David Lee picK # 29/30 to GS for Jose Calderon. Instead of the Knicks stretching him it would give GS 8mm in relief(and they can stretch him as well making that up to 12.5mm). It would reduce our FA this year by 8.9mm(lee 8mm 30 draft pick .9) but it would give us a solid player for a year who's legs have been rested and is capable of 20-10-4 and a second pick in rd 1. Wed still have roughly 18mm to spend and the following year we'd have upwards of 50mm.

Calderon's contract is longer than Lee's. I doubt GS is desperate enough to do this. They'd probably use the stretch clause that you always talk about on Lee before taking back Calderon and giving up a pick.
I would do that it's to good a deal from the Knicks stand point. But would GS do that? A
I'm not sure that deal is even possible. Because GS is over the cap and they'd be taking back salary in the deal the salaries need to match. It would definitely work if we don't send them any players in return.
It might be possible that it could be a non-simultaneous trade where they send David Lee and a 1st and we send a future 2nd. That should create a traded player exception for GS that they could use to trade for Calderon. Not really sure though, non-simultaneous trades and TPEs are pretty confusing.
If we were to do a trade like this I wouldn't want their 1st round pick this year which will be, at worst, the 29th pick. I'd want a future 1st in the hopes that they're worse that season.

Yep they could stretch him at 5.175 for 3 years. Add in the draft pick and that's 6.07. Trading for Calderon and stretching him would be 3.1mm per year for 5. Si that would save them 9mm in luxury taxes for 2015-2016.

Right--I think two picks are more than fair if its straight up. One thing the trade would give us is Lee who is a 20-10-4 player--even if its for 1 year and the extra draft picks. If we did it straight---stretching calderon ourselves wed still have 19mm in FA $
I would do it. That means we pray we get Towns cause defense of jazz hands and Ok4 would be too inviting for the other team

If they're trying to save money, they can always trade the pick for a future pick or a 2nd rounder. There are better solutions than taking Calderon.

I doubt they would do it because they already have a back up PG but I guess this would be a trade to save them money in taxes after they potentially max out Green. If they do not make any moves they will have $94-96m on the books if they give Green the $16.5m max. They also have Justin Holiday QO that will increase their cap hold even more if they extend him an offer plus their draft pick will cost them just under a $1m. In theory they are just trying to save money for one year until the Cap goes up.
They had trade discussions with Utah and I imagine Lee will go there most likely.
Honestly, I'd rather try to do a similar deal with Charlotte for Stephenson for a future 1st or Noah Vonleh. That wouldn't take on as much cap space as David Lee would so the Knicks could actually put out two offer sheets to near max RFAs

Why would they do that when they already have more than 2 PGs on their roster? Furthermore, Jose is old and can't play the uptempo style of GS. He fits well with Dallas, because of Dirk; and, would fit nicely in Memphis.
