Good article by Berman
Said exactly what I suspected. Hurt himself middle of year and could not practice the rest of the year. Lost conditioning and mobility. We've seen just a glimpse of what he can do. He's lost 12 pounds since end of year and has trained hard. What's going to happen is people will see real quick what he is in sl. I think he ends up a much better defended than people think with his power and length
I agree. I posted this quote in the draft thread.
The knock on Okafor late in the season was his conditioning. Lewis agreed, saying he believes an ankle injury suffered in February against North Carolina set Okafor back.
“I think he lost his conditioning at end of season because he couldn’t practice,’’ Lewis said. “His body type, he needs to practice and work hard constantly.’’
I couldn't remember if it was you or Nix that said that his conditioning and play suffered because of his injury. Too bad some that judge him only saw him in the tourney.

You know what a well? At 6-10·5/260 with a 7-6 wingspan he should play nba 5. He might not be fast enough to guard quick 4 s but think is there any current man 5 s that hav a chance in he'll to guard bin 1-1? He's going to be a beast from the 5 Teams need to take a look at him now healthy in great shape as a 5 man.
I had a feeling OK4 wasn't 100%. It'll be very interesting to see him healthier.
Ok. Well good. That explains the early fatigue and not hustling on defense all the time

How do you know that's his real size? His numbers could be judged just like so many others who came up below their listed measurements at the combine.

I think it just became popular to trash him as the season went on (that old, 'build them up then knock them down' thing)- one thing that bugs me is that everyone says the sky is the limit for Towns, but they then also assume that OK4 won't improve at all- AT ALL! It's ridiculous.
we're lucky (overdue) that we're in line to be able to add a talent like Okafor.
I hope we land the #1 pick, but then we might be better off dropping where we may end up with the better talent.

He didn't hustle on defense before the injury either. He doesn't have Towns motor. Ok4 is my clear cut #2 though. Follows by Mudiay, Winslow & Russell. I'm glad he's taking conditioning seriously
Okafor wasnt known for playing defense BEFORE the injury, and I find it hard to believe he didnt practice. He may have been limited, but he wasnt crippled.

He was measured for USA basketball at 272 so 12 odd less would give u 260

I'm not talking about just his weight, that could have been near 300lbs by the end of the year for all I know, but his height and wingspan could be off too.

Go to draftexpress he's been measured 4 years in a row he's 6 95 in bare feet with a 7-6 reach and. Consistent 272
OK4 looks to be about 6-10 at the least IMO. It doesn't matter cuz he's got the right combo of girth and length, plus huge hands. He can hold his post position and pass well. In terms of his offense we could run the Triangle thru him at a high level. We'd be fortunate to get him or Towns, but with OK4 we could immediately improve on offense.
I see ok4 scoring 18-20 points as a starting 5 right away as in year 1. My guess is 18.7 points 8.5 rebounds 2.8 assists 1.6 blocks 58% rookie of year
he was hurt? I hate this excuse!
Its a long season, everybody plays hurt.
If you can play then you are not really hurt.
Lets not forget that him, like Towns will improve on their weaknesses.
So if he was not playing great defense due to injury, lets not assume it will last his whole career. Dude is 19.

So, John Wall hand isn't really broken and Irvin is not really hobbled?

I will add that his defensive problems were a concern all year. Like all draftees he will have work to do to improve.

Agreed. Not sure why people feel Ok4 has already reached his ceiling. For some reason, the Towns supporters feel a need to trash Ok4. I would be happy with both. But for my money, Ok4 is the bettet prospect.
There is no way I take Towns over Okafor. That would be a huge mistake on any team that passes on Okafor. I'm not saying Towns is going to be a bad player he is going to be good too. But the game Okafor plays is game changing constant doubles are required. In this new age of basketball where everyone is basically a perimeter player and stands out at the three point land. Okafor opens up the entire game for the perimeter players.
I have been saying that his injury slowed Okafor down a lot. I know he is much batter defensive player than what most are judging him by. If you watched him play before the ankle injury you would know. If you watched him based on tournament play you would have seen glimpses of his true potential. Every team plays a different style Towns had the benefit of playing with multiple 7 footers and he can go all out on defense. But he picked up fouls at a very high rate. If he was the only center I guarantee you that his defense would not have been as good he definitely play less aggressive.
If you sit back and ask yourself would I rather have Mark Gasol at 30 at center or 19 year old Okafor? I'd take jahill. I like the fact that he attacked his problem so hard right after the season--shows he wants to be great. For me there is a thin line between ok4 and Towns and I don't think I would trade either pick 1 or 2 under any circumstance
