We have to be careful in assuming that a bunch of lesser players is equal to a player who can be a franchise player. A kid like OK4 could be a franchise player and they don't grow on trees. There is no need to move a player like that IMO. You end up with pick 1, 2 or 3 in this draft, I think you keep that player and thank your lucky stars.
I dont think I've seen a trade like this, but for discussion sake it would have to depend on the picks. Top 3 pick warrants at the minimum a lotto pick in return, a later/future 1st round pick and an established player. Basically I cant see it getting done.

Philly could have 3 though that's unlikely. They have the Lakers top 5 protected pick, LA is currently picking 4th. If two teams leapfrog LA during the lottery Philly would have their pick. They also have the rights to Miami's pick, top 10 protected. Miami is currently picking 10th; if OKC, Indy, Phoenix, or Utah wins a top 3 pick Philly gets their pick as well.

Yeah that's why i've focused my attention on the best players we can realistically get. There is a very clear group of players who are capable of being productive on a high level in this Free Agent Market. Phil has said he wants 2 starters and that means to me that he's at least going after players who will deserve the role as starters next year.

Yep, B & C level players are always available every year in free agency if you are willing to over pay. The only way you can really get an 'A' player is via the draft

Not saying we should, but we have the cap space and 10 roster spots open. He brings Veteran experience and known as a good locker room guy?

Boston want to drop him so that they can be players in free agency, I think. If that's right, that's a reason not to help them out (at least if they're targeting the same players we are).

By now, you all know that I want either Towns or Russell. If those two are noon the board when it is time to select, I will be on if Phil decides to trade that pick. I think Okafor is a nice player, but his inability to play at both ends of the court is not appealing to me as a fan. It would be one thing if we were a strong defensive squad already, but given how bad our defense has been the last five years, we can't afford to invest in a one trick pony.

I would do it. Wallace is signed for one more year. I would take the cap hit next year to get another pick / young player for the future core.

They are a bit further up the food chain having made the playoffs and might want to make a run for Love.
If so, they have to deal with a team with space and time.
We could trade down and get Winslow who could be the stud be Phils alpha dog.
That I would assume gives us another pick or a quality player.
Take Bostons pick and still have room to sign Monroe.

What you'll have is a longer term rebuild but it will be done with substance. If Varajao returns healthy and Love comes back Cavs will run the east for 3 more years.

The Ping pong balls will determine the value of the pick. Who wants to move up desporate enough to get their man, and would a team want to leverage its future by winning now with Melo as a finishing piece?
Clippers might (not sure they have what we want) but i'd take Griffin. Lakers might want to starphuch it.

Nobody is here form the last 5 years but Melo. Different coach, different scheme. Phils teams were always good defeneively. I would not worry. We are not a weak defensive team, we are not even a team!!!!

I would too depending on which pick Boston's willing to give up. I'm not interested in the Clippers, Memphis or Minnesota pick. I'm not sure about the Dallas pick either. I'm definitely down for a Brooklyn pick and probably a Boston pick.
