Knicks · Are Phil and Fisher on the same page??? (page 1)

For this organization to be successful, those two have to be on the same page. However, I read several articles in which it appears that there is a disconnect between the two. Phil will go out and say one thing, when Fish is asked about Phil's comments, his response often appeared to be opposite of what Phil has said.

With one tweet, Phil Jackson managed to throw his coach and team under the proverbial bus while also violating James Dolan’s sacred media policy.

The last Hall of Fame coach to achieve the rare Triple Crown at Madison Square Garden was Larry Brown and we all know how that ended.

The worst season in the history of the franchise took another bizarre turn when Jackson, the NBA’s all-time highest paid executive, sent out two cryptic tweets in the wake of the Knicks losing their seventh straight on Sunday. Jackson neither deleted the tweets from his verified Twitter account nor did he address his comments with the media on Monday.

Instead, it was left to Derek Fisher, as if he doesn’t have enough issues on his plate, to have to answer for his boss.

“You guys should call Jeanie (Buss) and ask her about that,” Fisher joked, referring to Jackson’s fiancé and Lakers Vice President. “She knows him much better than any of us do.”

At 10-45, the Knicks own the league’s worst record and the embarrassment of a season spiraling out of control may be getting the best of Jackson. Hours following the Knicks 101-83 loss to LeBron James and the Cavs on Sunday, Jackson sent out two tweets two minutes apart just after 10 p.m.

Knicks coach Derek Fisher distanced himself from Phil Jackson’s comments earlier this week in which the team president said he will know by December which players will master the triangle offense and which players won’t.
Jackson’s remarks appeared to be a warning that if a player is still struggling to get the complex offense by then, he could be dealt. The trade season kicks off Dec. 15, when all players are eligible to be dealt.
For his part, Fisher said that putting a date on when a player will get the triangle is not in his thinking. Each players learns it at his own pace.
“I don’t know if it’s a fair assessment or not,’’ Fisher said before the Knicks’ 97-95 loss Wednesday night to the Magic — their sixth straight defeat. “[Phil] obviously knows a lot about his offense, but I think it’s more than just a guy is going to get it. Each player and person has different learning curves. I don’t know if there’s a date.
“It’s more where our team is from a management standpoint. For me, I don’t have a date on when I would assume a guy should or shouldn’t have it. I’m going to coach him until he’s here or isn’t here. Those won’t be my decisions.’’
On Monday in his State-of-Zen Address, Jackson said: “There’s still quite a ways from their execution capabilities as a team. We think in terms of basketball-wise, Thanksgiving, December, it’s time to really say if you haven’t gotten it by now, maybe we’ll have to think of you as a learner or not a learner as a ballplayer at that time.’’
J.R. Smith, who scored 19 points, in particular, has seemed uncomfortable in the offense. Smith, who could have gained some redemption by hitting the final shot in Wednesday’s loss, is a big trade candidate and the Pacers have some interest.
Smith can opt out of his contract after the season, but he still could opt in, costing the Knicks cap space. They believe there is a strong market for Smith and aren’t looking to just dump him for an expiring contract, according to a league source.
Jose Calderon (calf) said he’s unlikely to be ready for practice Thursday, but indicated perhaps he will be after the weekend.

I don't mind the tanking, I just would hate to watch this team be a bottom feeder the next three years

Have to agree.
At this current moment, this team does nothing but play like garbage and there's no way Phil and Fisher aren't in agreement with that.

This season has been the first drama free season in years, so it's only natural some fans are having withdrawl symptoms and are having to go to great lengths to manufacture it.

The media has been stoking every possible minuscule bit of information they can to try and start problems for the Knicks. It's really sad to watch. They started not long after the initial fanfare of hiring Phil and haven't stopped since. They've continued to bash the Knicks as if they didn't know that Phil went into tank mode after the trade and Melo had his surgery. There's no mystery to what is going on. Phil and Fish talk daily about what's going on so I think this is a bunch of nonsense. Once the season is over a lot of this crap should slow down and we can get on with the process of revamping this roster. Can't wait.

Yup, all these people complaining about 10 wins or whatever had better not have the hypocrisy to then rejoice if we end up drafting a stud.

Those fans, annoying as it may be are suffering and entitled to rejoice in a drafting stud.

I just think it's a bit much at this point to still be going on about the season knowing what this is all about. I hate to see the Knicks lose but we need a top pick to start the process of rebuilding for the future. We have to lose in order to improve our odds of getting a top 4 pick. That's been the case now for a while.

Knicks1969 @ 3/31/2015 4:56 PM
The team is not terrible because we had a lack of talents nor because Phil ordered fisher to lose games
Moonangie @ 3/31/2015 6:06 PM
When tanking, success should be measured by the LOSS column, not the win column (unless from the standpoint of lower=better).

From my perspective (advocating that we tank), this season has been a perfect success. We will likely finish the season with the worst record, giving us a 25% chance at the top pick in one of the best draft classes ever, and a guaranteed top 4 pick.

Phil deserves kudos for enabling this to happen by ridding the team of any talent, maximizing our cap space, and getting us into position to draft Towns.

He gets an "A" from me this season. For those who would point to the Calderon trade I say this: "The object of that trade wasn't picking up Calderon, it was dumping a loser like Tyson who mailed it in on his team and teammates." Phil said he was going to get rid of those who didn't fit his idea of the sort of players he wanted. Then he got rid of Tyson, JR and Shump...all of whom (while certainly talented) played for themselves first. It was addition by subtraction.

Calderon was not a good pickup, but getting rid of Tyson who did not want to play here was a solid move.
