Mets and Knicks: two teams had seasons where management just threw away an entire season in order to re-tool for next season.
Last year the Mets were horrid. They were dumping players, losing games, telling fans next year will be better. Sound familiar, Knick fans? Well, as a Met fan I believed in what they were doing. I knew the farm system was strong, I knew our pitching staff would be far better this season, I knew Matt Harvey was coming back...it was easy to buy into the corporate bullcrap that next year would be better. And guess what? Mets are in first place right now, playing better baseball than any team in the league. A top team. The rebuild, re-tooling was for real.
Do you think the Knicks will pull that off? No, f.cking way! Where is the Knick's Matt Harvey for next year? Melo? Are you positive he'll return and be a top three player in the league? Where is the Knick's farm system? Oh, yeah, in Westchester where they won just ten f..king games all season!
Odd to say, but the Mets actually pulled off something great. From a complete throw away rebuild season to first place! How come I know right now that the Knicks next year won't even make the playoffs?

it just produced Galloway? Why do you care about the record? Westchester is about player development.

It's too early too say that the Mets are making the playoffs. And what about the prior years when the Mets were putting out garbage and not spending a penny? Not too mention the criminal activities that indirectly led to the Mets penny pinching? Say what you want about Dolan, but he's never been afraid to spend. I hope the Mets do well, but let's take it a little easy there.

We may also see Thanasis come in a better player after a year developing.
The idea that we can say the Knicks won't make the playoffs next year seems like a major presumption. We haven't seen who we'll draft nor who we'll add in Free Agency. That's a lot of factors still to be determined.
