one would think... but we have seen how our poor guard play translates into iso play from the frontcourt among other things. What I covet about DR is he's a true facilitator. He plays the right way. He is quite happy dropping jumper after jumper on you like he's shooting in the gym. When you start swarming and closing he goes by you. Double him he will find the open man. He moves the ball quickly. He's a guy bigs will love playing with because he will create easy opportunities for them.
Moonangie @ 4/20/2015 2:21 PM
If we whiff on Towns and OK4, this is my guy. Might even take him at #2 instead of Ok4.

2 of these guys and we set ! Love/Aldridge/Monroe

If he plays 1 guard and we have a 6-6 6-8 athletic 2G other teams will be forced to guard Russell with their PG. That will give his team quite an advantage mismatch wise--He'll be able to use his passing ability over the top--he'll be able to get his shot off anywhere and he'll be able to guard off defenders with his body to the hoop.

and I love the idea of signing Carrol to play SG. Then you are looking at a really big team. Lots of options.

I think in today's NBA, its better to have really skilled wings that can impact the game, and then bigs that can just do enough - screens, rebound, defense- to not cost you a game.

6'5" is not good enough?????

Depends on the player. Evan Turner is 6'5" and always gets snuffed in the paint. Dwayne Wade is shorter but finishes at a higher level. Russel isn't the most explosive guy and you have to wonder how he'll operate in the paint.

Russell is a much better shooter than Turner or Wade so he can operate outside the lane and still be deadly. When he does get into the paint, he is an excellent passer and can see a play develop before it happens. Looking at where the game is and where its going, I would be shocked if this dude is not an allstar callibre player....I think other than Ok4, he can have the biggest immediate impact as a rookie....

Excellent response. A you g dude with the shooting and passing abilities as Russ will not have problem in the paint. You have to honor his talent; if not, he will make a fool out of you. Cp3 is not as tall, but he is plenty effective around the basket

This kid is a lot more like Billups than anyone else I have watched play in the past. He can make the big shots; very cerebral, but not flashy. I simply want to know if he can be a leader. If he can add that ability to his beautiful game, he will for sure be a superstar.
StarksEwing1 @ 4/20/2015 4:19 PM
We are gonna land the either the 3rd or 4th spot so there is a good chance we will land russell
nixluva @ 4/20/2015 4:29 PM
Russell is 3rd on my list. I just think he's legit already and at 19 there's good reason to expect him to improve. Also remember in our offense there really isn't a PG per se. You all saw how Schved was able to thrive in the offense out of the Pinch Post side of the offense which is where the 2nd guard usually plays, that is where Russell would operate and that puts him in a 2 man game with Melo, with lots of space. That would be unstoppable.
GustavBahler @ 4/20/2015 4:35 PM
An article on Russell quoted one of his teammates from AAU. Russell got on his case because he gave up on a pick and roll because he didnt believe that Russell could thread the needle. This kid has a passion for sharing the rock, looks like a prodigy in that dept. Russell will help bring out the best in his teammates. On top of that the kid can ball. I hope Phil makes the call.

He was even posting up in the video. Good head on his shoulders, Not scared of the bright lights, makes teammates better, can fill it up from all over the court. He is the type of guard that good bigs win with.

That kid is too good for NY.

Russell is a PG.
BRIGGS @ 4/20/2015 10:02 PM
One thing with Russell is that his passing is just as good as his shooting and that makes for a great player. Hes a 6-5 PG who will be able to affect games with both of those skills and he's a high quality rebounder for a guard as well. A lot to like. If he was more athletic hed be a runaway number 1 pick but I think some added size and strength with his size from the 1 will help him create separation

I think he could actually train to gain more explosion. He has extremely skinny legs. Almost no calf muscles. If he's with the right trainer they could help him get his body right. He'll probably look like a different guy by the time the combines come around.

helloharv @ 4/21/2015 9:43 AM
If we don't sign Rondo or Jackson , WHO is our starting PG on a hopefully playoff team ? I think anyone we have now is a 2nd string option.... I want Towns or OK4 but maybe this kid is the way to get our PG for the next 10 years and sign free agent bigs?

I'm taking that into account. The combines and workoutscan be overrated. Iman Shumpert was rated to high because of his performance and a guy like Shabazz Muhammed was probably rated too low because of his performance. I think DeAngelo Russell is in the same situation James Harden was in. If DeAngelo gives a solid performance, it will cement his status as a top three pick.
mreinman @ 4/21/2015 10:27 AM
I think that he will be the best player out of this draft
Knicks1969 @ 4/21/2015 10:47 AM
Let me be the first to say: whatever team passes on Russell will forever regret that decision a la Jordan and Kobe.

That kid is as good as advertised folks. His shooting is butter; passing ability is lovely; his ability to move without the ball and willingness to share with his teammates are all the reason why this dude will be a megastar.

As for all the other greats, he will need an exceptional coaching staff to groom him and capable teammates to help him achieve his stardom
