The stuff I have read on this site about him, granted most it coming from a select and vocal few is insane. As a pro athlete you dont get these years back. People act like giving up $5mm is nothing, whoop de doo... when Melo is 65 and 30 years removed from this contract will $5mm matter then?

It also sheds light on FA. Its easy to say wait and cash in later, but often there is no later.

I was like -- "Kevin Love HATES kittens! That bastard!" Then I realized you meant Melo. So, I was ok with it.

lol yea man.. you gotta focus! Dont get me started on what he does to puppies

I kinda agree with Love - it sure looked intentional (to hurt/harm) and I can't believe Kelly Olynyk has been suspended one game- should be more like 20

It looked pretty intentional to me, too. I think the NBA should review it again.

Yup, me too- just like when West or whoever it was tore Melo's shoulder.

I don't think it was malicious.

Olynyk is a hairless spaz "Louis Scola" (say it with cool Antonio Bandaras accent!" wanna be.

Dude was holding him from getting the ball. Really not cool move. Im sure Gilbert is going nuts.

This is exactly the reason why I can't blame Melo for not waiting to become a FA when he was on Denver. There are no guarantees and you need to take max money when you can.

Look at Wes Mathews ... he is screwed!

Melo did what any of us would have done.

Its not a acl injury or anything of the like that will keep him out a full year and have teams worried if his game will be the same when he's back so this won't hurt him or having plenty of teams wanting him.

I separated my shoulder and its never been the same. I had my ACL torn totally and a partial MCL and menuscus, had my entire knee rebuild and played 10+ years of amateur hardball on it after the surgery.

Any GM who signed a player after that without seeing him play healthy again is an idiot. Most likely Love is fine, but you would be shocked. Once that shoulder pops it pops easier every time after and various problems can ensue. Trust me

the point is that it is really scary when your contract is at stake and its silly for people to expect players to not go for the money instead of waiting for FA (if a player has a choice and he is happy with the choice)

They can still win the east without him but they won't beat most of the western teams.

Did you have Dr James Andrews doing your surgery cause there's a difference? These teams have the best of the best and I'm sure he'll be fine and it won't hurt him with getting contract offers from multiple teams. Not much can shock me when it comes to sports and sports injuries cause I've seen and been around it all.

I didnt get shoulder surgery. They told me rehab etc and 10+ years later its a total disaster. The knee which I did get surgery on was fine. As for my guy vs. Andrews its a push. Most of those surgeries are not very trickey, especially ACL/MCL constructions. If we were talking microfracture or bone grafts or dicey stuff then maybe... ACL is like getting fillings at the dentist.

Anyway the point is dont dismiss an injury until you see the player healed.

Yup. As middling as his number seemed to be in comparison to his seasons in Minny the Cleveland offense is an order of magnitude or two better when he is in the lineup and simply average when he sits. I'm not sure their D is good enough to get past this fact. CLE has their hands full, for sure.

Love will get a good contract and likely still a max deal. These guys have top doctors, trainers and such and this injury isnt normally career threatening. The team who signs him will be able to acquire insurance that would cover the bulk of his salary in the event he does miss alot of time. but I doubt it comes to that.

I think because of this injury Love may wait until 2016 to hit the FA market. He has to actually opt out this summer... not sure he'd do that coming off an injury, unless he REALLY hates Cleveland.

Just a brutal unnecessary injury. Reminds me of Beverly/Westbrook.

I called it a dirty move when I saw it. I could see that Olynyck not only held his arm but I saw the jerk down on Love's arm and it was actually more forceful than it looks at 1st glance. He may not have expected to dislocate his shoulder but he was definitely trying to put stress on his arm.

It is a shame that the main player cannot play full force in playoff.

Let's recruit Mathews here at a lower market price. I bet it worth a risk.

He did jerk down on it, and as Love said, it was not a "basketball move."

You are talking 260 lb. men, both going for the ball. There was no way Love could anticipate the type of move Olynyck did on him, so he couldn't adjust his body for the force that messed up his shoulder. In that kind of situation you might see a guy throw an elbow to gain position, shove the other player away, or even tug an arm straight down, but Olynyck extended Love's arm so that all the pressure was on his shoulder when he yanked it.

Cheap move by Olynyck- surprised at what he did.

Have not followed the situation too closely in recent days- has Olynyck actually apologized in any way?

Realistically, though, they're going to have a hard time getting past the Bulls and Hawks.

Meh. Lebron would beat the Hawks on his own. Bulls always find a way to beat themselves.
