Knicks · No DONT give a MAX to DJordan (page 2)

Well if he wanted to be with a winning franchise... would he really want to be with the Knicks?
He may sign Bron's famous 1 and 1 deal so he can choose to play the 2016 or 2017 market.
If you're a free agent it makes sense, because basically in 2016 and 2017, most players will be able to pick the team they want to go to because there will be so much cap space.
If I'm the Knicks, I may wait until 2016 and try to build a super team rather than blow cap room on Greg Monroe. Heck, sign Andrea for a year rather than wasting four years on Monroe.
of course he won't give up money to come to NY!
I like the 2016 plan over blowing our wad on monroe types.
BUT, they can still sign Monroe and have max cap space in 2016, which is important.

I don't think Deandre would sign a 1 & 1 type deal as this contract he has is the first real money he's gotten. Lebron could never play a again, and still get endorsements for the next 10 years like MJ.

DA is signing the full max in LA unless LA just does not want to pay him (which would make zero sense)

Thats why i would never give him a max contract. He has such glaring weaknesses that can be exploited in a big game
please keep in mind that this post has NOTHING to do with the knicks. i was just talking in general. i just dont think hes worth the max because of his glaring weaknesses. i wrote this post after watching last nite's game. the spurs are completely exploiting DJordan
in regards to the knicks, of course he wont come here. lol. that was never my point

Agree with both of you. It's pretty much a lock he takes the $104M from LAC - unless they plan on blowing it all up if they lose to the Spurs. Though that'd be sort of surprising.
They hacked DHow and Dallas is out.
You are making hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars. Make your effiing free throws. If we're going to change the rules every time a game slows down, then just go to a seven second shot clock and let MikeyD Pringles run the league.
Or just forget the NBA and go watch your PS4 play itself.
If we could get Deandre, I would be happy. Better yet, if LA gets bounced, I would want CP3 as well. And Blake, too. Super Starphuque!

He might be best suited to the 5 year with the opt out in year 3.
That said if he took a 1&1, he would make $20.775 with the Knicks this year.
He could make $26MM next year on a new contract vs $21.639MM with a 7.5% percent bump.
If he opted out again in 2017, if the cap hits 107MM he potentially gets 32MM on a 107MM cap.
This is all assuming he is a max player the entire way regardless of the cap. I don't see him as a max player in any event. When the cap hits 107M, I think there will be a lot of salary room to negotiate with. A lot of max players will be negotiating deals less than the max. Think closer to baseball.
He caps at 20MM in my opinion anyway.
I think one way to look at it is to allocate a percentage of cap to each of your starting positions (80%) and then to the bench (20%). Many teams take 3 max (90%) and fill in the rest with the remaining 10% and cap overages from the exceptions. But the percentage game gets skewed horribly when you go from a limited pricing model at $63MM per team to one at $87Mm or even $107MM. The available salary nearly doubles. Does Lebron still get 35% of 107MM? Maybe. Does Melo? Hell no.

Just like the Spurs did with LeBron?
Spurs are in a different league altogether. The Clippers are in the Playoffs, and Deandre was a big part of that.
We are not. We have no one on our team so good that the Spurs could exploit them in the playoffs, because we're never getting there unless we upgrade our talent.
If we could land Deandre, we should celebrate because he is, poor ft% and all, a huge upgrade over any of our current players.

Yes- but I am getting scoring out of the system & having Melo back & a possible draft pick.
Add Russell to that mix and I'd like to think you're looking a 40's win team and a possible first round upset.
franco12 wrote:No... better... I mean anything can happen, but there are a few worst to first scenarios and getting Jordan and drafting Russell is one of them IMO (thats how high I am on him). Russell will get hurt defensively, but he's a tough physical rebounder, an otherworldly shooter and can handle. He's the ultimate SG for the triangle. I would move Melo back to PF, overpay a guy like Dermarr Carroll who can defend the 3,4 or even 2, and my team looks something like this:fishmike wrote:franco12 wrote:yea he's not perfect but he's a force. C D Jordan
PF Melo
SF Carroll
SG Russell
PG Galloway
Bench: Shved, THrj, Cole, Admunson, etc
You put 3 top flight defenders (two of whom can kill the 3) around Melo/Russell's scoring and Jordan protecting the rim.
Thats a pretty legit formula IMO. A very fun team to watch

Sign me up for this team.
Jordan is Tyson Chandler in my book, but not as good a FT shooter.

DA is better than Tyson in most every way, although not by a huge margin. Yea the FTs are bad, but he's bigger stronger younger and a far superior rebounder. He's more physcial. By alot. I mean there isnt much chance but he's UFA so who knows
Here's a good write-up a friend of mine did for bballbreakdown about Jordan and the notion that he's a great defender. The metrics there tell you that Jordan actually isn't a great defender.
My opinion is that DeAndre Jordan is too limited to give a max contract to. It'd be like giving Tyson a max contract. If you watch this series, the Spurs defense is letting Matt Barnes shoot open jumpers and fouling DeAndre Jordan.

sure did!!!
Whats that? HOF speach? The dude is not on the same level of Tyson or Jordan. Way higher. Rodman had a crazy motor and could dominate both ends of the floor for short bursts and take over a game.
But lets not forget the scrubs he played with too! (sarcasm) Rodman was a role player. A HOF role player. Look at who he played with and the chemistry of how it all came together. Espeically in Detroit. Lambier could hit an outside shot!!!
