Isn't that what Chris Paul is for? He is the leader/floor general who was being guarded by Jason freakin Terry. Blake was being guarded by Howard in the 4th.

How many lay ups did Blake miss down the stretch..Think he miss like three point blank lay ups..All game he made it look easy...I think it easier to corral Paul than it is to corral Blake..Blake should be able to get a higher percentage shot off..

He did but when he is guarded by Howard and unable to lob to Jordan it is hard for him. Howard gives him problems with his size. I just though Paul had the easier match up. Nobody on Houston can really guard Paul and when you have Terry on you you have to take advantage.

Maybe they deserve a 50/50 split of the blame

Paul was tight too..But u could be right..I tend to see Paul defer so much...Im thinking that role is there for Blake if he wants it..
holfresh @ 5/15/2015 2:24 AM
It's also puzzling watching Chicago have these sort of droughts with Rose and Butler on the floor..I know Butler isn't a give me the ball guy, but something have to give..That's two max guys on a team that's a second round and out team going into next year..
smackeddog @ 5/15/2015 3:21 AM
Well, that Clips 4th Q collapse was one for the ages!
NumberTwoPencil @ 5/15/2015 5:20 AM
Ugly collapse but Houston is such a weird team that Houston winning is a bigger surprise than the Clippers rolling over. Leave Harden out and take over? McHale is the right weirdo coach for such an odd team. It's hard to imagine getting much more out of these guys, no? Next game? Harden fifty points, Howard 20 boards and Hello, Dubs!
holfresh @ 5/15/2015 12:45 PM
Yellowboy said this already but I miss having the TNT guys point of view on what they saw last night.....What we saw was sort of epic and potentially franchise changing games and events..Chicago needs major tweaking to get to the next level and some of their major pieces are in decline...Houston survived but has a big problem still..That game was more about the Clippers than it was about Houston's improbable win...The Clippers problems are mental, should be a great game 7..
holfresh @ 5/15/2015 1:30 PM
This is why the NBA playoffs are great..No other sport can you measure the mental fortitude of players and of a team as you can, in the NBA...You now have questions about Chris Paul and Blake Griffin..They blinked last night..They were scared last night..They were tentative last night..They were shook last night..You will never know a player's true character until you see them in the moment..We all thought of Chris Paul as a leader and he may well be a great leader..Last night he folded..He could make a great comeback in the next game or the games after that..But last night he needed to be led...Blake was great, I mean great all game, until the game was on the line...He shied away from the moment..Maybe he too, comes back as well..But they both cowered in the moment..This was about the Clippers more than it was about Houston...Clippers needs some dawgs in the trenches..Right now they have boy scouts...

Absolutely! I earned a lot of respect for him (and their organization)

who cares who you are, metrics say ride the hot hand and don't forced the cold one.

If a guy is 5-20, there is no reason to see it turn into 5-30.

I wish we had the balls to sit our star when he was bricking uncontrollably.

yeah ... maybe we could yank our guy when he is chucking but no ... lets compliment him and post dumb articles of how great he played ....hahah

btw, your favorite coach should be ashamed with the way his team played down the stretch. That was downright embarrassing.

Did you edit out your metrics say ride the hot hand? Pretty sure you don't need metrics to figure that out.

it takes a modern approach to sit your star. Old school guys would not do that (I meant metric guys).

there is nothing worse than see a guy trying to volume shoot his way back into the game.

how many coaches would sit their star in a big spot like that? almost none! And I really gained Mchale's respect.

Morey does a lot of interesting things and is willing to be different. You are a D-league guys, look what he is doing. Will it work? Maybe ... but I love that he is trying and he is doing it in a very non traditional way.

I think old school guys would be much quicker to do that. A guy like Sloan, Pop, PJax, etc., are guys that I see as old school. Maybe Thibs because of his approach. I don't know where McHale fits on that but it seems like a pretty simple switch that a moderately competent coach could figure out.

don't think so.

maybe Pop because he can do whatever the hell he wants.

It was also interesting to see how well Cleveland did without Kyrie.

And Houston is gonna need Harden in a big way to go further ... they can't rely on Josh Smith and Corey Brewer to do this again.

Harden is only 25 and Mchale taught him a good lesson and also earned the respect of the rest of the team

Do you think that Woodson would have the guts to pull Melo out if he keeps shooting and bricking? NO WAY! He did not even have the stones to pull JR when he was having crack moments.

mreinman @ 5/15/2015 6:12 PM
and btw crush ...

just think about how nice it would have been if Riley had the stones to pull Starks

how many shots does a guy need to miss before you realize that he is killing the team?

I just don't see riding the hot hand as new school or something you need metrics to tell you. In regards to Starks, I think that was a case of knowing your player and his capabilities. John certainly wasn't playing because Riley was afraid to take him out. I am not aware of Riley ever being afraid to stand up to a player and do what was best for the team. The only guy that I know of that defied Riley was Shaq and he was traded a couple of days later.

Sometimes coaches don't have other options. Tyson was paid like one but he played worse or didnt play every spring. Amare was wrenching his back, breaking fire extinguishers or recovering from 3-4 knee surgeries in a 12 month span. Who was going to step up for the Knicks?
yellowboy90 @ 5/15/2015 6:53 PM
i don't consider Mchale a new school coach at all. He might be surrounded by a new school gm but Mchale is very old school to me.

Anyway, I don't think Mchale's choice was a new or old school approach he just made a gut decision that any kind of coach could make and probably has made but it didn't workout like it did for Houston

i will say doing it in the playoffs is key and is what separated mchale from a lot of coaches

I wish I had seen the game. I go to work early and only caught the beginning of the first quarter. Blake looked like he was going to dominate.
