Travis Wear - no reason not to keep. He's a league min guy, knows the system now, plays hard, defends, etc etc.. Of Acy/LThomas/Wear I like Wear the best.
Jason Smith - really puzzling. Is he the poor man's Mike Doleac most of us saw early in the year? Because he's played pretty well in the 2nd half. This one comes down to cost for me... if we whiff on better players I would welcome back Smith under a similar reasonable deal.

The FAs will 100% on who we draft so Ill hold off for now.

I can go either way on Larkin--I think he still holds promise a s a guy who can hit the three play quick as a third PG. If you notice his salary is 900k. I dont love keeping Timmy H but in this line up we need a 3 pt shooter and Tim would be fine for 1 more shot. Id probably play all 5 bigs every game. I would ask too much from Towns in year 1 minutes wise even thought Id like to see him earn the starting spot as a shotblocker/rebounder. I like Wear too--depends on who /what we do in the draft---other rotation s pots might be taken by Thansis or the other foreign player and or rookie draft picks we may acquire so for now I have him as out.

The simple truth is that group has to be upgraded. Individually, there is some nice talent. But collectively, they have too many holes. Its a numbers game and some must leave/go.

Amundson, too. Aldrich, too. Those are blue collar lunch pail guys you want at the end of your bench.

I don't trust Bargnani - but have to admit, he looks good in the Triangle.

As for FA - it really depends on what happens in the draft. There aren't many guards in FA that I like. A lot of solid bigs though.

Alexy Shved is doing well in NY but this is not a Lin situation where his market is going to go up. A 2yr deal with the second yr optional would be okay. The knicks will retain his bird rights then can sign him to a larger contract in 2016 after he proves he will dedicate himself to the gym and his craft(shooting/decision making).

Lou Amundson is a 32 year old hustle player. You do not give out money from your cap for guys like him. He is a vet minimum guy. Also, next year will be his 10th year. The Vet min. for 10 yr vets will be just under $1.5m. So, why hurt yourself by giving an extra 300k?

Cole Aldrich can barely play 2 minutes with out turning fuchsia. He is another vet minimum player and is definately not worth $3m.

Bargs sucks.

Now you just wasted $7m for the center position when you could potentially spend $7m on Kostos Koufos.

Larkin unfortunately seems to short to play the pg in the triangle. He has problem with post entry passes.

Kanter no.

Will Barton is a now because you do not try to outbid Denver for that kind of player.

They need a serious talent influx in the backcourt. If we got D'Angelo Russell... that'd be pretty nice.

I still have this weird feeling that Lance Stephenson would be a perfect player for NY, the Triangle and as a Melo running mate. I'm guessing he could he had in a cap space trade. Maybe Hardaway for Lance straight up? We can absorb the salary. Yeah, he's a headcase, but Phil kind of thrives on having headcases on the team sometimes. (Rodman, Artest, etc) Weirdly, I think Melo kind of thrives on that, too. As long as its the right kind of headcase. I have this weird feeling Lance is the right kind. When he's locked in, he's one of the best two way SGs in the league.

You start Galloway and Lance and then bring Shved in as the third guard. Could be good.

I'm in favor of building a sort of power team around Melo. Bully ball.

I kinda agree and think we may be best off with Russell in the draft - and while its early to give up on Hardaway, I'd be open to moving him just to try to clear out the backlog of marginal backcourt talent.

My guess is that Bargnani will not sign a 1 year $4 Million deal and will opt to go play in Europe when he finds the Money/contracts have dried up in the NBA. I would not commit to Larkin for 2 more years based on what he's shown. There is no reason to sign a 3rd string PG to a multiple year agreement unless he shows great promise or your filling a need on a very good team. I like what Shved has brought to the table so far, but to commit to him for 4 years based on a 13 game audition with the Knicks is too impulsive. I might go 2 years with a team option on the 3rd. What do you see in Aldrich that would make you want to commit a roster spot for 3 more years?

Further - I would like to see what Thanesis can do on the roster next year.

Calderon has had a nightmare year. Do we make the same mistake we made with Tyson and sell low (or just stretch him) ???

Year before last he was the starter on a 50 win Dallas team and played very well. If there is a guy to wait and see on its Jose.

Galloway/Shved are keepers. If Larkin is around for 900k next year fine.

I honestly see OKC knocking out Golden State in the first round of the playoffs if that's the 1/8 matchup in the West and OKC is finally healthy.

I would take Monroe before Kanter. Why do you suddenly start Hardaway over Stuckey, who you have been crazy about? And what about Ajinca? How good do you think Shved is at this point at well, is he good enough to be a starting PG in this league?

Kanter would be a good pick up, but he is restricted and the match factor will come into play. The player to target would be Milsap he would really fit well in a three player rotation at the Pf/C position if Bargs is kept. Hopefully we draft Ok4 but if the Knicks end up picking between Mudiay and Russell I pray they take the better of the two which IMHO is Mudiay. If we end up drafting a guard then make a strong push for Kanter and really max him out to lock him up. If we end up with a line up of:

Bargs don't rebound enough for me but there are not too many 14-6 power forwards out there in free agency.
His injury's are bothersome.
Im sure we'd all like think he owes us and will sign for 4mm but he will have options.
What might he have? He can go back to europe for more money and less games to play.
His ex coach in italy is Messina who is assitant for San Antoinio. Spurs usually are looking for the right kind of player with a tougher makeup than him but, for the right money, to be in a smaller media friendly market and settle in to a primarily interational squad with his ex coach and Buddy Bellinni if Duncan retires he'd get major minutes next to Splitter who will rebound and do the muscle work.
Then we can say "F--kin Spurs"............and lament letting him go.

Now, since its not me or anyone here who decides this the problem is what is the nature of his injury problems and is it fixible. The kid has talent and has had bad stretches of games missed, but so have many others who came back and had long careers with fewer misses.

That's why I think they should use the cap space as trade leverage. Get Lance from Charlotte.

They should really be treating the core of the team as Melo and the draft pick. Build a team that accentuates those two core pieces. They aren't going to be able to hit a home run in FA, I don't think. Build pieces. Get a lot better next season. Maybe hit a home run in 2016 in FA when the cap goes up.

Doesn't Lance take up a boatload of cap space though?

I do not want to see THJ on this team next year. We can find guards who only defend and hit 3's at a much better clip consistently. THJ doesn't excel at anything.

so basically you are saying that his problem is injuries but when he has played in his career he has been a good player??

He has been a terrible player and his numbers show that. He has been a big fat negative sum player and obviously a gross player based on the dough that he was stealing.

We don't bring Bargs back for more than 4 mil. Can commit big money to guys who can't stay healthy. Need to sign guys who have a history of good health most seasons.

He sucks because he doesn't play defense rebound or score efficiently nor does he pass well enough to help the offense. He sucks because when players are guarded by him they score more easily and rebound more. He sucks because when he plays the team usually are in the negative. He sucks because he is injury prone. The saying the best ability is availability and Bargs is rarely available. When you have money tied up in a player that isn't a positive player that can't even play would be silly.

Yes, he can look good one game or two games but what about the other games when he is consistantly poor

stephensen is sort of interesting.. but it's a risk you can only take if you are capped out and need to unload another contract... i just don't think he's interested in being any good tho...
