Is this guy a free agent--I cant seem to figure it out? Sorry his last name is spelled Barton. Hes roughly 6-6 and 23 years old.
NardDogNation@ 3/16/2015 10:53 AM
I approve this message. I liked his game since his Portland days. He even seemed like he could run a little point. I'd sign both he and his best friend, Thomas Robinson.

He's someone to keep on the radar with our perimeter defensive problems. He might be a cheaper alternative to Demare Carrol who might be becoming to expensive. He can do a little bit of everything and hes got some real nice upside. Would give us someone who could lock down on a guard out of unit 2 but has upside to one day see unit 1. I just like the way he played against us and caught him again in that NOP game where he played very well.

OMG. burton sucks. i question his decision making and his shooting sucks. to me he shouldnt even be in the NBA. hes a DLeague talent playing on an awful team
CrushAlot@ 3/17/2015 7:13 AM
He is a free agent after this year. Also, if you use other stuff on the tool bar you can link to trade checker, hoopshype salaries and lots of other good stuff to find things like this out.

You know, if we could get Will Barton -- that dude's one heck of a talent. Not sure I see DeMarre Carroll though, unless you were talking production-wise. Carroll's more of an Al Harrington/JaMychal Green/DeShawn Sims type of player (a hybrid 3/4, can shot the 3 etc.); Barton's pretty much a straight up SG/maybe some SF with that 6'6" height + length depending on matchups.. Regardless, good call on the talent alone...You guys see this dude play man -- absolute maestro with the ball/crazy good handle for a 2, very shifty, deceptive athleticism, decent spot up shooter out to 3 and despite the thin-looking frame (might even be thinner than Alexey Shved) he goes hard to the rim and finishes very well. Looks like a real 'give me the damn ball and let me go to work' type of player. Just watching a highlight clip and one of the Denver announcers made an Allen Iverson comparison. Kinda reminds me of Jamal Crawford with some Corey Brewer (not quite as tall as Brewer but equally long and lanky). Has a great scorer's instinct. Some guys like a Jamal Crawford just have that innate ability to put the ball in the hole. This guy has that. Looks like a bit of a freelancer with some questionable shot selection at times though (similar to JR Smith), so I don't know if he's necessarily a Phil Jackson/triangle guy but I like him. I could see him being a real nice 6th man/instant offense weapon, maybe even a starting 2G for some team. He's exciting to watch.
I like Barton's game a lot -- problem is he's a RFA so like a lot of these top FAs on the market, he'd be difficult to get. I can't picture Denver letting him get away, much like we probably won't let Shved get away. Some similar guys I've seen play that definitely wouldn't cost as much: Orlando Johnson, Kevin Murphy, Dominique Jones, Doron Lamb. I get mentioning guys like Stuckey, Barton, retaining Shved etc.. We're looking at some quality SGs there, no question. Problem is they're gonna cost...I don't know if diverting a lot of money at 2G is really the right move. My feeling on the SG upgrade going back several weeks now -- let's come up with our own Stuckey, our own Barton etc. I honestly believe we can come up with similar if not better talent at a nominal cost. I'd much rather divert our money toward a big PG upgrade and/or a whole frontcourt revamp, again--depending on what I got in the draft..

Boy did I peg this one--this alone was better than all of our FA combined.

This was a good call. Barton has been great this season. Every time I've seen Denver I've been impressed by him. I actually looked up his free agency status first time I saw him play this season.
He was RFA last summer - could've been hard to get if Denver wanted him. But you're right, he'd be the best guard on our roster if he was a Knick.

We paid 8mm for Affalo. Im starting to feel everything other than KP and resigning Lance Thomas(who has earned nBA time as a quality bench guy for the $) has been a fail. Can you imagine if Carmelo got his way and we had Trey Lyles?
callmened@ 12/29/2015 1:46 AM
he signed a 3 yr contract over the summer. he is not a free agent
he sucked for yrs in portland...even when he had opportunities. no one could have anticipated that he would grow up and take his talents seriously. most NBA rosters are full og players with talent. the issue is staying health, practicing your craft and getting the opportunity. to credit he has done that.
reminds me of corey brewer 2.0 - still undisciplined but much improved

yep that was last yr when he SUCKED - and i stand by those words (dont try to make me look like a fool - lol). he had no skills, couldnt shoot defend, etc etc. he was just a physical talent running around like a chicken with his head cut off. to his credit he has improved. more disciplined. i only go by what i see at the time - and at that time he was horrible. denver got lucky with a STEAL - theres a reason why no one really wanted him as a free agent last summer. anyone who predicted that he would turn his career around shouldnt be the knicks GM, they should be playing the lotto
for example, right now with clea early, i dont see a player who belongs at this level (he reminds me of barton on portland). he has the physical gifts but he plays and looks lost - but then again theres no opportunity to play. would it surprise me if he goes to another team and turns it around. a light switch goes off and hes put in a system to take advantage of his gifts...NOPE...would it surprise me if hes goes to another team, struggles and then gets cut again...and then is out of the nba in 4 yrs. NOPE. you never know with players. so many factors - many are internal (work ethic, confidence etc). thats why i dont predict the future or claim to be some expert. all i do is give my opinion on what i see

He was a free agent last year albeit restricted. Nah he doesnt sck in fact hes close to an all star level player right now. Many DEnver fans think hes their best player.
BRIGGS@ 2/23/2016 5:54 PM
Player we couldve had at SG for 5 years CHEAP instead of the move for the aging Affalo.
CrushAlot@ 2/23/2016 6:22 PM
Pretty sure this is the third bump of the day. Can we stop there?

How did he find him when we've already talked about him on here?? He was part of the deal for Portland to get Afflalo.
