For the money. If I'm Phil I'd convince Dolan to make Hakeem Olajuwon a ridiculous offer to come here and teach/mentor KAT full-time. Something he couldn't refuse..

Although money does make folks sell their souls, but I don't believe Olajuwon would ever leave his beloved Houston for the Knicks. You must not know how much tax newyorkers have to pay to leave in NY. Dolan need to swallow his pride and bring Ewing home. Kareem is a Newyorker and has worked with Phil in the past. He already has the blueprint of the triangle and coached several bigs to be effective in the system

Ive worked in NY for 15+ years now and dont pay taxes. There are easy ways around that. Many rich guys use homes in other states as tax shelters as well. This is so not a big deal.

I think Towns will have an adjustment period to the NBA.

Though I think the fact that he was in a platoon system in Kentucky might actually help him in the NBA. He's not used to be the featured "MAN" on the team. That, in my mind, might actually make his transition to the NBA easier. You platoon him in year one and tell him to go all out for 24 minutes a night.

But I agree - there are five guys at the top of the draft who can all be very very good. I think Towns and Russell have the most potential. And Okafor is obviously a potential centerpiece...

Tear down the other prospects? Why because I prefer Towns over all of them? Doesn't mean we will have the opportunity to draft Towns

yeah, agreed. I love Ewing as a Knick... but he doesn't strike me as a great coach - too quite and reserved. The best teachers are not necessarily the best performers and vice versa.

Kobe was coached by many; he would be the first to tell you that he often picks up the phone and calls a particular player to pick his brain about a series of things. He often calls other coaches (college, highschool, etc). There is a reason why a lot of these young kids have often failed to deliver on their potential; and too often that failure lies with the organization and coaching staff

yea.. saying OK4 will probably end up playing in Greece and is another Mike Sweetney is some of the dumbest posting I have ever read. It makes zero sense and simply tells me you have made up your mind and have no interest in real discussion. You have also literally made stuff up on the spot to support your views (Town's rebounding #s). Its fine. I hope for your own viewing pleasure and feel-goodedness we do get Towns. Every discussion Ive ever had on the subject I have said Towns is a great prospect and we would be lucky to get such a blue chip.

disagree all you want, but you stated exactly my point. Kobe wanted to learn so he took action. If Towns wants to learn better footwork he doesnt need Kareem to do that. Most JV coaches know how to teach that. Youtube vids can teach that. What makes a player LEARN it isnt the teacher, its the pupil.

You dont think Town's (or any othe player) have access to the resources they need to improve? I say he does. They all do. Its about work either and drive to be better.

i think it's partially on the player and partially on the organization.

Oh yeah; the player has a lot to do with his success. However, it is a trilogy (player, coaches, and organization).

Listening to Colin Cowherd. He just played a clip from coach K. analyzing OK4. He said he has great hands & great footwork but needs to improve his worth ethic to compete against the best in the NBA. Assuming he's talking about improving his conditioning and defense. Things we all already are aware of that raise red flags as a top 2 pick.

If Towns, Mudiay, Winslow and Russell are off the board and we draft OK4 I will be very happy and hopeful that he does improve on those areas. Just like I would hope Mudiay develops a killer jumper. However I think it's easier to develop a jumper than fix things between the ears. Ok4 has to have it in him to want to be great. Otherwise he will be just another Boozer, Eddy curry etc

That is Ok4's own coach speaking not me tearing him down. So go ahead Fish ignore the red flags if you wish. We'll talk about in a year

You brought me into this thread with your original comment. You are the only one who thinks its Towns of bust for me. It's all in your head. I've been posting my top 14 lottery picks all year

I think OK4 wants to be great but just may not realize what that takes yet. Sometimes young people think they're working hard but have no idea just how much more effort they have to put into it. I work with youth and have raised 3 children to adulthood myself and can tell you that young people often have no idea what constitutes hard work.

Hopefully OK4 will get with a pro trainer and that will make him more fully aware of what pros actually do to get in top shape. I'm pretty sure that this will happen before the combine and we'll see the best version of OK4 from this point forward.

Thats not what he said but OK. Question.. did coach K call him out on that? Ever? Like as in publicly during the season? Does Towns doesnt have that same red flag? Your worried about OK4's drive? I guess he was just a spectator during this last NCAA season?

Guns... these would be fair point if you applied the same to Towns. You dont. Towns has no red flags to you. Its Calipari's fault. Or the systems. 10 points and 7 boards for the season. B2B tourney games where he combined for 9 points and 8 fouls. Called out by Calipari for loafing during games and taking plays off... but your worried about the guy who won the title, lead his team in every category and was the featured played that every team devised a game plan around. But yea... there are clearly problems with OK4 between the ears. Zero logic dude. ZERO

Towns has upside. OK4 is what he is. ??????? Im sorry I thought both were 19 year old freshman. I mean this is stupid.. I could write a 600 page paper on the ridic things you have said about OK4 while shining the sparkle on Towns your golden mooby. Zero logic.

Oh.. and in case I failed to mention... Towns looks awesome. I give him every ounce of credit he deserves.

i like Towns but those Highlights were weak, imo. He didn't look that explosive when attacking the rim. It looked like a long arm guy reaching for the rim. I mean his head stays near the bottom of the nets when he dunks. Then on his post moves its all bully ball/chicken wing/hooks. That's great against undersized players but boy will he have to learn fast.

what I like is his physical attributes and body type. He might be able to translate bully ball into his pro game as he matures and develop real moves. What is also appealing is his possible shooting ability. If he has a jumper it would real set him apart.

In a way, he reminds me of a taller Nene, I think Nene was a better athlete(pre_injury/cancer) but there body types and offensive games could be similar. Towns is more defensive minded which is great. I just hope he has a greatness motor that Nene lacks. Nene kind of has that Rasheed Wallace type mind set where he is comfortable being the other guy. That's not really a bad thing but they could have been greats if their mindsets matched their physical abilities and skill.

Webber went to school for two years. Duncan for three. They came into the league ready to dominate.

Can you imagine how good Towns and Okafor would be if they went to college for two or three years? They'd be unstoppable as rookies.

There's a lot these kids lose by losing that second and third year. They have to get better under the spotlights with a lot of money at stake as their rookie contract starts ticking right away.

Didn't Calipari call out Towns for lack of effort this season? Coaches calling out their players like that is a motivational technique.
