But bottom line is that Love is a California guy. He wants to win, but he wants to be happy and the centerpiece of the team, too.
I think he'll go to LA and they'll build around him. They have the #2 pick in the draft and just as much cap room as the Knicks. When Kobe comes off the cap next year, they'll have another $40M in cap room when the cap goes up.
Love, Mudiay, Randle, Clarkson, maybe Hill, $40M in cap space? The Lakers will be fine.

though I don't think there's a snow ball's chance in hell Dolan trades Melo this off-season. And, yes, I believe it'd be Dolan's decision. Maybe if the rebuild goes terribly, Melo asks for a trade and the Knicks try to accomodate him next summer. But absolutely not this summer. Melo's bought in for at least another season and Dolan will be loathe to lose him, since he views Melo as his crowning achievement as Knicks owner (and I'm not kidding about that).

Rondo for $10M sounds about right...
They'd have aging Kobe, Rondo, Love, Randle, maybe Towns or Mudiay this year...
Then next season Kobe retires and they'd have his $25M slot plus the $15-20M the cap is expect to rise. They'd have around $40M in cap room and they're the Lakers.

Thats why you offer melo for their number 2 pick and either Randle (flip for another pick) or their other first round pick this year. Take back Kobe, they can sign Rondo, and everyone's a winner
Millsap at 12 million makes sense but maxing him out would be a mistake. Age factor has to come into play. If you are going to max out a player then Kevin Love is the player.
Every free agent wants the max....I would too.
That's why you sit back and wait until the real bargain begins. Let the dumb organizations max out these guys, then pick up whats left over. I don't think any FA is worth a max.....But most of them will get it.
