If we get Towns, I immediately look to trade him (with THJr and Cole Aldrich) to the T'Wolves for Gorgui Dieng and their pick. Hopefully Jahlil Okafor and D'Angelo Russell is still available to use it on one of them.
And if I can get Gorgui Dieng, I'd look to pair him with Carmelo Anthony and Jose Calderon in a package for the Lakers' 4th and 25th pick. I'd then try to pair those two picks up for either Jahlil Okafor or D'Angelo Russel; whichever guy we didn't get with the Wolves' pick.
From this point, my focus would be to try and develop Russell and Okafor as best I can in preparation for the Anthony Davis free agency sweepstakes in 2017. If we can have a trio of those players by that point, I'd like our chances to win a title. Until that point in time, however, I'd try to round out the team with:
1.) KJ McDaniels. He's a free agent this year and seems like he has the tools to be a noteworthy starter in the future. I'd throw big money/short term at him to see what he could do for us. I doubt the Rockets keep him otherwise.
2.) Jeremy Lamb, obtained using cash incentives and our cap space. The Thunder have Dion Waiters and no longer need him.
3.) Derrick Williams via free agency. I still believe in the kid. He's a solid defender, underrated passer and may still be the 20ppg scorer that he was destined to be. Lord know's we'd have more than enough shots available for him to take to prove that.
4.) Thomas Robinson via free agency. He reminds me of a very young David West/Bo Outlaw type. The guy has the talent but has never been given a shot because of an incoming (Dwight Howard) or incumbent star (LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMarcus Cousins).
5.) I'd also re-sign Alexey Shved, Langston Galloway,Louis Amundson, Lance Thomas and Ricky Ledo using $10 million or so of our cap space.
6.) With whatever cap space we'd have left, I'd use it to acquire bad contracts for draft picks. Those picks might prove to be invaluable if we can become legitimate contenders for Anthony Davus' services in free agency.
