Knicks · we should have grabbed Thomas Robinson (page 1)

He's playing really really well in Phili. We could still get him in the offseason but he's really showing something.

Might be a cheaup prospect with upside.

We couldnt- 76ers claimed him off waivers so they could meet the minim salary threshold. I'm always curious why he puts up good stats but only seems to get 15mins- been that way on each team he played for.

ahhh... I thought he was a 10 day contract. My bad. Is he still in his rookie deal then? He was like the 5 pick a few years ago, he may still be under contract then

IMO gotta give him more of a role. One thing that has helped Amundson has been that they treat him like any other player. He's posting in the Triangle and making passes. If he's open he takes the shot even if he's not the best at it. It just allows a player like that to be able to stay on the floor. Often hustle guys don't really have a role in the offense and it makes it hard to keep them on the floor.

It's a shame- we really need some front court bench players, and it would have been nice to try him out.

Agreed. He may never live up to being a top lottery pick (then again, he very well may -- who knows) but I think his floor is something close to Ken Faried eventually with steady mins. and a defined role, something he hasn't had yet as a pro...There's a good chance he could be something more than Faried...He was worth investigation imho... I don't know how in the world we didn't view him as a better option than Lou Amundson, for the present and future. At the absolute least, we already know he hustles/plays very hard & brings everything Lou Amundson brings to the table + so much more, just on the youth/potential alone. Skill level & potential is so much higher than Amundson's--it's apples and oranges...What, we already signed Amundson for the rest of the year? Who cares... For the peanuts we owe Lou for the remainder, we waive him and bring in T-Rob. Absolute no brainer...If I we're Phil and Dolan refused to waive Amunsdon (I have a funny feeling Dolan's very much a guy that isn't willing to waive players and eat money for the greater good) -- you explain to him that we needed to field a team at the time but if better players open up, roster adjustments need to be made on the fly and we may need to spend a little more. If he didn't go for that--F it, I would've put the cash up myself to waive Amundson. WTF -- we wanted JaMychal Green at one point but didn't want Thomas Robinson?!? WTF is the difference? Both are similar young players with bright futures. T-Rob might wind up being the better of the two. Both are light years better than Lou Amundson.

yeah, i really wanted Thomas Robinson.

sigh.

I guess Philly GM wins this battle

Thought we should've pushed to acquire him eons ago. I think he'd be a good fit next to Melo because he can defend either forward spot and had something of a decent midrange shot in college.

During this past offseason, I thought we should've looked to liquidate Amare's value as an expirer to get the assets to acquire him. Amare to the Celtics for Gerald Wallace, Brandon Bass, Keith Bogan's non-gaurnateed contract should've worked. Then we could have flipped Brandon Bass and the right's to Thansis Antetokounmpo for Thomas Robinson, Will Barton and filler; maybe even use that Keith Bogan's contract, Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown to pick up Jarrett Jack, Tyler Zeller, Sergei Karasavi and the Cavs 2016 1st rounder. Unfortunately though, we got Phil Jackson running the show.
