No because we need multiple players. Keep the pick and you can add a talent via the draft AND then use a max on a free agent, where as if you trade for boogie, you've already blown your max. I like him as a player though. I suspect he goes to Boston- they are loaded with stuff to trade.

Exactly.
Knicks need to add two all-star level players - one through the draft and one through FA. Trading the pick for Cousins is the wrong kind of 2-for-1 for this team.

I would do it only if they would also give us their first round picks.
Cousins like Monroe is durable. This wouldn't be like trading for Mcdyess or signing Amare
Here's the thing with this pick: it's not likely going to help the Knicks immediately. If they get a superstar, we won't know that until 3-4 years down the road when Melo's tenure is basically over.
I can't support the straight-up trade of the pick for cousins because of the 2-for-1 scenario that everyone has mentioned, but if Sac was going to take back Calderon and Hardaway Junior with it, then I'd make the move because I'd have 2 star-level players on the books and a maximum salary slot for another.

Ill trade that pick in a heartbeat...I have seen scenarios where guys would trade the pick for Kaminsky..A projected bench player by NBA scouts...Cousins is the best center on the planet..Melo and Cousin instantly makes the Knicks contenders..Two guys that perfectly fit the triangle...Both can play inside out and pass the ball...It's a no brainer...Now just add a coach..

My take on the NBA is that the draft is a bit overrated, especially given long it takes for stars to develop and how few and far between they come now. I'm not trading first-round picks for Goran Dragic level-players, but a player at the level of Cousins without strapping the cap is something I'd pay attention to. By moving the other guys with the pick, I'm essentially betting that Cousins is going to be a better player than anybody in this draft over the next 5 years. With Cousins at 24, I make that bet and now have 2 all-star level players in the NBA for 4 years. The right way to build a team is gather a group of all-star level talent that I think can compete, mortgage assets to fill in the holes and try to make a run. If I do that deal, I've got Melo and Cousins in the starting lineup already and then I have a max salary slot to get that third guy to play with the other 2 all-stars plus a cap jump to fill in the holes after a season.
The scenario I described is essentially trading the future value of the whatever the pick is for a pretty good chance to be competitive for the next 4 years.
Straight up, it doesn't do enough though.

He is a lot better defender than KLove so I'll run with that...By the way, I was a KLove fan and wanted him here until this year..He has had zero impact on Cleveland..The team around Cousins wasn't as good as KLove's teams..KG teams used to suck too until he got pieces around him..

Cousins makes 14.7 mil next year before the cap explodes..Calderon makes 7...Realistically SAC will never do it..

So how exactly do you build a team as if Melo isn't here when he actually is? In your scenario Melo shouldnt be playing until the rookie can hold his own. I've always been of the belief that drafted players are just nostalgic pieces to fans, they hold on to them as if they are gold even when they are mediocre or even worse...garbage. Out of all the drafted players we've had since Ewing only Ewing and David Lee have been all-stars....iirc. Thats pretty damn poor. There's no guarantee our next drafted player will be an all-star, but guess who already is? The topic of the thread, a pretty damn good player, which most drafted players will NEVER reach. A player like Cousins actually might make me interested in watching the triangle offense because it fits him like a glove.
But truth be known, Sacto aint stupid enough to trade a sure thing for a hope, I wish they were though.
