second best player in the draft. If you just observe his speed and athleticism you will take him over Russell. To me it's a easy choice Ok4 one Mudiay two Towns three and Russell four.

+1

There's no way I'm trading out of the top 3 in exchange for a player who might make an All-Star game one day and an end of the lottery pick. This isn't football where being above average across the board makes you a Superbowl contender. To win a title you need elite, MVP-caliber talent. I believe Towns is that, Russell might be, and Okafor could be.

I'd agree. Phila will definitely take that kid & if not, Russell.

Any one of Okafor, Towns, or Mudiay is good to me. Which probably means we get Russell. I hope he's as good as advertised!

russell is the real deal. Towns and okafor as good as they are have the benefit of playing with very good teams. Russell in my opinion really carries his team which is impressive
